Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Guess you could say those two love birds had a bond which could not be broken

I remember when my best friend moved to California I was 11 or 12. It sucked

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Lisa, I think they did still have the mummy ride, but we didn't get to ride it. I actually forgot about it till I read your post.

@Tasha, yes, we rode The Hogwarts Express from Diagon Alley at Universal Studios to Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure. I even got to walk through the wall to get to platform 9 3/4.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I moved when I was 8 too, and I remember the last day of school crying my eyes out with my best friend. It was horrible.
This same daughter had a few hard days 2 weeks ago too, when she knew her music teacher was retiring. She loves that teacher (all my kids do, she is fantastic), and she cried so much... We want them to be sensitive and tender, and then, at these moments we would prefer they to be a little more impervious...

@Kimey, Great pictures. Looks like a great place to visit. I'll put it in my list. :)

I'm curious about how they got to the hospital. Did they drive themselves? Would have been hard getting in and out of the car, tho.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Love the pics, KimeyD. Very cool seeing the Harry Potter sets.

Sarah, I can relate about dislike of costumes. I was usually mistrustful or frightened by Santas, clowns, or anyone in costumes that concealed their authentic features. Still retain some of that feeling, depending on context, but "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" : )

Janice, sounds kind of stressful having a landlord who is also a client and is installing a special drop-box outside your apartment for work. You have good instincts, trust them. Glad you're feeling better.

Travis, you are so bad ; 0

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Thanks for posting the pictures KimeyDiann. Yay, I'm glad The Mummy ride is still there. One of my other favourites was the Jaws ride but I think that has gone now. Did you go on The Incredible Hulk rollercoaster?

message 2763: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments I've been waiting to read that article all day, Travis. I assumed it wasn't safe for work. It did say they had to call emergency services, so that solves the driving question.

We have a friend who is an Emergency doctor. She has great stories of what comes in. My favourite one was the guy on Valentine's Day who decided to surprise his girlfriend. He got a red rose and inserted it into a particularly delicate part of himself. Problem was he forgot roses have thorns, that means it went in okay, but the thorns caught as he was trying to get it out. Wasn't an emergency case though, so the guy had to sit there for a while thinking about what he had done before he was treated.

Seriously though, and I realise I am not the standard kind of girl. But if you want to impress or surprise a girl, I'm not really sure inserting a rose into your penis is the right way of going about it. But you know, what ever.

message 2764: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments LOL Rusalka. I'm sure all guys (Travis?) are wincing in pain when reading that story. It can't have been easy to get it in in the first place, can it?

... I seriously wonder what kind of people come up with such ideas.

message 2765: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Not very smart ones, lol :-)

message 2766: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

message 2768: by Travis (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "Morons. My wife always tells me if I want to do something sexy then wash the dishes or sweep the floor"

I totally agree!

The rose idea is a man idea. I don't think any woman would like to see something like that. Let alone find it sexy. A man would love to see a woman with a beer holder between her boobs, though.

message 2772: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Thanks! I have way over 100 pictures of the trip alone I really need to backup somewhere so I don't lose them.
Does anyone have any recommendations for backing up photos online? I have thousands of pictures I really would hate to lose.

Jaws is gone. I think it was actually taken out to make room for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Yes, we rode The Hulk a couple of times! And rode Rip Ride Rockit 4 or 5 times. Transformers, Spiderman, both of the Dragon Challenge coasters (I think used to be called dueling dragons or something similar)... there were so many great rides!

Wow, Rusalka! I'm a girl and I'm even cringing at that story!

Here's one for Travis:

message 2774: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments And here's one for the rest of us. Put the roses in a vase, and grab the laundry. :)

message 2775: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments that's a good one, Janice!

message 2776: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments John Deere colours. As my partner drives a tractor I have had to learn the colours of the different makes, in particular the vintage ones.

That's sounds painful Rusalka. My sister in law is an ambulance technician and I too have heard some classic stories.

It's really hot here today. Too hot in the boat, too hot in the sun outside. Not got much done today but be on gr and read. so a nice relaxed day.

message 2777: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I meant the first picture in the last post.
The second one... you know... too fine specimen for my taste. I'd rather take a less sophisticated one.

Yes, Dragons Challenge was once called Duelling Dragons. I rode both of them too. Loved them both but Ice was my favourite (which I think is now called Hungarian Horntail). I agree, there are so many great rides there, although it sounds like there is a lot of new stuff since I last went several years ago.

message 2780: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I love that roller coaster as well!! It was Dueling Dragons when I went (pre-HP) and I think I rode the fire dragon :)
Jaws is gone??? Sad :( that ride was a lot of fun :) but yeah I imagine they would have had to lose something to make Harry Potter world. I'm going to get back there someday :)

message 2781: by Laura (new)

Laura | 12 comments Hi guys, just finding my bearings around the group after joining a few days ago. Hello from lovely Liverpool (the UK one!) Hope you're all having a good day. I'm heading off on a 4 hour car journey and have 90-something pages of my book left so will get that finished in no time (I'm not driving).

Kimeydiann - you should check out Dropbox. It's an online cloud where you can store pictures, but also share them to by sending links so family and friends can follow your holiday/travels. It's free for a small amount of space (probably enough for 500 images maybe) but you can pay a subscription fee to get more storage space.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Hi Laura! You're so lucky to be able to read in a car. I get nauseous if I look anywhere other than straight ahead. Are you going somewhere nice?

message 2783: by Laura (new)

Laura | 12 comments Hi Peggy. I am really lucky, I can read no problem in the car, day or night. I can read a whole book in a return journey. My boyfriend and I are travelling to Devon for a family wedding tomorrow, it's in a cute little pub/hotel and the weather is looking like it will be good!

message 2784: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments Yeah... Jaws was a classic...

message 2785: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Hi Laura and welcome! Thanks for the advice about dropbox. I forgot about them.

