KU is hit or miss for me. I don't keep an active subscription, but if there's a book I want to read that's on it I'll look to see if there's anything else I'd like, and if there is I'll subscribe for a month and immediately cancel. If I don't cancel it immediately I'll stay subscribed for months without reading any books, wasting my money. I do the same for scribd.

Sometimes I think about getting KU, but I have so many free Kindle books already and I have access to libraries' e-catalogs so it's probably not worth it for me.
Natasha wrote: "Sometimes I think about getting KU, but I have so many free Kindle books already and I have access to libraries' e-catalogs so it's probably not worth it for me."Agreed! I constantly have my Kindle on airplane mode so my loans don't expire.
I also don't read quite as much as I used to. There was one year I read a little over 100 books but I felt like it was a bit of a grind for me and I definitely had to forego doing other activities I enjoy like crafting, hiking, or just hanging out with my friends/SO.
That’s what I do, with KU and Audible escape for a month or two here and there. I just paused both of them and going to try to resist the urge to renew them. I have access to 7 library digital catalogs, the whole state of MA for print and discs, several hundred print books and a gazillion kindle freebies. I really don’t need the subscription services too.
If anyone likes mysteries, Joy Ellis' books are on KU and they are great. Good mysteries in a nice setting and with great sets of characters. They are fairly quick reads too.
I really should get better at pausing my subscription when I'm not using it. Would probably end up restarting it for team challenges every so often
Good morningDropping in to say hi.....been a busy week for me cant wait to start reading tomorrow...keep eyeing a couple books just want to start reading

Thanks for discussion on KU ...i forgot my trial 3 months had passed and i was paying full price....i cancelled it because i have Prime reading but not sure theres as extensive selection of books...
You aren't committed to anything on the spreadsheet, but please take them off if you decide not to read them so we've got some idea which letters need things finding for!
Riding in on my motorcycle to give you some recommendations from me!:Romance and young adult:

There's a favorite song of mine by Josh Abbott Band and Pat Green called "My Texas" that talks about many of the hidden gems that my state has. :)
If this question has already been asked, I apologize...Can two team members read the same book and have it count for the challenge? I ask because I see someone is planning to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and that's one on my list as well.
Thanks!
Yes! As many of us as want to read something can read it. Haven't yet been on a team where everyone has read 1 book but sure it'll happen eventually!
That's me that wants to read that. Can we get bonus points if we do a buddy read? I need to read that very early in the challenge because I waited forever for it and it's due back on the 22nd. I'd have to wait in line again.

The audio versions are great. I love Lorelei King as a narrator. She did this series and Stephanie Plum and the Mercy Thompson books.
24 hours until we start! I hope everyone has a good night's sleep and is ready for the fun to begin!
Any last minute questions before we start I'll answer tomorrow, but please keep asking as we go.

No format for completion posts. Personally I find it annoying doing a completion post and updating the SS so I'm happy for people to just put in a link to the book and the date read on the SS (and add it to your shelf of course!)
If you are going to do completion posts, I'd like title, author, p no, date finished, letters it works for (and character etc that makes it fit), tags and task you are using it for

Starting to read posts similar, if you want to tell us that's great, if not don't worry.
If there's something you are reading for a particular letter, please do tell us so that we can plan that. I'd also love to hear if you really enjoy a book

I can do a Q book later, if needed, I have some short Q's like Quarantined, The Ruins Of Mars, or Any Way You Bury It.
Thanks Sophie....good to know about posts.....off to work ......starts at 3pm my time.....book loaed and ready to ready to read....have a great day....
Tonya wrote: "Cassandra - as a Texas native, I would LOVE!!! to know what you went to see."Tonya, we started in Austin (we had really good friends that moved down there 2 years ago). In Austin we saw the bats, did a duck tour on the lake. Ate at a few different places and went to the Austin Zoo. Then we trekked over to Houston and Galveston and went to NASA and went to a dolphin tour. We tried the beach, but it was super windy that day. After that, we headed to San Antonio to do the river walk and the alamo. It was a lot of miles, but we so want to go back to see more!
Thanks Camilla! Once we get going and know which letters we're short of, we'll give updates a couple of times a week.
I've just finished off the books I'm going to be able to before this evening. War and Peace is going to have to be paused again. I'll probably finish The Priory of the Orange Tree slowly and I only ever got a chapter into the other on my reading shelf so will restart it.

Cassie that sounds like a great trip! So many different places to see and go. I keep having to remind myself that Texas is about 3 times the size of the UK!
Here are some of my favorites!I love Blake Pierce as an author, and there are quite a few different series that he has for mystery/thriller.
I have also loved the following!
Exciting that we can soon start. First of my planned books is going to be Suicide Forest as it works for a tag. Still need to finish my current book, but it's not keeping my attention as much as I expected which is disappointing.

I read The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes when it was released last month - I'll be interested to hear what you think of it
I'm going to get started with Under Lying. Been on my tbr for a while. Annoyingly it has spooky as a tag, but no-one has gone for creepy.
@Sophie @Victoria, is it possible for you guys to use an image/banner that alerts us to any important posts or info we need to know? I've just logged in to check on starting time and there are a lot of new messages since Tuesday. It's overwhelming to read through all of this and it would be helpful if there was a picture or something alerting us to pertinent info. It would be much appreciated. If not, I understand but know that I can't keep up with all the messages.
I will be starting The Jetsetter first for BOM....@Vicki then I will start TBOS&S...will def let you know...its been years since I read the trilogy
Hello hello from Team Around the World in Eighty Days! Please feel free to come over to our thread and see our book recommendations! Happy reading everyone!
Nicole, I'll do my best but I do most things on my phone which makes things a bit tricky!
I'll try to put IMPORTANT or similar in a line at the top as a minimum (or go through once Joe is in bed and I can try on my laptop!)

Oh and we're trying to make sure everything important/useful ends up in the first few posts too as a reference point for everyone
I finished my last book I was reading last night. My first book is going to be I Might Regret This: Essays, Drawings, Vulnerabilities, and Other Stuff for letter I. It's an audiobook. I should finish it today as it's like 6 hours and with my ADD I listen to things at 1.5 speed. (Why do they read audio books so painstakingly slow?)
I speed up audio books too but usually only to 1.25. I'll do 1.5 if I'm running out of time on a borrow. My husband and daughter say it sounds funny but I don't really think it does.
I usually do 1.5. Then again, in my car I still listen to CDs, which then seems unbearably slow and can't speed up.
The start is at midnight here, so will probably not stay awake long enough to start this night, will start in the morning. Apparently have to watch Netflix and read some magazines this evening then.

My husband thinks it sounds funny too but my brain wanders off when it's read at normal speed. To me it sounds like it has been slowed waaay down at normal speed.
We're staying in tonight so I plan to read. It starts early evening for me so that works out good. We're going to be busy tomorrow but I'll probably be able to read here and there. I was hoping Storm Front would come up because hubby has read those and loved them and we'll be in the car about 3 hours tomorrow to go to a bbq. But alas, it's still on wait list.
I spoke too soon. Just noticed an email came yesterday saying I can borrow it.
I've listened to books on 1.5x when it's something I'm trying to get read for a challenge but I'm not too interested in and in the beginning it sounds super strange. But after a couple of minutes I think our brains adjust. Usually I just keep it on 1.1x - 1.2x now. I agree that the normal speed feels like they're dragging out every letter.
