What is it that people find odd about Dalgliesh?

I don't so much find him odd as cold and fastidious: he holds himself aloof from people, often despises or is disgusted by them. At least he has the self-knowledge to recognise this about himself.
I'm quite behind in the series and only finished this earlier this month. To me, this was the better one of the series. I didn't quite enjoy some of the earlier ones. I enjoyed the role played by Dalgliesh in this and also of his subordinate Massingham. The story I felt was pretty cleverly written and I didn't guess the killer till the very end. The setting was a bit boring but the character set was interesting.
I was somewhat getting disappointed in this series, but this one made me want to continue.
I somehow liked Adam Dalgliesh from the very beginning. He is one of the reasons I continued the series. He is reserved and a little fastidious, but I don't find any thing odd in that.
