Q3 - Once Upon a Time

I read Bears Behaving Badly. The title and cover gave me (and my teens!) quite a laugh, but this was a really good paranormal romance. If you're looking for for a were-wolf or a bear prompt for this challenge, it might be a good choice. It's open-door, but if you look at the cover, you could probably guess that already! Fun read!

Snow White:

Main character Kya Clark is surrounded by many marsh animals and even befriends the herring gulls.

Lisanne, how good is Where the Crawdads Sing?"
It was a 4-4.5 star read for me! Owens shaped the scene of the marsh and swamp lands very vividly and expertly. It almost felt like I could feel and see the grasses and animals through the pages myself. The ending knocked my breath out as well. Thought it was a very well-executed revelation, though I've heard mixed opinions. A big downside for me though was the dialogue. The moment people started talking to each other I thought it all sounded very unnatural and overwritten. So, that could be improved in her future books, but all in all I would say it's definitely worth the read.

American Demon This is a really good addition to the Hollows series. There are all kinds of prompts that work well with fantasy themes you could get from this book. I used it for mirror because there were many pages detailing the main characters creation of a new scrying mirror to talk to demons with.

I have changed "snow: Blood on Snow
to "Animal Companions: Where the crawdads sing"
My progress is still at 6/12.
Just letting you know why its different.

Read Little Women with my kids. It was for the Sisters prompt I made with Snow White Rose Read. . . .Probably a little bit of an obvious choice, but a great book for all ages and both boys and girls.

Read China Rich Girlfriend for my rags to riches/golden goose prompt for Jack and the Beanstalk. Frothy summer fun!

Read The Lies That Bind for unrequited love. There's a lot of characters here thinking they're in love and not having that love returned. This is not my favorite of Giffin's books, but it's a pleasant read.

OLD: There Was an Old Woman

JEALOUS: Wicked Jealous

Read The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared and counted it towards "sea" because dude spends a lot of years sitting on the beach.

Finished The Phoenix and the Carpet as a mild take on a portal fantasy as the carpet can take these kids anywhere they wish for. This is a gently fantasy for children, and it's very engaging, even though it was written in 1905. There are a couple of places where it hasn't aged well (like calling indigenous island dwellers "savages"), but a sweet book overall. I'm going to see if my younger children (ages 9 & 10) are interested in it for a read-aloud.

Halfway there!!
I read The Love Story of Missy Carmichael which just made me ugly cry. Such a good book!

Read Rich People Problems for my "Jack" prompt for Jack and the Beanstalk. However, I must confess that Jack is a minor character in this installment of the trilogy.
