ABANDONED. Boy in Hawaii (?) who is chased by two bodyguards and is running in a field from a tsunami (?) at the end of book

I read this book somewhere in elementary school. A boy lives in or moves to Hawaii. I remember there were two bodyguards or big men involved that were trying to catch the boy. At the end of the story, he is running in a field away from a tsunami or other natural disaster.

(Element of plot that might be from another book: boys best friend falls down a fire escape and is seriously injured or dies which causes the boys family to move)
