Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Oh, come on! 1.5C is not that bad. Just put a thick coat, scarf, hat, gloves, a blanket or whatever you need and go see the lights. Don't miss them again! I would love to see them!

message 3152: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I would go out for that even with -15! Do as Sandra says Rusalka ;-)

message 3153: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Wuss! We used to go out at -20 to watch the lights. It seemed the colder, the better the display and the more you could hear them.

message 3154: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee The coldest ever was about 7C but that was very long ago .. Now during the coldest winter it would be about 15 or 16 degrees !!
It would be windy sometimes, it would rain a little for like 7~15 days a year or so, there would be a lightning storm but it never caused any fires "thank god" .. Never snowed .. Never !!
We used to have ice cubes sometimes "what does it called ?! When it rains ice instead of water drops?" We used to have a lot of those when i was a kido, but not anymore ! I think its cuz of global worming !

My only wish is to build a snowman one day, with real snow, and have a snowball fight !

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Do you mean hailstones CFDeeDee?

I hope you can build your snowman someday! :)

I went to work today (1 hour commute), was there for a few hours, and realized that I need my Master of Science certificate tomorrow for some dissertation related official stuff. I didn't know it was needed, and it could be later than tomorrow normally, but because of my upcoming holidays, tomorrow it is. So I call my mom (what are moms for ;-)) to ask whether it's still at my parents' place or whether I have it at my home. Need to know because I wasn't sure, and if it's at my place no problem, but if it's at my parents, I would have to go there today as well. She's sure it's at their place, so I go back home around 1pm (1 hour commute) to make sure I really don't have it at my place, it's not here, so I take the bus to my parents (45 minutes). I find the folder with all my diplomas and certificates, but the one I need is not in there. Search some more, nope. Bus back home (45 minutes), I look once more in the place where it should be if I have it, and yep, there it is. What a waste this day is!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Oh my God, Peggy! You are The Girl on the Train/Bus! After reading your comment I feel like I have accomplished this month challenge! Badge me, please!

@Janice, Now that you say it, I remember I've heard the cold weather improves the sight of northern and southern lights. So, go for it, Rus!

@CFDeeDee, I love snow, but I hate hailstones...

message 3157: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Didn't know its called hailstones .. New word to learn, i've just googled it, what i remember that it used to be clear not this much white like the pics on google :P but basically its the same thing.

WooooW Peggy, what a day !! I hate it when that happens, but on the bright side you found it and it wasn't lost .. my dad always say "when you need something you won't find it, just forget it and it'll come to you"
Sometimes I think its true !!

message 3158: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Janice, I feel you on the busted hot water heater! Hopefully the carpet cleaning will help with the smell. The main worry will come from the possibility of mold if everything doesn't get dried out completely... I'm thinking the ceiling more so than the carpet since you had it cleaned. I wonder if your upstairs neighbor had their carpet cleaned too.

I can't remember if I ever told about the final response on the insurance paying for repairs after my M-I-L's water heater busted. There was a clause in her policy that specifically excludes damages caused by water heaters! We found her original policy and there it is spelled out in black and white. :(

@Peggy, did you at least manage to fit some reading time in during all of those bus rides? You gotta find a silver lining somewhere!

On the subject of weather, it is hotter than Hades here! Temps are in the upper 90's (F), humidity at least 94%, and practically zero wind! As soon as you step outside, you will start sweating. And the air seems so thick because of the humidity, it feels like you can barely breathe. And yesterday was the first official day of summer, so it'll only get worse over then next couple of months!

message 3159: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sorry to hear you really could not get anything back from insurance kimeydiann.

Wow, 94% humidity! Where in the US are you again?

message 3160: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I think she lives in the south, it sounds horrible! There is a huge difference between dry heat and humidity, not to mention what it does to your hair ;-)

message 3161: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie @KimeyDiann, sorry to hear that the insurance did not cover :(
@Berit, ugh! Yes, humidity and hair do not mix well. I have a natural wave in my hair plus it is thick so my hair definitely hates the humidity :( suffice to say, I tend to wear my hair in a ponytail if I'm going to be outside for more than 10 minutes lol :)

message 3162: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Berit is correct, I live in Mississippi. It is not unusual for us to have 100% humidity. I know it is like this every year, but this year seems worse for some reason. All of the usual summer outdoor activities that I love to do (canoeing, hiking, off-roading, etc.), I'm struggling to find the desire to do because it is just so flipping hot.

