ABANDONED. Regency Romance novel two sisters one is on autistic spectrum?

Hello all! I'm looking for this Regency romance novel that I checked out from the Beverly Hills library in the early 90s. It was a traditional Regency with no "steamy" scenes. It was about two sisters and I think they were alone in the world. The younger one had red hair and seemed to be on the autistic spectrum. (I don't remember details but it had to do with the way she interacted with people. Of course they didn't use the term "autistic spectrum" in the book.) The younger sister (view spoiler)[ended up falling in love with a scientist of some kind. (hide spoiler)] I don't remember what happened to the older sister even though that was the main point of the book. If this sounds familiar to anyone I'd be very grateful.
