Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments Finished my first book. Love Lettering was so good I stayed up until 2AM to finish it. I highly recommend it if you're a romance reader.

And now to finally sleep.

Jhmingos | 704 comments Finished a second book today and participated in the discussion for BOM. So that should be some extra points.

Can someone let me know how DQ works? Do you have to volunteer early and get selected? Do the mods decide on the section you'll be covering or can you give a preference?

message 153: by Lexi (last edited Jun 14, 2020 05:18PM) (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments You are doing great. You have to answer three sets of discussion questions to get the points. I will be starting the book soon too.

To write DQs, one person per a team volunteers. Right now, Judith has volunteered for June and July BOMs, but if there is a July book where you want to write them, you can volunteer and I am sure Judith would not mind being backup. The selection is by random generator so some teams will get it more than others but that is random for you. You can give a preference on which day but others may also give the same preference so flexibility helps. Does that answer your questions?

Judith (brownie72011) | 7434 comments Mod
Yep, I don’t mind at all. As long as you volunteer by the cutoff date (about a week from the BOM start) if I get selected, you could write the questions in my stead.

But if you aren’t on the volunteer list, you can’t write DQs in my place. So even if you see my name, or someone else from the team, don’t let that stop you from tossing your hat into the ring.

Also, for fairness, the mods don’t let a team have than one DQ day unless there isn’t enough volunteers. Which never happens because it’s a lot of points.

message 155: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments Judith is right. I meant over the three months and not per a book.

Great thanks for clarifying. I don't think I want to do DQ for Jul. I'll just look into participating, but I was curious for August.

The nominations for August BOMs are currently open until 6/27. So if there is a book you'd like to read and discuss please nominate it :)

FYI - August is going to be a themed month, so mods are asking nominations be for books by minority authors. Details about the BOM nomination requirements are in the top posts of the below threads

I finished A Gentleman in Moscow this morning. It is a beautifully written book. And is about a period in Russia I know little about besides a cursory covering of it in high school World History class.

It is a slow going read so some might find it boring, but I really enjoyed reading it.

Kristel | 287 comments I started Call Down the Hawk, but this version has no pages. Is anybody here a GR librarian and can add the page number to the ebook version? Here is a link to the book on kobo website with a page number (431 pages): https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/call...

Thanks in advance!

message 166: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments For ebooks, the page count comes from the publisher which has 480, so I've added that.

480 is better for this challenge than 431 so I'm definitely not going to complain😀- Thanks!

Hello April and welcome to the team!!

I see you've found your way to the tracking spreadsheet already, which is great.

Please let Lexi or I know if you have any questions.

And if you have a book recommendations you'd like to share I can add them to the team list.

message 173: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments April, Welcome and I'm sorry but you cannot use The Gilded Wolves as you have a start date marked as May 28. All books must be started after the challenge starts. Any book you started since June 12th is good.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12853 comments Hello there Hitchhikers!

Having just finished The Art of Fielding (a book I can heartily recommend!), I am left in the mood for more sports-themed books, so have come to see if any of you have any recommendations in the genre.
Just to be clear, I'm not looking for a trashy romance that happens to have a sports backdrop (you know the kind I mean...), but the kind that has a sport at its heart. (any sport, I'm open to learning about new ones! lol)

Thanks in advance!

Sammy - Team HP

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 441 comments Once weve completed the 5 spell outs do we just start preparing for the next round or have I missed a step?

message 178: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments Once we completed the five, I will add a sixth and seventh as needed. I started us with five as we won't get points for partial words so these need to be full, but it looks like I should add the 6th later today.

Gem ~Zero Shelf Control~ wrote: "Once weve completed the 5 spell outs do we just start preparing for the next round or have I missed a step?"

We can do more than 5 spellings. But we can only have 1 incomplete spelling, so Lexi only put up 5 spellings for claiming letters to avoid getting to far ahead of ourselves.

If people keep clipping along with books like they have been, we will likely need to make more available. If/when that happens one of us will let the team know more are open.

But if you are looking for a home right now for a specific book, I can likely shift some things around if a letter it works for isn't currently available.

Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) | 707 comments I just finished my first book - The Upside of Unrequited. It wasn't the book I originally put on the planning sheet so I might have to switch things up a little bit when I put in the tracker. Sounds like we're doing fine though!

I'm on the fence with the second one too. I usually do not continue a series that I gave only 3 stars to the first one.

It does pick up towards the end as she starts figuring things out for real. If I read this book today, I'm not sure I would of rated it the same as I did.

Though that's partly due to the slew of books that followed a very similar format and used almost the same plot devices published after this one was so successful.

That book is so polarizing haha. I wasn't a fan but I think it's because I read a lot of mystery/thrillers. I know a couple of friends who enjoyed it.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments Because I'm an enabler of others buying books, Amazon has a sale on a lot of titles where you buy 3 and the cheapest one is free. (The sale includes more than books, but hey books are what the common interest is here.) The deal stacks too. For example, I just bought 9 books and 3 of them were free. And it includes a lot of newer books too as I got 3 2019 releases and 6 2020 releases.

Here is the link if anyone is interested. I definitely recommend playing with the genre filters on the left side as you'll be able to see more books that way since it's limited to 20 pages of items even though there's more than that many items.
