Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments I'm up to the start of Chapter 9 now. Will probably read more today too, maybe aiming to get to Chapter 15? or as far as possible really.

I'm a lot more engrossed now. Does anyone know what Nate's joke t-shirt in Chapter 4 (page 58 for me) 'IM HERE BECAUSE MY GRANDKIDS ARENT GOING TO SPOIL THEMSELVES' means? I don't know if I'm being stupid but I just don't get it haha.

Mahi | 114 comments yet to start chapter 4, i'll catch up tmrw(•‿•)

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments I finished it completely last night! I hope that's okay :) I think you'll start flying through it when you're a couple more chapters in Mahi! I'll wait to post my thoughts on here until you're finished

Mahi | 114 comments Finished chapter 10. I'm juggling The Vanishing Stair and Mistborn #1, so it might take 2 more days to finish The Vanishing Stair. Is second book better than the first one??

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments how's it going Mahi? I think I personally found the second book to be of about the same quality as the first.

have you guys heard that Maureen Johnson is writing another book in the series? I don't know how to feel about it not being a trilogy anymore

I just heard about the fourth book. I guess it’s a standalone with the same characters but the story doesn’t have anything to do with the trilogy.
I’m definitely gonna read it, but Idk if I’m gonna like it. The third book is ok/enjoyable but the first two are much better.

Where are you guys at in the second book?

I just wrote a review for the third book, and it was a let-down. But overall I enjoyed it. It’s not the best in the series. The second is definitely the best.

Mahi | 114 comments I have finished the second one. Unlike the ending of the first book, i liked the final chapters of the second one, but The Vanishing Stair has many redundant and dull parts which irked me. Overall, second one is on a par with the first.

Mahi | 114 comments Jadey, Have u already started the third book ?? If not, can we start from tmrw??

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments It seems like we have a lot of the same opinions when it comes to this series Mahi! I haven't started the third book yet so tomorrow works for me.

Yeah imo the fourth book being released kind of just seems like a way to get more money because it's such a popular series. I think I'd read it though just because my favourite thing about the series is the characters since I don't think the execution of the mystery itself is the best.

I'm sorry to hear you found the third book underwhelming, Yanitta! I guess it's hard for a much loved series to deliver on the last book when it's so hyped.

Mahi | 114 comments ok then, we can start the third book from tmrw. i don't think this mystery need 3 books. Though the characters are good, if u just imagine the second book for a min, the other characters are just used for the purpose of conversations with Stevie. Sad thing is that tunnels, Fenton's smelly room, Great house attic got more space than Nate, Vi, and others. Whole book with third person POV of Stevie is a bit uninteresting sometimes.

I enjoyed reading final chapters. The big reveal is just okay, but the writing is pretty good in the last 5-6 chapters.

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments I've read up to chapter 4, and I'm fairly sure I know who the killer is. I won't say though just in case I'm right and you hadn't thought of it and I ruin it for you. Have you managed to read any of it today Mahi or is mistborn still consuming you? :)

message 63: by Mahi (new)

Mahi | 114 comments Mistborn #1 is too good and i don't want to put it down haha. I just finished the first one, so i'm going to spend my time for Truly Devious #3 from now :)

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments Haha yeah I know the feeling! It took me a while for me to get into the first Mistborn but when I was in I was IN.

I read up to Chapter 6 today. Stilllll convinced I know who the killer is and I can't wait for Stevie to actually start solving the current day murders.

Mahi | 114 comments Finished chapter 5. It's like i'm reading the 1st or 2nd book again. I don't understand the reason for explaining the things again and again and even the proceedings are uninteresting :(

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments oh I know that's so annoying isn't it! I suppose it's for people who've not read the previous books in ages or who have mistakenly picked up the third in the series and not read the others; but this much going over doesn't need to happen! if I hadn't read the others in a while I'd Google the plot to refresh my memory or reread the books, and if I'd picked up the third in a series I'd read the other books first. it's just not needed is it

Mahi | 114 comments Jadey, I finished chapter 10. Let me know the status of your read and ur opinion on this book :)

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments That's where I've read up to too! If I'm being honest, I'm a little bored so far. I just want Stevie to start working things out. I'm enjoying the historical flashbacks though! How about you?

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments I didn't read any of it yesterday, but today I read up to chapter 16. I really don't care about ant of the David stuff, and the strongest component for me is still the historical flashbacks.

I agree with you. When I was reading the third book, I felt like David’s appearance was not necessary. I did not like him. But the historical flashbacks were very interesting. I liked Leonard Holmes Nair.

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments Yeah, the David and his dad stuff really doesn't add anything in my opinion. I think it would if it was more entwined with the murder mystery plot? but yeah.

I think I'm going to try and finish this today. I kind of just want to get it over with and see if I'm right about the murderer or not haha

Mahi | 114 comments sorry Jadey, i didn't read any chapters lately due to the project deadline. i will try to finish the book soon

Jadey (the Bookish) | 40 comments That's okay! don't worry about it :) I hope you don't mind me trying to finish it, I can just tell that this isn't going to be a great book for me and I can feel it putting me in a reading slump. I hope your project goes okay!