I almost suggested to my husband yesterday that we take our side-by-side to one of the ATV parks, but decided against it because of the heat. He told me that he almost suggested it to me as well, but decided it was too hot. LOL.

message 3163: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Does "humidity" mean when the air seems to be wet?

message 3164: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I would say, yes :-) at least that's how I have always understood it to be :-)

message 3165: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee I hate humidity weather, it goes hot and it only makes you feel like you're sweating every where !! I don't think I'm a summer person, even though when I'm face to face with people I don't complain much about it.

Finally I feel like I'm back to my normal life, but still not 100% normal. A good thing is I'm going forward on my story, so far its around 60 pages ..
I wonder how long it would take me to finish it, and how much imagination it would consume me to make it about 400 pages !

message 3166: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Good to hear that normal life is coming back for you :)
I feel the same about summer.
Hope your writing goes well :)

message 3167: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Thanks .. Nothing would heal a broken heart after losing someone better than time.

I hope too, I just hate the editing part, my friend goes so picky around everything !! And I need my characters to stop doing anything for the next few hours so I could take a break LOL ^.^"

I feel like I'm running out of imagination ;P

message 3168: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Agreed in regards to time :-)
Awe, imagination never runs out, right? :-)

message 3169: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Jun 22, 2015 06:56PM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Didn't help I went outside without pants on ;) I know, I know, but we don't really do cold weather here, really. I mean -7C is the lowest it really gets, and maybe for a few nights per year.

No sightings last night. They apparently came and played at 5.30am but I don't believe that time actually exists. Should be pretty strong this evening after sunset. I'll be driving directly south at 6pm (hour after sunset) with a completely clear view of the southern horizon (well, with the Brindabellas (mountain range) in the way) so if I don't see it then, it's not going to happen. The main highway I'll be on is hardly lit at all as well, so I will report back.

message 3170: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie @Rusalka hopefully you seem some cool sites tonight! But no pants? Brr!!

The finale for the college World Series (baseball) is happening now. The college where we live is in the finale! We are hoping they win cause I want to go to a parade for a championship team since Ive never been to one (not sure if they will have one but one can hope).
Also, they are playing in Omaha, Nebraska where we lived for a few years so it is cool to see some of our old neighborhood on TV :)

message 3171: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee @Strphanie: I hope it doesn't .. I really love imagining stuff .. Fingers crossed for your team .. Hope they win

@Rusalka: no pants !! Are you sure thats a good choice? Hood luck in your little adventure

message 3172: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Pants are always optional ;)

message 3173: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thanks CFDeeDee :) I only lasted till 10pm inning. The game didn't start till 8pm here and by 10pm I was tired lol! They lost 5-1 :( it is only game one though. It is a best of 3 series, and the pitcher that pitched for the other team last night can't pitch all the games (at least I don't think he can), so here's hoping my team wins the next 2 :)

Rusalka, Lol! I just got an email from a retail store and the subject line was No Pants? It made me laugh out loud :)

message 3174: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @CFDeeDee: Glad to hear you are feeling a little better. Be patient with yourself. I'm sure writing is a good escape from reality. I'm not creative enough to write so I just read other people's stories instead. :)
What are you writing about?

message 3175: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee @Tusalka: i won't risk it even if i had the chance to do that :P

@Stephanie: oooww sorry to hear that .. Perhaps they'll win next time ! Btw, I never get baseball .. I watched movies about it but I never understood the game.

@Kimey: I like the worlds my head creates, I usually imagine things when I'm alone or before bed, so I never find a problem doing that, but now I feel like I have to do it all the time so I could continue writing LOL .. I'm writing something about pirates and curses and stuff like that .. But I have to be careful not to copy anything from Pirates of the Caribbean - except for the songs .. I love their songs - or any other pirates story I've read before !

