Whew! Besides not having a copy still--this month is insane with drop offs for the kids' things, "virtual" graduation ceremonies, and pick ups for the others..... Reading is not the best this June..

Montzalee Wittmann (montziew) | 60 comments Vampire on the Orient Express by Shane Carrie is a pretty good story with a different vibe on vamps. Nice plot, creatures, and characters. I couldn't help visualising the movie Murder on the Orient Express and taking the background, old clothes, train, etc. Soon I was visualising it as a movie! Nicely done! Entertaining and great paranormal fantasy!

Graeme Rodaughan Glad you enjoyed it, Montzalee.

Leigh Paynter (leigh_paynter) | 21 comments I just finished. The vampires - were uniquely creepy in description while still adhering to traditional vampire characteristics. I thought the book was very well written, great attention to period details, and I agree with the previous comment that it would make a great movie as well.

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Leigh, yes - good fun all round.

Yes, it read like a movie in my head as well.

I have to say, lately Buddy and Group reads on HA have brought me a lot of joy in these weird times, plan on doing more of them. Just got my book for the July one :)

Ben | 4 comments My first book ever read in conjuncture with this group!

The idea is surprising in its simplicity. It is the well known Orient Express traveling from Paris to Constantinople. However, some of the passengers are… unwelcome.

It all rested on the execution, which I think was well done. The author seems to be well versed and highly skilled, I really enjoyed his writing.

I found the novel to be atmospheric, and for a few short hours i was catapulted back into the early 1900s, to an era of corsets, cigars, pocket watches and... Vampires.

The novel was both nerve wrecking and scary at times.

My only complaint is the novel was a bit too short for my liking, as I felt the pages meant for character development were left on the floor of the editing room and I had a sense that some the characters weren't sufficiently flushed out.
