ABANDONED. 70-80's Fantasy, a slave/servant girl, naturally good with magic, needed for a quest

I only read a portion of this book when I was like 16. So sometime in the late 90's or early 2000's. It was probably written in the 70-80's during the height of fantasy novels. The only thing I REALLY remember is a scene where the girl/young woman was in a church or temple and she was using 'glamour magic' to be unseen or unnoticeable. There was someone approaching her and they made her nervous and so she either lost her concentration on the spell or she wasn't good at it yet. I think she was needed on some quest as she was the chosen one or some prophecy. I can't remember any of the characters names, but that she was under the care or tutelage of a mage or sorceress of some kind.