For now I'm looking for someone to proof read it when I'm done with the editing .. Ggghhhaa I hate editing XP

message 3176: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Baseball can be boring to watch. I played softball growing up and "retired" in 2010. When I was 7, the coaches pitched to us but I don't remember when we as players started pitching. I was a pitcher yet I can't recall how old I was when I first started pitching, lol. I played one year in HS but I wanted to work and make money more than playing sports. It wasn't fun anymore because the coach didn't like my dad, therefore took it out on me :( I played slow-pitch where the pitcher throws the ball in an arc, slowly. I played co-Ed (with guys and girls) which was really fun! I stuck with some of the same people for many years. My last year playing was the most fun which is why I "retired" and because I got married and moved, lol :) I don't miss playing at all though. It was a fun time in my life that I can look back fondly on :)
Are there sports you like?

message 3177: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I played soccer on recreational leagues until I was about 35. My daughter has been playing since she turned 7 (she's 16 now) so soccer pretty much permeates my entire life! She's a keeper and is playing now with the hope of receiving a sports scholarship to add to an academic scholarship for college.

message 3178: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee The only sport I get is basket ball .. But I never watched a single game or played one, I know all the rules though. Other than that I don't understand any other ball game !

message 3179: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie That's awesome, Kandice! Soccer has really grown, which is great to see. I played soccer too, but only till I was 16. I hated the running part :p which is why I was a keeper but wasn't very good. Oh well :)
I don't watch much basketball but love the NCAA tournament every year :) I don't know any of the rules though.

message 3180: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I grew up in a soccer family, but my boys play baseball. And I'd have to say I enjoy watching baseball much more than soccer. And I played soccer, my dad coach soccer, my brothers went to college on soccer scholarships, my brother still makes his living in a soccer world, but I still prefer baseball!

message 3181: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Baseball can be boring to watch even when you know what is going on. I hated being made to play softball as a kid. Then my son started playing t-ball, and I was forced to learn the rules. The day it was his turn to play shortstop (when he was four) I was told to get out there and help him, and I did not have a clue what all a shortstop did. So I started learning about baseball. My son got better at it as he got older, but when he graduated to "kid pitch" he was on a team that was almost all older boys and the coach wasn't very good. In an effort to keep him interested, we started following the local baseball team, the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was then a very new team, but it had some great pitchers--Randy Johnson and a newer guy named Curt Schilling. That was the year the Diamondbacks played in the World Series. In the last game of the series, it was looking bleak. It was the bottom of the Ninth, The Yankees had a lead, and the staff had already started setting up the stage for the celebration at the Yankees' end of the field. The Yankees closing pitcher was Mariano Rivera, who had not blown a save in 25 games. But, miraculously, a Diamondback named Louis Gonzalez hit what has since been described as a "bloop single," and the Diamondbacks won. My husband and I and my 8 and 10 year old kids were watching together on the sofa in the family room, and we all jumped to our feet and started cheering. It's a treasured memory, and I've viewed baseball much more kindly since then.

message 3182: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Its more fun when you watch a match with the family and friends, we don't have such thing around here, my two little sisters cheer for Madrid football team, but they never really watched a whole game!
I would rather watch a movie about a ball team than watching an actual game ..

message 3183: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Well I am now in the disappointed in cancelled concert boat :( hubby and I were going to go to North Carolina to see Nickleback. LifeHouse is touring with them which is who I mostly wanted to see. Nickleback just released a statement saying they have to cancel the rest of the North American tour for 2015 due to the lead singer having an operable cyst on his vocal cord :( hope he gets better soon and it isn't too bad. Still sucks though. Love seeing LifeHouse in concert.

message 3184: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Bummer Stephanie :( Will it be rescheduled?

message 3185: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie They didn't talk about rescheduling :( just that they hope to pick up with the tour in Europe. I think that leg is late this year or starts next year. They gave info how to get tickets refunded though. I emailed my hubby to let him know. I've seen both bands before in concert but LifeHouse is definitely my favorite of the two. Sigh.

message 3186: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Is Lifehouse a popular band in the US? I think they scored one or two hits here 10-15 years ago or so, but never heard anything of them since.

message 3187: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I would say they are popular here in the U.S. :-) they just released a new album in May :-) I didn't discover their music until 2001. The anthem for the Stanley cup commercials (hockey) was a song by them, Hanging by a Moment. My love of hockey led me to them, lol :-)

It seems though, whenever, they go on tour they are usually the opening band. I really think they would do well being a headliner. We went to an acoustic show they had in Council Bluffs, IA when we lived in Omaha, Nebraska. It was such a great show. The main floor was standing room only so we got their early and made sure we were right up against the stage. It will always be my favorite show of theirs :-)

message 3188: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I am so glad to see I am not the only person to like LifeHouse and Nickelback! My teenagers tease me that no one likes them anymore. Apparently, as is so often the case...They. Are. Wrong!

