I stumbled across The Alice Network while trying to help another book club find a book that they could all get access to through the library while in quarantine. It didn't take me long to decide I wanted to read it: a network of female spies, a disenfranchised coed, and an opening section that yanked me right into the pages and didn't let go!
A word of warning: some of the discussion questions contain spoilers, so if you want to keep guessing, wait a bit to look at them. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I have!

Lyn | 17 comments Yes... I see that now :). I’ll wait to enter into the conversation.

Lyn Sorry, Lyn, I should have thought of this while I was putting more stuff up!! I will make sure to send out head's up at the beginning of the next book!

Lyn | 17 comments No worries. I think this will be a great platform!

Lyn | 17 comments Would it be better to hold off discussion questions? I’m imagining we would take the month to read the book and then begin the discussion virtually around the same day we would be meeting in person. Does that make sense?

Lyn, That's a good idea--sometimes our discussions are so late in the month and I am hoping that people will hop in to keep thinking and posting throughout the month.

What if I posted the next book and a short intro on the first of the month and then opened a new thread that let's everyone post as they have thoughts to share with the warning at the top of the thread that there might be spoilers. And maybe post discussion questions he third Monday of the month?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Lyn | 17 comments What do you think about choosing a book about race next month?

Lyn, I would love to, but I had to get book titles to our marketing department over a month ago. Do you think people would want to do two titles in a month? Or let people pick?

Lyn | 17 comments Maybe...

Janet Cook | 5 comments Lyn—If you had to pick one book relevant to race, what would you choose? There are so many.

I'm wondering about White Fragility. A friend of mine is currently reading it and it sounds amazing, but I haven't read it yet and am hesitant to start a discussion around a topic this sensitive on a book I haven't read.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Lyn | 17 comments I haven’t read that one, though heard lots about it. I recently read I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness.” I would also recommend Just Mercy and anything by Ta-Nehisi Coates but especially Between the World and Me. If you want something shorter, Jelani Cobb writes for the New Yorker - always brilliant. Oh yes, and something “local” Arc of Justice. Fiction: Colson Whitehead’s Underground Railroad.
