Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments PEGGY!!!! Yayyyy! I am so happy (and a bit jealous) that you're all done. Congratulations!

Well since you're all done and have too much time on your hands and not sure what to do with it, I guess you can help out with mine. :p

message 3053: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Ha Pragya, I think I'm going to take a break from dissertations for a bit ;-) But no worries, you can do it too!

It feels weird, all I did for the last months was working on the dissertation. What am I supposed to do next?! :P

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments There is a little rattling noise coming from the ceiling in my office. A vibration from the air conditioner. I'm debating if I stand on the desk if I can reach the ceiling... Maybe if I can hit it, the noise will stop. It is driving me batty!

Oh, blessed temporary relief! The A/C just kicked off so it stopped... at least until the A/C cycles on again. Then I may be caught standing on top of my desk!

Sarah | 18550 comments Congrats Peggy. Time for doing some reading of your choosing I guess! And you've got your holiday to get all excited about. How long are you away for?

message 3059: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Ah yes, those little noises can be so annoying!

We'll be gone for 17 days Sarah. I will miss you guys, we won't have any (or hardly any) internet access while we're there.

message 3060: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It is done! Dissertation sent out, nothing I can do about it anymore. I'm going to follow your advice and not do anything dissertation-related until my holiday next week.

message 3061: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Great, Peggy! You are free! Take a long bath, drink a good wine, take a nap, read, dance, go for a body-painting work, or whatever you have been procrastinating because of the Dissertation!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments ~~~ WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!! ~~~

Go and enjoy the day by lying in the sun with a book and a big European beer or 6 I say!

They have a thing here at my uni where all your fellow students, academic advisors (other academics), your supervisor and panel, and anyone else in the office (academics and administrators) walk you to the submissions office to hand it in, and then march you quick smart to the pub.

message 3063: by Peggy (last edited Jun 18, 2015 05:50AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Wouldn't be much fun lying in the sun today, I think I would have to wear a sweater and hold on to something to avoid being blown away.

The thing at your uni sounds great! Especially the pub part ;-) I am going for coffee and cake with some colleagues in a few minutes.

Camilla | 2099 comments Congratulations Peggy! What an achievement! I'm really happy for you (and a bit jealous - I hope I would be able to do that with my master's thesis too).

message 3070: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments What's your masters in Camilla?

message 3071: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2099 comments Sarah wrote: "What's your masters in Camilla?"

I'm a psychology major. In my thesis I collected data about feelings of inauthenticity in friendship in 6th- and 9th-graders and its effect on psychological well-being. Don't have that much left to do, mainly the discussion part and some tweaking of the introduction, but it seems to take forever, especially since I'm also working.

message 3072: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Cool. Wow there's loads of psychology related bods in this group!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Interesting Camilla! I know the feeling, when you've been working on something for a long time it takes a lot of effort to get those final things done.

message 3086: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee I really do Tasha .. And right now i'm just trying to write a story of my own, a friend of mine offered me to do the editing, and then she just quit it saying that "I'm only waisting my time." So I guess that means I got no editor !

She's just putting so much pressure on both of us !

I hope she stops fighting soon :D

message 3087: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Are you writing something to get published?

We were just informed that the foo fighters concert will not be rescheduled. Damn :( I don't get it and I'm disappointed, I really thought it would.

Sorry to hear the bad news about the concert Peggy :( I don't understand it either, you really would think that a concert in a venue as big as Wembley would be rescheduled. It's what normally happens. Maybe they couldn't find time in their schedules to rearrange or maybe Wembley could not fit them in at any other time due to other concerts and things? Not much comfort for you and your boyfriend though! :(

message 3089: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I think that must be the reason too Lisa. And I understand that it won't fit in the next two or three months, but I'm sure many people would be happy to keep their tickets for 6 months or even a year. Ah well..

message 3090: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I'm sorry, Peggy. I hope you can see them in other opportunity.

message 3091: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That is a bummer.

message 3092: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee I don't think so Peggy, its just something for me for fun !! And I thought maybe when i'm done writing it i'll print it out as a book with a hard cover .. When she offered the help I thought she would only fix the grammar and the spellings !
I'm trying so hard not to let her words to be in the story.

Sorry to hear about the concert .. Wish they just postponed it to another day

message 3093: by Tasha (new)

Tasha that stinks Peggy. :(

message 3094: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Talking of stinks...

It's been a tough week for me. On top of the stress from seeing how much my mom has deteriorated in 6 weeks, and the fun and games I call work, there was a hot water tank that burst two floors above me while I was visiting my parents last weekend. It leaked down onto the floor where my office chair sits (thank goodness it didn't drip onto my computer).

On Monday, when I stepped into a puddle on my chair mat, I thought Cleo had peed. The mat is cracked in places and the moisture seeped through and into the carpet. I tried to clean it up the best I could and used deodorizers. But the next morning, the rug looked really wet again. So I mopped up more. It didn't smell like cat pee though. It smelled musty, moldy, like wet dirty socks and it was enough to gag me - and I had to work in it. I finally realized that Cleo couldn't have been the culprit. I looked up and there was a water stain on the ceiling. It was Wednesday when maintenance came. He said the water stain had been there before. I said it was new. It was cool to the touch whereas the dry areas around it were not, indicating that it was still damp. He disagreed. All he did was confirm the incident on the weekend with the hot water tank two floors directly above me.

While he was there, I complained again about the dishwasher and the windows. He fixed the windows and came back on Thursday with a new dishwasher. (YEAH!) I told him I was really concerned about the stink in my office and that the carpet was still wet. He couldn't smell anything. I told him that he was either bullshitting me or his sense of smell was gone. He said, "But it was clean water!" I replied, "Maybe it was right out of the hot water tank, but after running down two stories through the walls of a 20 year old building, it's no longer clean." He called and arranged for the carpet to be cleaned. That was done yesterday.

The carpet was wet and stinking for 5 days. I hope it didn't seep into the underlay. The carpet cleaner said that once the carpet is dry, the smell will go away, unless it's gone into the underlay. If that's the case, my desk will have to be taken apart, the carpet pulled out, and the underlay dealt with. Just the thoughts of taking my desk apart is enough to freak me out. That's a major job, not to mention how much it will disrupt my work.

Sorry, this has been a long diatribe. But one little thing. I had the carpet cleaner do the rest of the carpets since he was here and I was going to get them done anyway. While he was working, I was sitting on the couch reading. We started chatting and I discovered that he is my daughter-in-law's first cousin!

message 3095: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oh my goodness, Janice! I hope the apartment took care of the carpet cleaning and that you didn't have to pay for it. They sound like our maintenance people at our old place :(
Hopefully this next week will be a better one :)

message 3096: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments They paid for the carpet cleaning in the office. I paid for the rest of the apartment.

message 3097: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Woow Janice having a leak is a bad thing .. When a carpet gets wet you just need to take it out to dry .. If you keep it inside it'll smell worse than a wet sock!

Put a bucket on your chair so if it is still leaking it'll drip drip drip inside the bucket and save you from a bad smell again !

message 3098: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments It's wall to wall carpet that's fixed in place, so no taking it outside. :)

My chair must have gotten wet too, cause my butt felt a bit damp after sitting in it all day. If the chair mat hadn't been cracked, the water would have been pretty much contained. I'll be buying a new mat today.

message 3099: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Hard luck to you ..

message 3100: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That sounds horrible Janice! Weird that the guy was so stubborn. Hope it all gets fixed!
