Knight Of | 35 comments I want to go back to reading the Heroes of Olympus and Warriors but the last book I read from those series was years ago when I was unable to get the next books in those series.

Kimberly (kimskabab) For me, the answer will be of course you can! I just finished reading the third book of the "Crazy Rich Asians" trilogy even though I finished reading the second book more than 2 years ago. And the thing is, you can always read the series again from the beginning if you want to refresh your memory. It's honestly such a great feeling knowing you have completed a whole book series.

Destiny Rene (destinyrene) | 13 comments Yes! You very well can! I there was i time I just completely dropped the Shadowhunter books after Clockwork Princess. I stopped reading them for two or three years, I didn’t start reading them till Queen of Air and Darkness rolled around. I complete agree, when you finish a series it’s such a good feeling. Try again and see if you like it.

Rachel Adiyah | 24 comments There are plenty of trilogies I've dropped and picked up again even years later. If you want to continue with this series then do so, though you might want to give the first books a quick read-through.

message 5: by Minchu (new)

Minchu yaa definitely ,as long as you think you'll like the book.

message 6: by Sue (new)

Sue | 9 comments I hope so. I haven't given up on George R.R. Martin's Songs of Ice and Fire series yet.

message 7: by Louie (new)

Louie I agree that you can. I'm so happy that websites like Book Series Recaps exist to help with this.

message 8: by Brandi (new)

Brandi (bookswithaboxer) I would probably have to re-read the other books in the series if we're being honest. I would have forgot some things from the books before.

message 9: by Sarah Nichole (new)

Sarah Nichole (sarahnichole715) I honestly do this all the time! I’m not one to read a series straight through so some of them tend to get pushed back for a while, even years. I agree with the post above...book recap sites like Recaptains are a lifesaver!! Spend 5 minutes reading a detailed recap and it’s like you never missed a thing, just pick right up where you left off.

message 10: by αλήθεια (new)

αλήθεια I hate rereading because I just end up skimming and missing important stuff - plus, there are never good recaps that include spoilers, too. So no, I wouldn't revisit a series - I always wait until all the books are out to read them.

Devour Pages | 2 comments I have definitely done this before. Especially with some of the longer series. You might not get some of the references, but most of the main points you don't understand/remember you can usually do a quick google search and find a quick answer. Only problem is sometimes you run into spoilers.

I definitely think so! I read The City of Bones in 2012 and I didn't finish the series until August of 2020. I had a three year gap between books 2 and 3, and other long gaps after books 4 and 5. I still enjoyed myself, even though I had the gaps in the first place because of some..... questionable plot choices. I'd simply recommend looking over your past reviews or other people's recaps incase you've forgotten anything before continuing.

Personally, I absolutely adored the Heroes of Olympus series and would definitely recommend diving back in!

message 13: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Liiv (victorialiiv) | 28 comments I usually reread the first books if I plan on getting back into series. :)

message 14: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (teabagsandbooks) Definitely! I did this with Cassandra Clares books and with the Lorien Legacies series. Especially if you’re busy and miss when the books come out. I usually just start back at one for a refresher.

message 15: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1 comments I think it's good to reread somtimes. I've been rereading the Cassandra Clare books and Harry Potter at the moment. Forst of all I thought it may be a bit repetitive but I found that I noticed details and parts of the storylines that I had forgotten or not noticed before as I read them a few years ago. I've also found it's been really good with the shadowhunters books because i've been able to get a different perspective by reading The Infernal Devices first this time which isn't normally recommended for first time readers of the series because of spoilers for the Mortal Instruments series. It's also a good refresher as I'm still keeping up with the series as they come out.

message 16: by Kaylyn (new)

Kaylyn (kerskins) | 4 comments I definitely would either try re-reading the series (unless it was 3+ books deep) or I would skim/look up a synopsis for the last couple of books to get back into the world and make sure I remembered important details!

message 17: by Emily (new)

Emily Clarkson (lostinpilesofbooks) Yes. I've done it before. I had read a book but I didn't have a way to get the next book so I just waited but a year later I got the second book so since I wanted to refresh my memory of the first book, I reread the first book and then continue with the series. I only reread books if I want to read the second book(as I said above) or if I really really like the series and can't get enough of it without rereading it again.

message 18: by B (new)

B | 255 comments This is a great question.
I’d say it depends on how fresh the plot is in my mind, if I hardly remember anything then I might reread it. If I still remember a lot then I’ll mostly skim read the book it look up spoiler filled reviews/summaries. I might reread the book if I was very invested in it or want to pick up on easter eggs!

message 19: by Megan (new)

Megan Chamberlain I finished the Inheritance Cycle last year after taking a HUGE break from getting about a fourth of the way through the third book. I definitely needed to just start the series over again, but it was well worth it. I would have forgotten a ton had I just picked up right where I left off.

Jolie Damman | 7 comments Oh, definitely. I've read books from series I'd dropped months prior. If the storyline was good, I can't see why I wouldn't be able to pick up from where I stopped.

message 21: by Merle (new)

Merle | 4 comments Yes, but I need to read the last chapters of the previous book to continue with the series properly. Otherwise it's often way too confusing and I forget who all the characters were