I'm sorry Stephanie.

message 3189: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I'm not a sports fan. Thankfully my husband isn't much of one either. LOL. But, living in the middle of the SEC (South Eastern Conference - College Football for those of you overseas), you can't escape it. The College I went to is one of the SEC schools and I wear shirts sometimes with that college name on it and then people try to talk to me about how the teams are doing. And I don't really care. LOL. I like for them to win, but I don't follow any sports regularly.

@Peggy, I was kind of wondering the same thing about Lifehouse. I remember liking them when I was in high school, but I can't remember hearing anything from them in a long time. But that may be because I don't listen to much pop anymore... mainly rock and audiobooks. LOL.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Stephanie wrote: "Well I am now in the disappointed in cancelled concert boat :( hubby and I were going to go to North Carolina to see Nickleback. LifeHouse is touring with them which is who I mostly wanted to see. ..."

That's really disappointing Stephanie! :( Fingers crossed that they will reschedule at some point in the future.

message 3191: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yay, Kandice!!!!!!
I haven't listened much to Nickleback's newest album though. I think the last album I bought of theirs was Dark Horse? Their songs are so catchy it's hard not to like them :)
With LifeHouse, I can't get enough of Jason Wade's voice, lol! Their songs are just amazing :-)

message 3192: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Hanging by a moment is the only song I know. I know they had another one high in the charts here, but I can't remember what it is right now. Same with Nickelback actually, I don't hear so much of them anymore, though they were quite popular 10-15 years ago. I don't listen to radio much either, so I might have missed it.

Oh, just checked with bf (he has to listen to the radio every day at work) and he says Lifehouse is indeed just the two songs years ago, but Nickelback has had some more popular songs over the years.

message 3193: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I still like Nickelback, but I didn't realize they had a new album out. I really don't listen the radio much anymore. My commute is for audiobooks, the other times I'm in my car I listen to SiriusXM... mainly Octane (hard rock music) and Lithium (90's alternative rock). If I'm listening to music at work it is usually on my Pandora app... I usually go to Mumford & Sons Radio, or whatever rock band I'm in the mood for (lately that has been Thousand Foot Krutch). At work I either need music to calm me down (Mumford) or wake me up (rock).

message 3194: by Stephanie (last edited Jun 23, 2015 12:44PM) (new)

Stephanie Oh yes, LifeHouse had an album in 2009/2010? They went on tour with Chris Daughtry. Saw them in Yakima, Washington. My friend got a speeding ticket on the way to the concert, oops. I don't think many of their songs from that album went very far though. I still loved it :)
I've only heard one song off Nickleback's newest album. The song is Revolution. Sounds a lot like all their other songs but still catchy :)

Do albums that get released here in the U.S. get released where ya'll are at overseas?

message 3195: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I mostly listen to the radio in the car. We leave the radio on for the dog though :) he tends to bark at people that come near the door, which is a good thing :)

message 3196: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Ugh! I just remember they had an album come out in 2011/2012..Almeria..I think there was only one song that was on the radio from that album...I'm a bad LifeHouse fan to have forgotten that..oops :)

message 3197: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm pretty sure they are released here too Stephanie, definitely for bands that are known here too, no matter if they're not that big anymore.

I just googled nickleback and found that they play in Amsterdam in November, in a venue that fits 17.000 people. Not sold out yet, but to play there must mean lots of people still like them.

message 3198: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Well that's cool, Peggy :) hopefully Chad Kroeger's vocal chords are healed by then :)

The furthest out of the country I have traveled is Canada. I've only been to British Columbia in Canada :)

message 3199: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Canada and especially BC are so high on my wishlist! This year's destination was going to be either Cuba or Canada.

Cuba will be the 36th country my bf and I will visit together.

message 3200: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Wow! That is so cool! I've only been to Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, and the Bahamas
