ABANDONED. Dystopic medieval fantasy, may be part of a series

I read this book somewhere between 2008 and 2012 i believe. It wnds on a cliffhanger and unfortunately its all i can remember clearly enough of the book to describe. This boy, maybe a young teenager, has been tasked to deliver a message from a sorcerer to a king/knight. He was warned not to stray into the forest because its enchanted and makes people forget things. He stopped in the forest to eat and when he climbed back on his horse a gust of wind carried the letter off. He had started to reach for the letter but had already forgotten its importance and his task. And thats where the book ended. I remember loving this book so much that it only took me 3 days to read it. Someone please help me figure this out.
