ABANDONED. fictional crime book written in late 70s/early 80s. Main character is married with young kids and teen step daughter - women in the area are being murdered (sliced open) - woman suspects her husband is the serial killer

I read this book in 1985/86. I believe it was written by a woman - and the girl who loaned it to me thinks it has the word "girls" in the title. it follows a woman who is married with young kids - her husband has a teen daughter from a previous marriage. Young women are turning up dead in their town (neighbouring towns) sliced from throat to pubic mound (that is a direct description from the book - I remember that but NOT the title!) There is a scene in the book where the entire family is at the beach - the teenager gets her period and asks to leave - as the family is heading to the car, her father berates her for her skimpy bikini - the wife looks over and suddenly realizes her husband is the serial killer and is looking at his own daughter through a serial killer's eyes. Let me know if this rings any bells for anyone out there. I've been trying to find this book for months! Thank you!
