Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm having a me-day today! It's going to be 32C which is no weather for working ;-) There's not much I can do about my dissertation right now anyway, the final part is with my supervisors for feedback. So, I decided to take the day off, slept until 9.15, and do nothing today except sit on my balcony (which thankfully is in the shadows until 5pm or so - something I usually complain about ;-)), read, do some puzzles, prepare for Cuba, crochet, or whatever else I feel like.

I'm all ready in my shorts, tanktop, and flip-flops, but with only 18C right now and no sunshine on the balcony I might have been a bit too eager to get this day started ;-)

Sarah | 18550 comments It's supposed to be warm here today but I think it's going to be cloudy all day. Yesterday was glorious and I enjoyed a pint of beer in the pub garden before heading back to the boat. Enjoy your day off Peggy.

message 2803: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments 32C can be the most divine. Except for if humidity is a factor. That's why in Austin, 27C is pretty much closest to perfect here.

We're having such a mild and rainy spring. Because of El Niño.

message 2804: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Enjoy your day Peggy!! It sounds perfect. :)

Yesterday was my daughter's 9th bday and we went up to NYC to the American Girl store. She loves that place. We had lunch and shopped a bit. It was a fun time, exhausting but fun.

We've been having a rainy week but it did hold off for our time in NY!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Enjoy, Peggy! You deserve a break after working so hard, and it will probably refresh you and make little easier the last days of your dissertation work.

message 2806: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Enjoy your day, Peggy!!
Sounds like you and your daughter had a great day, Tasha :-)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Have a great day, Peggy.

I'll be working in an air-conditioned office today, so I'll be keeping cool. :)

message 2808: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments The lady from the insurance company got back with me this morning through text message. She said the home policy doesn't cost anything to get a copy of and she has put in a request for it, but it will take two weeks to come in. I asked why it took so long and she said because it has to come from their home office. I asked why the process couldn't be expedited through email and her response was "that's not the way they do things." I'm sorry, but that is just stupid in my opinion.

I haven't had a chance to do any more because I've been in a first aid/CPR certification class all day. Maybe my husband can locate a copy of the policy when he gets back home Sunday. I'm going to try to not worry about it any more until then.

We've had perfect weather here this week. Slightly cloudy with unusually mild temps hovering right around 80F (27C according to google) with a nice breeze and the humidity not out of this world high. Starting today it is turning into a normal Mississippi summer though, temps in the mid 90's F, high humidity, and blistering sun.

message 2809: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie That lady sounds like an idiot :( I hope your hubby is able to find a copy faster! Sounds like their customer service sucks!!
Hope you are able to have a relaxing weekend, KimeyDiann!!

Sarah | 18550 comments I know some of us like frogs and I saw this on Facebook about Alaskan Wood Frogs - so cute.
During the cold winters, the Alaskan Wood Frog becomes a frog-shaped block of ice. It stops breathing, and its heart stops beating. When Spring arrives the frog thaws and returns to normal going along its merry way.

message 2816: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Ive seen that before on fb. It's so cute! It turned into a science lesson for my daughter.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments Cutey!! Lexx can't work out how his cells don't explode in the freezing, which to be fair, I am now too since he mentioned it. Clever little super frog-block.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments So interesting!

message 2819: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments OMG! The cops just arrested a guy in a wheelchair right outside my apartment. They pulled two almost empty bottles of booze from his wheelchair after they got him into the police car. That gives drunk driving a whole new perspective.

message 2820: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4529 comments Never a dull moment In your neighborhood, Janice. Was it the drunk driving or speeding?

message 2821: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I know! LOL! I don't know for sure. I just saw the arrest. The business across from me was having a "fit for life" fund raiser in the parking lot. They had hamburgers, a garage sale and a jumping castle (or whatever they call that thing where the kids crawl in and jump). I noticed a fellow with a motorized wheelchair over there and a police officer. I went into my office and looked out - there were three cruisers with lights flashing and they were arresting a second fellow in wheelchair. So whether it was drunk driving, or he was harassing the people at the hamburger stand, I don't know. Wild!

Stephanie I got accepted into a certificate program through Syracuse University :) it is called The Professional Skills track. It is a free online program for veterans and their spouses. Veterans had to have served post 9/11 :) I will basically be learning skills in order to better myself with programs such as word, excel, etc. I don't know much more about it but will be learning that eventually :) the program doesn't start until July. I also have a job interview next week so we shall see how it goes :)

message 2826: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments That's great news, Stephanie on both the training and the job interview. Good luck.

message 2827: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Congrats Stephanie!

Janice, good thing you aren't moving (yet). It would probably be so dull if you moved over into that other place!

message 2834: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4529 comments Thats great news Stephanie. Where do you live? Had you gone to a One Stop Career Center? They're all over the U.S. and offer priority services to vets and their spouses, including funding for training. I work out of an office in Hicksville NY.

message 2835: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thanks, Mariab and Roz :)
We live in Virginia :) haven't been to a career center yet. I found out about the Syracuse classes through a family member :) most of the jobs I've applied to have been through job sites. I've been able to take my time to find the right job for me, which has been a huge blessing :) once I'm done with the classes, I'm hoping to get more into a human resources type of job. I would love to be able to work with dogs but places seem to want experience :( oh well. I have plenty of experience doing office work/reception.

message 2836: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4529 comments You should really try going to your nearest One Stop and check out what they have to offer. It costs nothing to register and if you are looking for training they may be able to pay for it (so you don't have to). They'll also help you with resume development, practice interviews, etc. job searching, job leads too.

message 2837: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thanks, Roz! I will check into them :)

Congrats to your son! How old is he? My daughter acts (my son did too for a bit) so I know how exciting that is.

Pfew, I didn't read it all but how can he be so ignorant?

message 2843: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Sorry buster but gotta take criticism. There will always be 1 star ratings. Deal with it or practice flipping burgers

message 2844: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm sure he lost many potential readers with this.

message 2845: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments He's cemented himself on my "halfback flankers" shelf for this. Funny thing is, if he had left it alone, no one would have noticed.

message 2846: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Wow, it's like a train wreck. I stopped reading after the first page but couldn't pull myself away. The guy sounds totally insane. I agree, he probably lost so many more readers from his behavoir than that 1 star review. ugh.

message 2847: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I always figure the most honest reviews are the 2,3,4 star ratings. Toss out the 1,5. They are the love hate ratings.

message 2848: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Blimey! He certainly doesn't take too kindly to criticism! You would think he would realise that everyone has different tastes and opinions and his book is not going to be universally liked by all. I agree that his reaction has probably put a lot of people off reading his work now. He has harmed himself more than the 1 star review probably would have done.

message 2849: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie That guy...what a piece of work. Sad, really. If he can't take criticism then he shouldn't be an author.

we have bunnies in the neighborhood :) saw one hopping away into the bushes by the lake this morning. Blake was pretty excited about it :) we have seen 3 total so far since living here:)

message 2850: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments wow. I stopped myself reading on. he's just digging an even bigger hold for himself. I bet Harry Potter (which the book was compared to) had a 1star rating somewhere along the line.
