Fantasy Reading Nook Thank God i have a reason to start this finnaly

Taylor (amateursuperhero) | 66 comments I read my first book of the challenge early (I cheated and read back in December) and I've actually started reading this book! I'm about 40% of the way done and hope to finish by the end of the week. I'm a big fan of the show and I'm actually glad that I read the book after watching. There are so many things in the text that foreshadow events that I've already witnessed in the show and now I find myself reading into every sentence looking for more foreshadowing as to what's to come.

Jessica (jollybookshelf) haha maggie! That's a funny story (about the hbo). I hope you're able to catch up on the tv series, because it's fantastic!

Peter As well done as the tv series is, it doesn't compare to the books. There is just so much more information from being able to read the thoughts, emotions and motivations of the characters that the tv show just can't portray, especially in an hour long episode.

I watched the show first and immediately needed to read the book. Season one follows the first book almost word for word. As soon as season 2 starts though, the tv series begins to differ from the books a little bit. I would recommend reading the books separate from watching the show as it becomes VERY confusing trying to balance events and characters between the show and the books, because the tv series combines/adds/or omits characters from the books.

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 414 comments I'd still go for the book over the tv series with this one. (Although it's nice to have both, actually.)

Libby (starzgirl1) I've never seen the show before, but I'm really enjoying the book so far :) I will probably start watching the series after I finish reading!

Marie I've been thinking about reading this series for quite a while. I saw the first season of the tv series, and figured I would read the books before watching the rest. But I haven't gotten into it yet. What's holding me back is the fear that it will be a difficult read, that the language will be circumstantial, dreary and that I'll need a ton of concentration, so what do you guys that have already started it got to say about it?

message 8: by Anne (new)

Anne Mey Damn, not many days left but I'll try to read this one as fast as I can, it's my choice for week 1 as well.
And I've seen the TV show first so I know some of the story. Hope I'll like it.

It is a difficult read because of the descriptions and because the book is big. But the language isn't "old"

Okay, thanks! I'll give it a try, and start it tonight! Wow, 2015 is gonna be a good bookyear, weehoo!

I read Divergent for this weeks challenge because I don't think I'm going to able to finish A Game Of Thrones before the end of the week because it's so long and I'm only 75 pages in. Pretty sure it's impossible to finish the book in time.

The language definitely isn't old. It is pretty easy to get overwhelmed with all the characters. There is a handy dandy guide in the back of each book to keep everyone straight though!

Anne Mey So far I really like the writing and coming back to the beginning of the story reminds me of how I liked the first season of the Tv show. Can't wait to read more !

message 14: by Marah (new) - added it

Marah (eyreo) I'll be reading it for week 51, but I'm going out of order. I love the TV show and can't wait to read the books.

C. (thesoundandthefury_) Hah, this one either you love it or you hate it.

I personally loved it.

Well, yes. Although I agree with you, I think this problem is common with any kind of adaptation.
