The Truth Of Blades
By Sushie
I'm fine with this getting posted on our blog
Kana blinked.
Her eyes strained against the bright light. A deep blue sky shone above her, cloud free and beautiful...
But cold.
So, so cold.
Kana tried to speak but her mind whirred and emotions twisted. Suddenly she was crying in the soft, green grass. "Please..." She whimpered, but she couldn't finish.
"Oh sweet." A voice cooed. She couldn't look, but she knew. The power in that voice, the femininity, gave her away. "Don't cry." The voice continued. It was circling Kana. "You're in the presence of power.
This, Kana knew was true. Power that was supposed to be good. Kana stopped crying and began to shiver.
"A majesty of wonder and beauty. Emotions have no power over me... But they do on the Weaklings."
Kana screamed in pain.
"Oh! How precious. A soft one!"
Kana shook her head, digging her fingernails into the moist soil. Tears stained her face and Kana screamed again.
"You came all this way yo the peak of Larinayha for... Let's see... A unicorn hair. As if we are just small dolls that you can pluck whenever you need."
Kana felt empty.
"Queen Yuruna placed a new rule on her kingdom. No unicorn is to give up a hair. We won't be controlled by the Weaklings!"
"THIS IS IMPORTANT!" Kana screamed with a sudden burst of rage.
"It is? You know, that's what they always say: 'My daughter's dying! My friend is dying! My world is dying!'" She mimicked.
"WE are dying! Did you ever think of that? With every hair you Weaklings pluck, our kingdom grows an ounce weaker. Death is at the doorstep and you will soon not have anyone to go to for your problems!"
"That's right! You are dying. But there's no way to stop that." Kana found courage in the unicorn's words, "But, with your help, we can stop some deaths."
Unicorns from all directions approached. Hers peach, weak as it was, had summoned them. "Just one hair can change the world."
"And we will give you that hair." An even more powerful voice spoke.
"Y-you will?" Kana asked, stunned.
"Yes." The speaker approached. A looming unicorn with the tallest of horns and proudest of faces.
"Queen Yuruna." Kana breathed in awe.
The queen smiled "You've done your research." Yuruna's horn shimmered and plucke a hair from her head. She placed the hair in the grass, slowly entwining it with a delicate, green blade. "Taste." The queen ordered.
Kana did.
A pain ripped through her spine. "What's happening?" She screamed.
The queen laughed. "You really thought it'd work?" She bent low enough to touch Kana's cheek. "If we die," She spat, "You die with us."
Kana tried to move but her body was to weak. Her vision blurred as she watched the queen walk away. Kana was so close. She could have done it. She could have saved everyone. Tears pooled in her eyes. No. She was so close.
NO!
Kana lunged for the queen, her hand grasped a handful of hairs and Kana ripped them away with a forceful tug.
Yuruna screeched and wailed and Kana limped away. The sound of hooves charged after her. Kana's legs gave out under her and she fell to the ground, rolling limply down the hill.
Hooves were coming from every direction now.
I lost.
Then Kana's body was swept of the grass and she was riding away. The hairs were plucked from her fingers and Kana slept.

Our genre will be high fantasy and I think it'd be fin if you guys could post settings below?
How this would work when we write our stories is we'd write a short story in a high fantasy genre (magic, Wizards, dragons, the like), and we'd put all your setting suggestions that would be posted below and vote on which we wanted the most. So our short stories would be a high fantasy in whichever setting won.
I thought this would be a fun experiment, let me know in the after affect if it worked and what you'd change!
I'll give you until June second at 12:00 pm mountain time to post!
