ROFL! I'll bet they were chuckling.

I had a gastroscopy the other day. While I was waiting for the procedure, I noticed a nurse/attendant with blonde hair and blue streaks. I was thinking to myself, just my luck, I'll be snarky about those blue streaks when I come out of sedation. All was well until hours later. About 8:00 that evening, I recalled that I had had a discussion about that blue hair with someone. I texted my friend who drove me home and asked, "Did we have a conversation about the nurse with blue hair?" She phoned killing herself laughing and said that we had. I was so relieved. I knew I had a conversation with someone, and just hoped it wasn't the nurse herself because she would have been the one wheeling me to recovery. Maybe I did. Who knows?

One of my clients had IV sedation yesterday. I called her and was amazed at how lucid she was. But today, she had no memory of what she had said to me.

Interesting, Peggy. I got the same question and also responded about the scene in the book. I have not seen a follow up question.

Stephanie Well I didn't get the part time job at the doggie day care. They still want me to come in on a fill in basis so we shall see how that goes. There is another doggie day care that has an opening so I'm going to go and fill out an application. Bonus to that place is it is less than 5 minutes from where our new place is :-)

Lol TJ. I'm one of these people that bounces right back from anaesthesia, so I can't entirely relate, but watching Lexx at Christmas after his surgery was hilarious. So point is, they see it all the time and I am sure you're not the craziest they've had. Although if you asked an Australian doctor that, it would have a whole other meaning lol.

You've reminded me I need to go book one for myself. Thank you genes for high likelihood of bowel cancer.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments This is so weird as my wife ran ibto the doctor who saw me a while back in the ER. He told her since I still have pain I better get a colinoscopy and prostate exam to be safe. Then I pop in here and its just the popular talk of the day. Only I doubt anastesia would do much on me but who knows. Meanwhile I was at dentist today to get 2 fillings ob the right and 1 on my left filled. Loads me up on novocaine. My whole mouth is numb, tongue, lips, teeth. Figured it was going to be good. As soon as he started drilling novocaine wore off. This happens to me sometimes the novocaine doesn't work and at best it probably half numbs me. One tooth isn't bad. But sitting through three of them I was about ready to tell him to just rip them out of my mouth. Must have been in nerve. Usually the drilling just burns but this made my whole body go ice cold and I felt goose bumps cover my whole body I thought my blood was going ro freeze. The novocaine shot hurt so bad that I never tell him I'm not numb but today really was testing me but I never yelled uncle. I know I had sone tears running here and there. Now the novocaine shot spot was puksating pain to where it was throbbing in my ear so I am now all hopped up on pain killers and feeling much better. Funny thing is I know a day like today isn't normal but the times where the novocaine "works" which is maybe half numb I thought was just how it was until I was talking to a few people later who told me you should 't feel anything. Weird I never knew it worked that well for people. Nice thing was I waljed out and drank a cup of coffee aince I was not the least bit numb. No drooling or spilling my drink.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments My brother's cat had her kittens yesterday! 5 in all. Six or seven weeks and I'll get my little girl. Haven't seen the kittens yet. Vince says they all look like small rats right now. And their eyes are closed.

message 1668: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I admit I never knew baby kittens looked like rats. I ran into a bunch of barn kittens when I was a teenager and stomped them all. Well I climbed down a ladder and when I stepped off on the ground I panicked thinking I was in some weird rat or mouse nest and worried they would run up my pants. I can tell the difference now so never made the mistake twice. I have had a rat run up in my clothes before a couple years ago. Out at the corn pile I was cutting plastic in a snow storm and was rolling it up and the thing run right up the inside of my carhartts and jumped off my neck. Luckily didnt bite me but I think I had my clothes off in about 5 seconds. Probably the fastest I've ever undressed in my life

I'm so excited...

message 1672: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Well that was a fun read this morning.

I was going to say be wary Peggy but if Cherie got the same email then sounds like he's generally interested. Just be cautious as some things that start off seemingly innocent can end up down a whole different pathway.

I laughed at your experience TJ. Sorry. I had a gastroscopy last year and had sedation for it. They told me I wouldn't remember any of the procedure afterwards so while it was happening I was trying my hardest to solidify the memories of what was happening. Afterwards I remembered which I was pleased about. Then a couple hours later when the sedation wore off, I'd forgotten everything. I have a vague recollection of the beginning and that's it.

I feel your pain Travis. I have no idea what is in the injections here to numb, I guess the same. Normally I have no problems but when I was about 18 I had to have 7 fillings - split over two sessions, those ones, she didn't give me enough and I could feel them. She kept topping p the injections until my whole face was practically numb. I have a better dentist now. Oh and thanks for the kitten stomping imagery ;-)

I had a nice day off yesterday to recover after my cycle rides. Back on it again today. I have a busy weekend coming up. Viewing new premises and then work today. Then drive down to my parents for the night. Train to London in the morning to go on a course about sleep disturbances and insomnia for work, then back home. Then Sunday off up to stay at a friends place to catch up as she's been in Oz for the past 4 months. It's all good though, I'll just be hanging come Monday.

That is an odd question to be asked by a complete stranger Peggy and Cherie. There is probably nothing in it but I would be a little cautious just in case. He is/was a journalist you say? Makes me wonder if he is writing an article on the subject.

Coincidently, I have been working my way through the Outlander tv series and the episode I watched last night had that scene in it. It made my eyes water that's for sure!

About the guy: it's hard to guess whether he is genuinely interested or has some sort of weirder motive. I felt bad not responding at all so I sent him a short message back saying that I don't have personal experience with the topic and that his experiences in Lebanon sound interesting.

I like the name for the kitten too Anne!

I really like the series Peggy but it's quite graphic in terms of the sex and violence. I am usually 'okay' with onscreen violence so long as it is in context but the (view spoiler) was particularly horrible to watch. I imagine (view spoiler). Some of the actors don't match with how I imagined their characters to look but I think they are all doing a good job with their roles. It is beautifully shot, the Scottish Highlands look absolutely stunning and the music is great. I haven't read the book in a while so cannot remember all of it but from what I do remember, they seem to be following it pretty closely so far.

message 1697: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Travis - my dentist would be appalled that your dentist continued working knowing that you were in pain!

He uses some topical numbing stuff before he gives the novicane injection. Sometimes the spot where he gives the injection is a little sore after everything wears off, but I never feel it when he is doing it. You sound like you have more nerves in your teeth than others. I seem to have the same thing, and occasionally the novicane wears off sooner than expected. BUT, if I start to feel anything, and even twitch my eyebrow, my dentist stops what he is doing so I can tell him it is hurting and he gives me another injection. He told me that the reason that the novicane wears off sometimes is that there is more blood flow near the injection site and it is carried away sooner in some people, than in others. You should not have to tough it out. That is crazy.

I was wondering about the series too, and I cannot bring myself to watch it yet. I do not want my mind picture of the characters spoiled by the actors.

@ the guy/questions. I had another query last night. He asked if I had seen a similar situation or anything about the subject matter in any other books that I have ever read. I could not remember any and told him so.
