Finally gotten my hands on a copy! Not gonna read these chats yet, don't want the book spoiled ;) ;)

Happy reading Karro! It's a fantastic book :)

Started this on Friday, and enjoying so far! Not my favorite book of the year, but I’m only halfway through, so that could still change :)It’s definitely really fun though! Love love love Elisabeth, but my favorite aspect of it had to be the atmosphere... was definitely written for people who love books!!
Exactly, the world it is set in is so rich and detailed and brimming with magic and books. It's not shallow and layered really well

That's absolutely fine! As well as gushing over books, we discuss what we didn't like too. What about it particularly did you not like?

For the whole first half of the book we spend the entire time fathoming why Elisabeth is resistant to sorcery. And that answer to that question is given in a single line and then ... what?. Just that?. You are telling me that we are leaving such an important plot point at just that?. I was so disappointed.

With so many questions unanswered, it makes little sense to leave this book a standalone as it is. I fiercely hope that enough people realize this and they make a series out of it because it deserves more.
I guess but the author, from what I saw, is working on another book already (something to do with ghosts and nuns I think)
The story could have been nicely wrapped up in 300 pages yet the author felt the need to add another 100 pages and at some points the story felt too dragged. And the ending chapters? for me the ending felt too rushed.
Just finished this! Not an all time favorite, but the atmosphere + writing + Silas made it a super enjoyable read!I also actually really enjoyed that it was a standalone, because you really don’t see lots of fantasies that are, so it was a welcome change, for me.
The only parts I didn’t love were the pacing (slow and hard to get into sometimes), and the romance. I didn’t really feel the chemistry and Nathaniel was so boring and bland!
Okay I finished the book today and I liked it. What I took from the book is I'm going to be nicer to my books than I already am

♦♣ Queen of Faerie ♠♥ wrote: "It's nice to see a book that highlights the importance of books."I second that statement.

I don't even know what was different, but they were, as you said, dragged out. It was like I at first couldn't keep my hands off the book but then during the last 100 pages I just wanted it to be done, the story to end, finish.
♦♣ Queen of Faerie ♠♥ wrote: "Is it just me that wanted another 'moment' between Elisabeth and Nathaniel"It felt like their romance was too rushed. Their romance didn't get enough "book time"
I think that’s why it was so unrealistic to me, too - because we didn’t really get to see the moments where they fell in love with each other.
Do you guys want a separate discussion board for this book afterwards, (as I shall be locking this discussion). Or are you okay to leave it here?

Nice insight; this part had me a bit confused!
