Are you on the Goodreads app? I'm on a desktop and it opens in a new window. If you're not on an app, it could be your browser settings disable pop-up windows.

I am on my laptop, maybe it's to do with the email I login with at GR and Amazon. Hmm, let's see.

Your very brave, Berit. If I did that I'd have over 5000+ on my TBR shelf. My brother quit counting when he packed up my books when he loaded me up down in Florida. I know that at least 10 more books were packed with books after he stopped counting.

I guess there is a reason, I had to buy 3 more large bookshelves (up to the ceiling) when I moved into my new home.

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Only going to add the books I have not read yet! Your book shelves sounds like my parents they have a whole library in their house:-) And it might not be happening today ;-)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Does anyone here speak Italian? I'm resuming my classes this week (by myself, not in an institute). In my first try two years ago I went through lesson 9. I hope to do it better this time.

I speak a little, now. I knew more when I was a kid, but when Grandma died no one really spoke it any more - except the cuss words, lol. She was the last in our large extended family that could speak Italian fluently.

message 2021: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie My hubby is 1/4 Italian :) he knows a little. I don't know any, lol! Good luck, Sandra! Are you using an app to learn? I tried the Duolingo app to relearn German but didn't keep us with it :(

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Good luck Sandra!

I ordered a Spanish course a few years ago. I think I got to lesson 3, it was too much to combine with 40 hours work. I really didn't feel like studying even more in the evenings...

Are you going to learn it for a reason or just for fun?

message 2025: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Janice wrote: "Enjoy your first night in your apartment, Stephanie."

Thank you :)

It was a successful first night:) had a hard time falling asleep, mostly because I couldn't get my brain to shut off ;) our heater works almost too well, lol! I guess that is a good thing though. I had to get up in the middle of the night to turn the heat down. First time for everything :)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Valarin to make the mind shut off. Herbal. Lets you sleep but when you wake up you can fully functional unlike some sleeping pills. Check it doesn't interact with medicine if you're on any, but I swear by it.

I've just had a fantastically really good week of sleep from it, and have stopped taking it again after that (don't really like dependencies on things so break it up). Lexx found it for me when I was up and down with sleep with my Dad. Here we can get it in the supermarket in the supplements bit. When I've got twenty billion things going on, it's perfect.

He is doing really well, Berit :) thank you for asking :) we have moved so many times, I think he is used to it now :)
The first thing we did when we got here was jump up and down! Being on the ground floor is awesome :) Blake can run around and be crazy and we don't have to worry about our neighbors getting mad below us :) Yay!!!!

Exactly, natural valium is what I know, which is why I say check any medication. Mixed with hops?! Interesting... To google!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Peggy, I love learning languages. I studied English in my childhood, and I learned Portuguese while living in Brazil (we lived 4 years in Rio de Janeiro). I studied French 2 years in high school, but I don't remember too much.

I started studying French and Italian two years ago because we were planning a trip to some cities in Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria (my husband speaks some German, so I didn't even try it), but I only went through lessons 7 and 9 before the trip.
But I discovered Italian comes really natural to me, so I think is a shame not to try again. I would like to learn the basics from now to the end of the summer and keep practicing reading often in Italian. This shouldn't be so hard since I already speak Spanish and Portuguese, and they are similar and related. They have MANY things different, though.
If this plan works, I'll probably try to do the same thing with French the following summer. I found French a little harder, though.

I'm trying to find a way of polish my English too. By now I can read it like I read Spanish or Portuguese, and I'm pretty competent communicating, but I still feel I'm talking in a foreign language. :) I still have many doubts, and make many ridiculous mistakes.

And who knows, perhaps in a few years when my kids grow up a little and I have more time for myself I could try something out of my comfort zone, like German.

Tasha Valerian is great stuff. My husband uses it a lot and I do too on occassion. It does stink though!

Congrats on finally being in your new place, Stephanie! That's so exciting. I remember when we moved in to our house now and all the new noises I had to get used to at night. We also went from forced air heat to baseboard heat...lots of pinging and banging noises!

Good luck Sandra with the language learning. I always think about relearning French (had it in HS and college) and also refreshing myself with Russian. Russian was my first language but now I stink at it. I can generally understand it but speaking it is another story these days.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Tasha wrote: "Sandra, did I miss what format you are using to learn Italian? I'm curious to know. thanks!"

So far I'm using a course on line that is thought to prepare the CILS and CELI exams. It distributes each lesson in grammar/verbs/vocabulary/communication/exercises contents. It has a lot of voice records and a new feature to record your voice while reading.

You should at least keep reading in Russian, Tasha. This will help to don't lose it, and even improve.

Tasha You should at least keep reading in Russian, Tasha.

I've actually thought about doing that. My library does carry alot of books written in russian (a huge population here of new russians) so I could really do it.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So my dog of 10 years. I think i really dont remember when he was born. Might be 11. Anyway. Vet just does his vaccs when shes out here for the cows so he has never been to the vet or even ever been sick. This morning starts yelping like he got stepped on. As it happened vet was coming for cow surgery anyway so I asked if she could check him quick. Not sure what is the cause but te anseer is I can put him down and you bury him or take him down to office and put to sleep and cremate. Well sir. Tomorrow we'll go to office but first time in his life hes been sock and it kills him. Probably some form of cancer. Weird thing is my parents had 3 of his litter mates and I have him and the mother. Over last 6 months he is third of the 4 litter mates to be put to sleep.