We finally heard back from the insurance company about payment for the damages at my mother-in-law's house... the water heater busted a flooded her house a couple of weeks ago... well, the insurance company said it is not a covered event and basically we are SOL. They aren't going to pay anything.

I'm sick. So is my husband. His mother doesn't have enough money to pay for the repairs that are needed and neither do we. The big vacation we just took we couldn't really afford, but we went despite our better judgments.

My husband can't find a copy of the insurance policy to see if it is possible for us to argue with them so I just called to request a copy of it. All three people that I talked to said it has to be formally requested, costs $5 to get a copy, and can take 2-3 weeks. Am I mistaken about this being the year 2015? We are still in the digital age, right? How can it be that complicated to get an unofficial copy of some paperwork? It was less complicated to get a copy of my birth certificate from the state a few years ago!

I'm sorry, rant over... I'm just so upset right now and needed to vent a little. Sorry.

message 2786: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oh my gosh, KimeyDiann, that is so crummy of the insurance company! I mean when things happen isn't this why we have insurance?? I would think that the person that has the insurance should be able to receive a copy of the coverage policy via email. Sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one or something..ugh!!
I hope there is something that ya'll can do :)

message 2787: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) It is absolutely crazy what insurance does not cover, sometimes it's like what is the point. In California we have to have separate earthquake insurance in order for anything caused by an earthquake to count, and have to sign extensive documentation stating we understand our homeowners insurance does not cover earthquakes. However in order to get insurance I had to get something put on my gas in order for the gas to shut off during an earthquake so my house wouldn't burn down, because they would have to cover that ;-)

message 2788: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh no KimeyDiann :( it always feels like insurance companies try to make money off every little thing. I hope you'll find a solution and will at least get part of it back. Does the insurance give a reason why this is not covered?

Have fun at the wedding Laura! Funny, a friend of mine is now on her way to a wedding in England which takes place tomorrow, and I thought it was Devon too, but I'm not sure. German guy and British girl by any chance? ;-)

message 2789: by Laura (new)

Laura | 12 comments Arh, no. Two Devonians. Wouldn't that have been weird if it was the same one!

message 2790: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's why I just had to ask. Imagine!

message 2791: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Berit, that is how flood insurance is here. It is a separate policy and you have to sign that you are aware of that on your regular policy.

As far as why they aren't paying, they basically said they will only pay for fire, lightening, explosions, wind damage, hail damage, riots, smoke, sinkholes, and aircrafts & vehicles (whatever that means... if they crash into the house I guess). That pretty much excludes all of the less catastrophic things that you need homeowner's insurance for. I really don't think we will be able to argue with them based on that list in the letter, but I want to see the actual policy before I admit defeat.

We will be changing her homeowner's insurance as soon as possible though. She's had this policy forever and while it is inexpensive, it also appears to be a money pit for all of the good it is doing

message 2793: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I'm really sorry of hear that, Kimey. That's the way they make money. You pay, they don't cover. There's not mystery.
I hope you find a painless solution soon.

message 2794: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We have trouble with wind damage. Not tornados or hurricanes we just get a lot of wind usually have to pay out of your pocket

You should go to the Bureau for Consumer Protection next to you.
Companys cannot deny a copy from a insurance contract neither take so long to privide one

Kandice I'm just going to jump in being a new member and all. I think it could take days to read through the whole thread.

I LOVE the pictures of Universal. I live in Southern California, but ours is not as built up as the one in Orlando quite yet.

Tasha Sandra wrote: "My 7 year old daughter's best friend is moving to California next Saturday. She is here now for the last play date. Every time I see them, they are hugging each other. It's breaking my heart..."

That happened to my daughter when she was 7 too! My daughter had a best friend (at the time) move to texas. At their last meeting the mom (my friend) and I were doing all we could to keep it together bc we felt they really didn't realize yet the significance of the moving away from each other. It was heartbreaking! I feel for you, so sad! The good news is they have kept in touch thru skyping and occassional letters. Fortunately, they still have family in the area and have been back to visit a few times and we get to see them when they come. The two girls get right back in the grove of being special, close friends.
Oh but I feel for you! The parting is so sad. ((hugs))

Where can I get one of those thats house cleaning I understand. You know like when theres a suoer caked on pan that needs washing and I bring it out and use the pressure washer

message 2799: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments I agree with Mariab. It's a contract that both of you have agreed to. They can't withhold your access to it, as it's as much yours as it is theirs. Take it to consumers affairs or ombudsman or office of fair trading or what not.

Our insurance spends a lot of time trying not to cover things. I mean we are the land of flooding plains, ridiculous storms, and catastrophic bushfires. Half the country can be underwater while the other half on fire. But they seem to be regulated rather well so they seem to be made to pay out.

We have a tv show here in Aus called The Checkout. A comedy group here called The Chaser runs it, but before they were comedians, a lot of them were lawyers and it's all on consumer law and your rights. It's all Australian law, but it's worth a watch to see how ridiculous company claims are, and what your rights are in an entertaining way. I have no doubt they have covered insurance, so you could check it out and then see what applies to the States.

message 2800: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Insurance is supposed to be a safety net, but often there are big holes big enough to fall through. There was a recent case here of a family that went to Hawaii on holiday. The woman was 7 months pregnant and had approval from her doctor to travel. She went into premature labour and the baby was born in Hawaii. Because it was a preemie, there was a lengthy hospital stay. Their insurance claim was denied because the mother had a "pre-exisiting condition". I'm not sure how you can blame premature labour on a previous bladder infection. They took them to court and I'm not sure if the situation has been resolved yet.
