Were the khoklakovs the "two lady's" that Alexei lived with before coming to town?

I am reading the book currently and I'm unsure whether the khoklakovs are the ladies that the book mentions Alexei once lived with (the ones where it says they were sorry for him to go, and offered him money) or not. I could Google this but it usually brings up spoilers and I'm early on into the book.
