Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Sounds like you have had quite a week Janice!

message 3102: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yay! Good that they paid for the office carpeting :)

message 3103: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments That's bad, Janice. Hopefully it's all set now, and no more water will leak. Let's think positive.

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother. It's hard to see them getting old, isn't it?

My kid and I had a little picnic in the park today. The weather has been so nasty here in central PA, that this is the first get out we did since they finished school.

message 3104: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Are you guys getting any of the weather remnants of tropical depression Bill, Sandra? We are under a severe thunderstorm watch here in central VA..I hate storms :(
They don't bother the dog at all though, lol! He hears the thunder and just looks out the window.

message 3105: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Right now is only cloudy here, but we are expecting heavy rain and T-storm in an hour or two. :(

He have had showers, rain or t-storms almost every day in the last 10 days.

message 3106: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yuck :(
I'm ready for fall. I wouldn't mind spring/summer so much if there wasn't severe weather :)

message 3107: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Woooow a storm !!
I wonder how that looks like .. There was only 1 storm down here and it was more than 15 years ago.. I was a kid so i don't really remember any of it !
Other than that i've seen dust storm .. But that would only cause breathing and lungs problems .. I wish to see some heavy rain the coming winter ..

message 3108: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Stay safe over there in the US!

It's interesting how different weather is all over the world. It seems strange that there are places without storms because they are so common here. On the other side, I cannot imagine 45 degree temperature or sand storms.

message 3109: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments This whole weekend and also part of last week has been so bad weatherwise. Grey, cloudy, windy, not even 20C. You would think you could sit outside when it's almost July, but no. It feels more like autumn. Tomorrow is only going to be 16! I'm wearing a sweater and drinking tea!

Is this the time I mention it's going to be 14 tomorrow in the middle of winter?

message 3111: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments See! It doesn't make sense! Our summer and your winter temperatures are the same.

What is normal for this time of year in Canberra Rusalka?

message 3112: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments About 14-12. Cold cold days in winter get down to 7-10 (more so in July and August), but they are rare.

Our winters are amazing by European standards I have been assured, as although it's 12 degrees, it's blue sky and loads of sun. The amount of times I had Europeans outside my window lapping the sun up like lizards in winter was amazing. In jumpers of course, but they were saying they just don't see the sun for 3 months! I cannot get my head around that.

message 3113: by Peggy (last edited Jun 21, 2015 05:31AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments True! Our winters do have a few nice and sunny days with blue skies, but then temperatures are also around 0, so no warmth from the sun at all. When our winter days are 10 or 12 degrees, they are grey and rainy.

edit: that's why we (well, I at least) also crave for summer and NEED sunny days to feel better and complain when the weather disappoints and we still can't soak up some sun.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments So this is today, at another protest than I was at. About dogs. I'm leaving that alone, and I love dogs. But. Perfect Canberran winter day. Outside Parliament House, which is 10 mins down the road from my place

message 3116: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Nope, except for the coat and hat that looks nothing like our winter ;-)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments It was 13 today.
I must say I do love our blue skies.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Stephanie wrote: "Very pretty picture, Rusalka :-)"

We've had problems with the Greyhound industry in Aus recently. So this is why these guys were at Parli House today.

So for you guys overseas, this is our Houses of Parliament, so like our version of the Capitol or Westminster.

message 3120: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Pretty modern construction.
And beautiful blue sky!

message 3121: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I hope the problems get resolved :) we have a greyhound (at least what looks like a greyhound) in our apartment complex. It is sooooo skinny you can see its ribs :( I know a lot of greyhounds look that way but it always breaks my heart :(

message 3122: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Jun 21, 2015 07:02AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments It's built into a hill, and has lawn on top of the building (where you know, people are making laws). When I was a kid you used to roll down the hill. Like lie down on your side and push until you hit the flats before the road.

When I was a teenager, we used to freeze ice into the polystyrene boxes veggies came in and rode them down the hill. So fricking fast!

message 3123: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Yeah... not likely. Not going to give specifics here (google will be enlightening if you wish). But so many issues. But racing animals for human pleasure isn't on in my personal opinion so you know, no sympathy here.

Greyhounds are a skinny breed naturally. It does worry me, but the health risks for them being "meatier" aren't great either.

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments We got back from our trip late last night. We stayed in Cape Coral, FL. My brother's graduation went well and we are happy for him. The place we stayed had a pool, which my kids loved. It was directly on the canal so my husband and I went kayaking one evening and saw a wild dolphin. It was fun, but too short. We detoured on the way home and went to the marine aquarium in Clearwater, FL. This is the home of Hope and Winter which are the dolphins from the movie Dolphin Tale. My kids loved the movies and were really excited. Here is the website: www.seewinter.com

Janice I am sorry you are having the issues at your apartment. We had something similar happen to us once in an apartment. It forever smelled musty afterwards, but they didn't clean our carpets like yours did. Hopefully, that will fix the problem.

message 3125: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Peggy: It's been about 50 degrees now, and you do feel like melting if you're not opening the AC ! Even after the shower, when you get out you feel like you didn't shower at all, and if luck is not by your side you just might be showering in a boiling water -ok that was exaggerating .. But it is really hot shower -

Rusalka: that picture looks so lovely .. I find it a little bit strange to wear heavy jackets while its sunny ;P

message 3126: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I will google it, Rusalka :)
Amanda, how cool! I just recorded Dolphin Tale 2 the other night :) I've seen the first one and loved it :) Dolphins are so cool!
Anyone remember the show Sea Quest DSV? I don't know if it aired out of the states or not. The show had Jonathan Brandis (from the neverending story 2) and they had a dolphin that could talk through radio frequency or something like that. Anyways, I thought the show was entertaining :)

message 3127: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Ohhh

Jonathan Brandis.

