message 1: by K (new)

K | 1143 comments I basically just want to keep working away at my owned TBR shelves and not be quite so ambitious with my Goodreads challenge. I started with 150 last year, pulled it back to 70 and STILL didn't make it. I basically don't want to put so much pressure on myself, so that I can get back to enjoying books more and not trying to just meet a quota.

My reading resolution is a little like Kiera's - I need to read the books I own, especially the ones I've owned for years! And as well as the "real" books, my kindle total needs to be reduced dramatically!

So not so much library, not so much adding to the TBR and more changing the unread home bookshelves to the read ones;)

My resolution is to finish some of the many series I have left half done. I have a tendency to put the next book onto my TBR list and never get back to it. Or by the time I do I have forgotten the story completely!

That's frustrating! I find the past review is often helpful there:)

Veronica ⭐️ | 2384 comments Those Kindle books are too easy to obtain. I've decided to stop reading those kindle emails with all those great .99 cent deals until my Kindle TBR is reduced.

Haha! Yes that would be a good idea...just delete, delete, delete - but are we strong enough to do that;)

message 7: by Sally906 (last edited Jan 01, 2015 09:00PM) (new)

Sally906 | 86 comments I don't make resolutions of any description as a rule BUT if I have to think of reading ones they would be:
1. To have fun with my reading and to continue allowing myself to stop reading if I am not enjoying it - I don't HAVE to finish a book if I am not liking it. I started doing this a couple of years back and it took no end of stress of myself - mind you I don't review them and they get quietly deleted off my Goodread shelves.
2. To remember that challenges are a guideline not a goal - and if I don't finish a challenge then that's ok as long as I have done the best that I can - this links back to resolution 1 - have fun with my reading - challenges are certainly fun :)

Zoey (rozannen) | 1045 comments Mine is the same as Phrynnes. To try & finish some of the series I have started. I have made a list of the ones I have started & what books are next, so will be trying to fit as many of them into this years challenges as I can.

message 9: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I just gotta keep slogging through my TBR and try to avoid sneaking in recommendations from all YOU PEOPLE!!!! It's your fault my TBR is sooooo bad!

message 10: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79977 comments Mod
LOL! Of course it is Marianne! We'll quite happily share the blame;)

Maybe we should all make a resolution to stop worrying about how long our TBR lists are. We are never going to get to the end of them anyway:)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Yes, I see a good review, I can't resist:D

I'm very much the same - or new releases!

Totally agree with you on all points there Sally.

message 16: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9836 comments My resolution is similar to Brenda's.

I want to reduce my stash of unread paperbacks and ebooks and reduce the number of new books I acquire.

I can add as many books as I like to my tbr list as long as I don't buy them straight away and review the list every now and then to trim it down.

And as Sally says, I plan to just enjoy what I read and not feel I have to finish a book I don't like or complete a challenge. It's going to be another fun year :)

message 17: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Capes | 226 comments Read 30 books, that's it :)

Hopefully I can make it! (nearly finished the Bon Scott bio, enjoying it a lot too, off to a good start at least!)

We're worse than kids in a lolly shop, aren't we Marianne?

message 19: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (mademoisellesnow) | 7 comments I've got a goal this year for 100 Books. Last year I only made it over 70.

message 24: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) Good topic Michael, I'm aiming to read one book a week this year. Ultimately I'd love to be able to read as fast as Brenda so that I have some hope of getting through all the fantastic books that are already written so that I can make room on my TBR for those that are yet to be...

message 25: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79977 comments Mod
:D Sorry;)

Haha it's a compliment Brenda. Hopefully my book a week challenge will make me read faster!

Well thank you then;) I wish you all the best with it.. (I couldn't read this fast when I was younger - had kids, a job...)

message 28: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Page (cassandrapage) My reading resolutions are largely Goodreads-based:

* read at least 40 full-length novels
* read 12 Aussie books across different genres
* read and review at least 15 books by Aussie women (for the Australian Women Writers challenge)

I'm not making resolutions about not buying new books because I know I won't keep them! :p

Good luck Cass:)

message 30: by D.K. (new)

D.K. Mok (dkmok) Phrynne wrote: "Maybe we should all make a resolution to stop worrying about how long our TBR lists are."

I agree with Sally and Phrynne. There are more good books than there are hours in which to read them, so it's a shame to spend that time reading books you don't enjoy, or to worry about how many books you still have to read.

My resolution for 2015 is to set aside more time for reading. Not just snatching pages where I can, but quarantining regular afternoons or evenings to get through some of the books I've been wanting to read.

D.K. Mok (dkmok) Cassandra wrote: ...read and review at least 15 books by Aussie women (for the Australian Women Writers challenge)..."

Cassandra, it's great to hear that you're taking part in the AWW Challenge. I know quite a few bloggers who participate, and it's always interesting to follow their progress.

message 32: by paperplane (new)

paperplane As always i try to read 52 books but never seem to make it, this year though I'm determined to do it!

Last year was appalling, only 16 books, the year before I got to 46 so I know it is possible.

message 33: by Neko (new)

Neko Just to go through my unread books on my shelves like i started last year. Will possibly start that in Feb unless my kindle has my attention.

Possibly read them quick as well? This is a huge maybe to me though.

message 34: by Jazs (new)

Jazs I read 65 books last year so I'm aiming for 70 this year and not planning to re-read anything to make up that number and complete my prompted 2015 reading challenge while I do it.

I'm already nearly at 30 so doing good!
