I'm currently reading Rex Libris Volume 1. It was recommended to me by a coworker and it's defiantly something that anybody that anybody that has a passion for libraries should read! As I'm reading it I often find myself relating to many of the situations (in a much more mundane way of course). Normally not much of a graphic novel fan but I'm defiantly making an exception for this one!

Susan (yetanothersusan) | 203 comments I am in the middle of reading Lisa Gardner's series. I like the writing and the characters are emerging, though not as fast as I would like.

My goal is to read all of the books for the alt+library book club, starting with "Black Eyed Blonde" by Benjamin Black. I also look forward to finishing the Heroes of Olympus series and starting the Red Rising trilogy. Happy Reading everyone!

Brittany Allred (brittanyallred) | 1 comments I'm reading The Cinderella Murder by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke

Davina | 1 comments I'm reading knockdown by Sarah Graves. It was a random pick while perusing the library shelves.

Julie | 125 comments I am almost done with half wild by Sally green. it's pretty good so far.

message 8: by Glee (new)

Glee | 14 comments Just read Firefly graphic novel "Serenity:Leaves on the Wind". Disappointed. I am a major Firefly fan/geek. This was very thin. One new ally/element that was pleasing/surprising, but he may not have survived Zoe's wrath. But. That was it.

Listening to "Sand" by Hugh Howey - loved his "Wool" series. This has a lot of the same promising kinds of elements.

About to start reading "Under the Wide and Starry Sky" for book club. And "Some Luck" is next in the pile.

Chip | 89 comments I just started The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber. I was going to read Under the Skin by the same author - I saw the movie and didn't like it, though several people said the novel was much better - but when looking for that, this title grabbed me instead. The "book of strange new things" in the title is the Bible. It's a story about a Christian pastor sent as a missionary to another planet. I'm a huge fan of The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell (thanks again, Brendle!) and this book sounded like a similar concept, at least superficially. I've read 100 pages so far and I'm liking it very much.

Francie (francie62) | 72 comments I'm reading The Good Lord Bird by James McBride. I'm a bit more than halfway through the novel and so far it's not living up to the recommendations I got from friends or the reviews I read. Hopefully, the second half will be better!

In honor of the month and new year I'm on a self improvement kick. I decided to be happy this year so my first book is Happier at Home by Gretchen Rubin. It's a fun, easy read from someone who has experience getting and being happy and I've gotten several good suggestions about other books that don't concern themselves with happiness from her book. Sort of a win win situation!

I spent my weekend reading two very different books.

First was Lives in Ruins by Marilyn Johnson, a look at the lives and careers of archaeologists. Johnson specializes at looking at interesting occupations. Her previous books were on obituary writers and librarians. This book was very enjoyable and really drives home the point that Indiana Jones has nothing to do with reality.

The second book was A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev. This got glowing reviews on most of the romance blogs out there and I was eager to give it a try, most especially since diversity in romance books is usually sadly lacking. I was not as enamored of the book as the bloggers but it was generally an enjoyable read and I would recommend that fans of contemporary romance check it out.

Cat Fithian (caterwaul1) | 28 comments I'm reading (on Overdrive audio) Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. It's the second in the Percy Jackson series. Yes, I know I'm behind the crowd on this series, but I'm glad I'm finally reading them - they're fun!

message 15: by John (new)

John | 105 comments Yesterday I picked up "The Three Body Problem" by Chinese science fiction author Cixin Liu. Cixin is one of the most popular science fiction writers in China, and this was the first of his works translated into English for sale in the US. Ninety pages into it and I'm hooked.

In audio, I've started "Kitty's House of Horrors," by Carrie Vaughn.

Julie | 125 comments I have been reading red rising by pierce Brown and loving it so far. I am reading it after the hype . :)

Teresa | 20 comments I've been reading The strange library by Murakami. Love his style - magical and hypnotic and this book is so short! His last two books are incredibly long and while the writing was fun it took a while to get through them. This piece just flies!

Chelsea wrote: "I just started FIREFIGHT, the sequel to Brandon Sanderson's STEELHEART,"

@Chelsea I was fortunate my requested copy of Firefight appeared on my desk right before my lunch hour because I could not wait to start reading it! It did not disappoint. Thanks again for turning me onto Steelheart.

I'm now just starting An Inquiry Into Love and Death by Simone St. James a gothic tale set in 1924 England. It's delightfully creepy and atmospheric so far.

Tabin Crume | 2 comments I'm reading "Eat Move Sleep : why small choices make a big difference" by Tom Rath. After realizing many Americans spend 22 hours a day either sleeping (poorly) or sitting in a chair after eating copious amounts of (delicious, mouth-watering) fried food, my co-workers can now find me doing chair exercises as I type away.

Robin M. | 28 comments "Universal Alien" by Gini Koch is the bus book I'm reading right now. It's part of her Alien series I enjoy there a fast fun read. I'm also about to start the "King's Deryni" by Katherine Kurtz as my home book. It's part of her Childe Morgan books. Morgan was my favorite character from her King Kelson series and it's nice to know of his backstory.

Cat Fithian (caterwaul1) | 28 comments I finished listening to Sea of Monsters about Percy Jackson and now I'm listening to Prelude to Foundation by Asimov. I'm also reading Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith. Both Science Fiction, Asimov's is a classic that I'm finally reading for the first time so that I can talk about it with my 20-year-old son who is a fan, and Smith's is brand new teen SciFi about the end of humanity in our world, as told by a teenage boy who was there when it happened.
