Val I haven't Lilisa, my 'official' book for Burma was a history. I want to read a few more books set in Southeast Asia though, so I will take a look at it.

I haven't written reviews in quite awhile - on my 2016 list to do rectify. In the meantime, I've read quite a few - The Accidental Empress - Austria/Germany/Hungary, which I really enjoyed, Circling the Sun - Kenya; The Case of the Love Commandos - India, Oscar Wilde and the Murders at Reading Gaol: A Mystery - U.K; The Signature of All Things - Tahiti/U.S./U.K.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments Finished The Adventures of Vela by Albert Wendt for Samoa. From what I can ascertain, I'd recommend reading something else by Wendt and not this book. Ha. My review is here.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments I was in Scotland and Iceland with a more modern retelling of Jane Eyre: The Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margot Livesey. I wasn't blown away but enjoyed the setting and historical details. My review is here.

Well, I've definitely ended my challenge on a high note with Half of a Yellow Sun. I gave it 5 stars.

Val Yes, that is a good one and a definite 5*.

Edit: I get to read it again in February with another group. I'm sure it will be just as good third time around.
I recommend Purple Hibiscus as well. The drama is on a domestic rather than a countrywide scale, but just as powerful.

Thanks for the recommendation - I can see myself devouring everything she has written in order to catch up on what everyone else already knew about!

Val She doesn't have a vast catalogue of books unfortunately, just three novels and some short stories and essays, but that makes it an easy task to read them all.

I didn't want to bang on about it in my review, but I was there! The clothes, the dinner parties, the furniture and the fussing around with the wigs all the time. She is something special.
