Ah, the exciting conclusion where we fully realize that the only monster in the story is the husband (and, ok, the war). Was Nessie real? How did Ellis die? We may never know. The fairytale romance wrapped up a bit too seamlessly in a very complete and happy ending (love, marriage, riches, royalty, babies, and altruism), but we all deserved to see Maddie finally lose herself in "torturous rapture," right? The cast of characters were entertaining and posed as the best and worst examples of humanity. The emotional twists all paid off in the end making it an overall captivating read.
