Paulo Izidoro (paulojpizidoro) | 6 comments When adding an book edition to Goodreads the edition can be accessed by its own number and URL.
example: a book 52961731 and the URL
Will that URL be a permanent one? (as I can link to it from a different software so people can go to Goodreads and comment it)
Or this URL could be used in future for different books or different editions of the same book?

A ask this because a have some URLs for books I added and they worked fine. Now, some months later, those URLs are pointing to a different edition of the title (the main edition?) and not to the edition I added (same work from the same author but a translation of that book with a translated title).

A test case if you need it:

Original URL for a book I added - goodreads:48478803
The URL does not exists anymore and it goes to a different edition: 4044427

the book I added is now: 52961731

... or a second example:
added this one: 48474720

but now it defaults to a different edition: 839773

and the book I added is now 52944638

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1763 comments The URL for the specific edition is permanent to that edition.

The reason those specific URL's no longer work is because the edition you added was deleted and a new edition was created (that's the new URL you're seeing). When an edition is deleted, the URL for the deleted edition will redirect to the default edition for that work.

There was a system issue with every book edition added over a period of a few months and all of those editions had to be deleted and re-added. See below question in the Help section and the moderator response.

Paulo Izidoro (paulojpizidoro) | 6 comments Thanks for your reply.
Hope the issue is solved now.
Permanent ID are relevant for outside linking to GR so this shouldn't happen in the future.

Also my suggestion: when an edition is deleted the user that created it should be alerted!
