Character Build: Story 2

[Hannah]

Okay I thought we could try something to to refine and aid our stories. Character build is exactly what it sounds like. We will use this to discuss what Our characters will be like including things such as; their name, age, gender (unless we decide to leave name, age, and gender a mystery. Sort of in an Edgar Allan Poe type style), physical description, personality, how they feel towards things, their back-story, etc. If you don't agree with someone's idea, speak up (don't lash out), everyone should be okay with the character. We can do this for "villains" too. After we have our characters I'll post a story topic to put them into action.

Okay so lets start build a protagonist for a new story. I'm thinking maybe a girl?

[Natalie]

Name should be... anything except Alison since we already used that in another story.

[Hannah]

Hmm maybe Jessie or Layla or Diana? Unless you have another idea

[Toni]

Naomi? Maybe we should start with race so it will be easier to name the girl

[Hannah]

Good idea! So what do you think?

[Toni]

Well... it just depends. I am not trying to be racist in saying this but the girl can be black. I say this because I haven't read a lot of books with a black protagonist, unless it is some nonfiction book.

[Hannah]

Okay she can. I think doing something against the norm is awesome and I agree. There aren't enough African-American female protagonists. Okay so name then. Naomi, Layla, Shay, etc. What do you guys think?

[Toni]

I like Naomi. Maybe Jaden... Let's go with Jaden.

[Natalie]

I like Naomi as well and jayden. We should describe characteristics and see which one suits her better :)

[Hannah]

Awesome I'm thinking about a family oriented type person.

[Toni]

Okay. Jaden is 16. She loves to read, draw, play sports, and is pretty good at math. Her favorite sport is basketball. Her father left her when she was a baby. She has a best friend Naomi. Naomi is also 16 and loves makeup, clothes, shoes, etc. She is always convincing Jaden to be more girly. Her favorite show is Once Upon a Time. What is the genre of the story?

[Natalie]

Fiction..... maybe with a little romance (nothing huge)

[Toni]

Okay. Is this fantasy or paranormal?

[Hannah]

I was thinking realistic fiction. Wow those details were decided awfully fast lol I'm good with them just maybe next time we all could get involved a bit more so it's not just one person deciding. It is a group story after all. But I do like it.

[Natalie]

I agree with Hannah on realistic fiction...

[Toni]

I totally agree on the character details. I'm sorry. You two can come up with character sketches to. We can combine all three ideas for each person. I was just giving a few suggestions.

[Natalie]

How about... Jaden/Naomi should have dark brown hair and green/brown eyes. What about you guys?

[Toni]

I don't know how the light green eyes will work. They are supposed to be black girls. If you still like green eyes thats ok. What is realistic fiction?

[Hannah]

Realistic fiction is a genre consisting of stories that could have actually occurred to people or animals in a believable setting. These stories resemble real life, and fictional characters within these stories react similarly to real people.

[Toni]

Like if I stay?

[Natalie]

Well... I'm not exactly sure about if I stay because she was looking at her body while she was like a ghost... I guess it would qualify as realistic fiction, though.

[Toni]

We have done two characters Jaden and Naomi. They are best friends. Should we introduce a boyfriend?

[Hannah]

Hmm we should definitely have a boy but do want him to be a boyfriend or like a best friend? And it bf then who's bf?

Btw for a name I vote Lucas or Dean.

[Toni]

I like Dean. We could do it to where Dean starts to like Naomi and Jaden starts to feel lonely...

[Hannah]

Hmm I like that. Okay so he needs a personality. Maybe a party boy? But keeps his friends close ya know? Energetic. Smooth. Idk what do you think?

[Toni]

Yeah, what about school? Is he the kind that skips most of the time or no? If you don't mind me asking is he Caucasian because I think that would be better for the story.

[Hannah]

Mmhmm he could be a skipper. And if you think that is best for the story then yeah why not. Okay build. Big guy? Muscular? Thin and wirey? And eyes: brown like a puppy? Or blue like the ocean?

[Toni]

Well if we make him a football player than he can't skip. I vote for him to be a football player who is good at math and likes American History. I vote for ocean blue eyes.

[Natalie]

Hmm... how about blue like an ocean... Muscular. And his hair.... Hmm...black or brown?

[Toni]

Definitely Brown hair. Is he an only child?

[Natalie]

I think he should have a little sister so it can show how sweet he really is.

[Toni]

Ok. His dad left after he found out Dean's mom was pregnant with baby no. 2

[Natalie]

Okay... we shod make him fairly popular.

[Hannah]

Yeah if he's a party boy then yeah he should popular. Plus football players usually are.

[Hannah]

Maybe he's (not to be a cliché) quarterback

[Natalie]

Okay. Race?

[Hannah]

Dean is Caucasian and the girls are African American.

[Toni]

How do they hang out? Then we can go into their backstory. What about parents?

[Hannah]

How about They met in the second grade before Dean became popular, and they have been friends since.

[Toni]

I like that. Is Naomi popular or does she know people?

[Natalie]

I was thinking that they met in second grade but they kind of drifted off as Dean got popular?

[Hannah]

She can be like semi-popular. Like the top of her clique but not in the IT crowd. Sort of the laid back artsy type

[Natalie]

Yeah...

[Hannah]

Natalie hm I like that. Something can rekindle their friendship.

[Toni]

But he still hangs out with them, because they are like family. He doesn't hang out frequently. Talks to them about once a month...

[Natalie]

Yeah. Maybe not once a month, just like a wave and a smile every time he saw them.

[Hannah]

We can figure out what rekindles their closeness once we start writing. Is there anything else we want to include about them? We need a sort of "villain" (for lack of a better term) too.

[Natalie]

Hmm... thinking a popular girl that wants Dean to be hers?

[Toni]

Yeah, she can be the antagonist. What's her name?

[Hannah]

I think her name should be Samantha
