Adriana I've tried to read classics, but I find them to be very boring.
There are some that I've read and enjoyed, such as Peter Pan, The Secret Garden, The Hobbit, A Christmas Carol, and a few others.
Then there are classics such as Anne of Green Gables, Pride, and Prejudice, Little Women, Chronicles of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, & Sherlock Holmes, that I really wanted to love, because I loved the stories told through television, but upon reading the books I found that I just did not enjoy them very much. Because I was bored reading them and/or I really didn't like the writing style.
So, my question is, does anyone have any Classic Books suggestions for someone who doesn't like classics? For someone that gets bored easily if there's nothing really happening? Someone that likes action and not just a lot of dialogue and thoughts? Someone who likes a good page-turner? Someone who likes fantasy and adventure books and not contemporary ones? Someone like me?

DSN If you liked The Secret Garden, I recommend A Little Princess. I recently read both and liked them almost equally, they are by the same author.

DSN I read Frankenstein too and I liked it. I found some parts of it to be a bit boring/slow, but overral it was really interesting, I think it's worth reading! I had never read anything like it before.

I agree. These are better than most classics.

I agree. Definitely worth reading. Dracula is similar, with some slower parts being offset by an interesting story.

Most of them are boring. I didn't like Peter Pan, but the three other books that you liked, I also liked. I enjoyed The Chronicles of Narnia and Sherlock Holmes.

Zoey Some really good classics that I've read include "The Stranger", "Little Women", "A Wrinkle in Time", "The Book Thief", "And Then There Were None", "Speak" is more of a modern "classic" but a five-star read for sure, and of course I agree with you about "The Secret Garden".

I recomend finding a book you can see yourself holding. If the cover looks good and the blurb is to go for it !

If you haven't already, "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S Lewise would be a great series for you to read! Also, Tom Sawyer would be a great choice as well! Both have action and are really fun to read!!

Nguyen Chuc this is the book that made me come to the road of reading, about three children and the way they to be friends, so special, so crazy, so adorable and so imaginative !

Rae I love classics! Little women and Anne of green gables are two of the best books I have ever read!

Caite 🌷 Might I suggest reading "seasonally?" For myself, I have started dozens of books, and it's just not the right time for me to get into them for one reason or another. For instance, I tried reading Jane Eyre in middle school, but only got a couple chapters in. I tried again after college, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Likewise, I tried reading The Lord of the Rings a couple years ago and just couldn't get into it (which was upsetting since it's one of my all time favorite movies). I tried again this past winter and the timing was right! I finished all three books and loved them.
I read "seasonally" because I feel like I have different moods in different seasons. I usually read Anne of Green Gables in spring because Anne first gets to Green Gables in the springitme, and I love to see the beauty of the natural world along with her. In the autumn, I like more dark academia vibes, so I turn to the likes of Romeo and Juliet and The Hound of the Baskervilles (which I also think is easier to get into than some other Sherlock novels). I almost always reread Little Women around New Years. There's something lovely about going forth into a new year with high hopes and ideal with the March sisters who are also trying to improve themselves.
Also I think it helps to just not give up on classics. What may not have been interesting now may prove a lifelong favorite down the road!

Happy Reading!

Sophia I really enjoyed The Three Musketeers. There is a lot of drama and action! I also enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird, though it is slower than one would probably like it to be.

N.M. Mac Arthur Treasure Island is a fun read! 20000 Leagues under the Sea is another good one--you just have to get past the first chapter, which reads like a textbook (Verne did A TON of research for that book). I also really enjoyed Journey to the Center of the Earth.