So not my type now I am older and wiser. But at 12 years old, he was the first boy to have a poster on my wall. And by "A" I mean "many".

She's a deceptive beast here in Canberra, it was -5 last night. So I needed a jumper out at 12pm at my rally. If this lady was nearer 8am, beanies and snow jackets were totally appropriate. I was sleeping. No sleep respecting person gets up while it is that cold.

message 3129: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I had many posters as well, Rusalka :)
I will admit..I had to look up what a jumper is :p
I've heard the term before but didn't know what it meant, lol :)

message 3130: by Amanda (Mandy) (new)

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments @Stephanie: Hope is in the second movie and not the first. I found out the movie isn't actually what happened, but Winter losing her tail and the prosthetics are true. It was a neat place.

I used to love Sea Quest and I too had a crush on Jonathon Brandis.

CFDeeDee I'm so exhausted .. Its 3:26am .. And i didn't sleep yet .. Gotta wake up after 4 hours :'(
I just wanna sleep .. But I guess that is a lot to ask for !!

message 3134: by Susan (new)

Susan Guard | 695 comments Gotta say, 14 degrees is sounding good to me right now. We're starting our annual triple digit heat wave. Its 104 F here which I think is 40 C if I did the math correctly. Too hot to do much. I think I need something to read that has a snowstorm or iceberg in it.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I suggest Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors, Susan. I remember reading it during a summer many years ago (around 20) and it made me feel I was freezing. It made me feel like starving too.

Why is that, CFDeeDee? Insomnia? Too much work to do?

message 3138: by Amanda (Mandy) (new)

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments Our temperatures were above 100 today and humid. It is too hot for the kids to be outside so they are driving us batty. We went to the movies today to escape the heat and celebrate Father's Day.

message 3139: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) It got up to 100 F today, but we have dry heat, I will take the heat over humidity at anytime :-)

message 3140: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie It was hot and humid again here in central VA. I think we are supposed to be in the 90 degree F range all week :(
I'm over it..I want cooler weather :)

message 3141: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Stephanie, it is only June, LOL!

message 3142: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Thanks Mariab ..

@Sandra: I went pooling at 8 PM and didn't get out till 9 or something, and then I went to check on the gym, I kept doing exercises till 11 PM, wen't to Mac - Awesome diet I know XP -
I got back home around 12:30 am, worked a little on my story, took a shower, and then it was Sohor time "which means a meal that you eat before dawn".
I thought if I slept at 12:30 am I won't wake up till morning, so I had to stay awake.
That sounds like a nice book btw, I'll have a look at it.

You guys are reminding me how hot it is outside .. Even though I'm in my room and the AC is on, but reading how hot the weather might be is only making me feel hot ! Or is it only me?!

message 3143: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie @ Berit, don't remind me, lol :-) I would like to fast forward to at least the end of August because we are going to see LifeHouse (my favorite band) and Nickleback but I'm most excited for LifeHouse :-)

@CFDeeDee I think reading about heat can make one feel it :) back in my hometown in Washington State, they are supposed to hit 106 degrees F this week. Theirs is a dry heat, but still, that's just too hot :(

message 3144: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments CFDeeDee, is that because of Ramadan? If so, how many meals do you eat during the night? One at sunset and before sunrise? Haven't heard of eating so late at night.

message 3145: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I'm thinking this guy has the right idea :-)

dog photo dog1.gif

message 3146: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Nooo! You're making me even colder :(

message 3147: by Tasha (new)

Tasha haha, cute!

message 3148: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Stephanie: we would get 106F at night perhaps, but still it is hot .. But during day time it would be much more than that !! I should check how much exactly some day.
I laughed more than what I should at that picture :P so funny

Rusalka: Yes it is Ramadan :D you could have another meal between those two, but actually you'll feel so full during the first meal which is at sunset .. Its basically to remind us of the poor people who can't find a single meal all day long ..
And the eating habit would change a lot when Ramadan is over

message 3149: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Sorry, Rusalka! I will trade you some of your cold weather for our hot weather :-) wouldn't that be awesome if we could do that ?!?

Oh my goodness, CFDeeDee! That is so hot for night time :( hope it cools down there soon! How cold does it get where you are?

message 3150: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Thanks for explaining. I knew it was Ramadan, but wasn't sure if that was something you follow/observe. I wasn't sure if there were restrictions on how many meals you could have at night or not. I have learnt something tonight!

Apparently there has been a huge solar flare again, so Aurora Australis should be visible from here again (after I missed it a few months ago). Not sure if that means for you guys up north the Northern Lights will be going berko for the next 36 hours as well. I'm debating going outside for a look see, but it's 1.5C so working myself up to it.
