Reminds me of Katherine Kerr's Deverry novels, in particular the first one Daggerspell.However, in these the MC can not die and is constantly trying to right his previous mistakes as 2 other characters reincarnate time after time.

The plot of the book is that a man has done a wrong in life( he killed his brother or he didnt save him, i dont remerber) and is now forced to reincarnate many times, until he remedies. it is initially set in the Middle Ages, the story begins with an old herb seller who sees a comote who indicates the place where the person was reincarnated. The stories of the person who reincarnates are told not in chronological order. I read this book 15 years ago.
