Sheena | 64 comments Aly wrote: "Sheena, have you started Evelyn Hardcastle? If not, I think it's fine for Maya to take that spot"

I have to read Evelyn Hardcastle for a book club this week. But I went ahead and removed it from the spreadsheet in case anyone needed the spot. I also removed Carl Sagan's Demon-Haunted World. It's just too interesting to read quickly.

Sheena | 64 comments Can a book club read count as BOTM? The participants are all on GoodReads

message 109: by Sheena (last edited Jun 19, 2020 08:54AM) (new)

Sheena | 64 comments Also, do you think If I Die in a Combat Zone, Box Me Up and Ship Me Home by Tim O'Brien would work for fire on the cover? It's hard to see it (I own the physical copy), but the specks are embers of a fire, which makes sense since the book is about the Vietnam War.

I'm just trying to help fill categories so we can move to a new room :)

No, the BOTM are the ones voted on by the group and posted on the main page. Otherwise it's just a buddy read

This edition If I Die in a Combat Zone (Harper Perennial Modern Classics) by Tim O'Brien definitely has fire

Ah ok. I thought we had to use the book with the most ratings but I'm now understanding that it's just for the page number.

It's not part of a series though.

But it has a series title so it might work. Generally the mods say it has to go by the title page so while it's iffy I say we try.

Yes, even that edition. There’s no link to an actual series. It just has that in the title name.

The subtitle is actually a reference to the edition, not a series title. Sorry Anna :( It is a tough category!

I have First Test so if I can get to it this month I'll be reading it. I still have HP #5 to finish and I have started Kill the Queen (Crown of Shards, #1) by Jennifer Estep so I have to finish that then I'll start First Test as my next physical/e-book.

Are you nearly finished with Harry Potter and the First Test?

I just posted my review for the Jemisin book. I might read John Green's Looking for Alaska for the candle task. Not sure yet.

message 132: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments Not really. I'm currently about 20% done HP I'm considering removing it from the SS as I'm only about 30-50% sure I will finish it this month.

I haven't started First Test yet.

Not sure what your teams SS looks like, but you could read for the following:

S,O,A,P in series title
Title has 8 letters ONLY (any edition works)

Celia Buell (semi hiatus) (celiareadsbooks) | 3944 comments Just finished my SOAP in series title one. Can you guys check and see if there's any way I can claim any edition of The Mysterious Benedict Society for candle on the cover. I inspected all edition covers very closely and didn't see anything, but it's the kind of novel that just might have it, so if anyone would be able to take a closer look I would really appreciate it. I am almost done with the audio version and will probably be able to post that tomorrow.

Or for that matter any edition of Mornings in Jenin for candle on cover as well. Again I looked closely at all of them but I might have missed something.

Just had a look through and couldn't see a candle in any of the editions for those books, but just found a version of a book I thought I'd have to put into banked books and I think it has candles in the background so could work? I'll just put the cover here, what do you guys think?
