Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol Sandra, I completely misread that message about the anniversary. I thought it said you had an anniversary 6 days ago. Nevermind ;)

I don't think I could type someone elses thesis on mathemathics either!

Sorry to hear about the anxiety Stephanie.

message 1502: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thanks ladies :)
I never knew it could be so bad :( ugh!
But I feel a lot better now so on to better things :)

message 1503: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Peggy, Innoway I am a teacher, I teach group exercise classes, and manage the program. Stephanie, I can totally relate to the anxiety thing, it is no fun!! I think a doggy day care center seems right in your wheelhouse :-)

message 1504: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I am always up for a party. Not been to a proper one for ages.

I'm sure you'll get it all sorted Peggy. Wishing you hours of calm and focus. Your specialisation sounds very interesting. I might have to pick your brains at some point about it.

That doggy job sounds fab Stephanie. my partner has been looking into working with dogs perhaps setting up a walking service or training to be a door trainer. fingers crossed for you.

talking of anniversaries, it was me and my partner's 10 year anniversary at the weekend. time certainly does fly.

message 1505: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Thanks Berit and Sarah:) I sure hope it works out :)

Congrats on 10 years, Sarah! That's awesome!!!!

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Congrats, Sarah and Stephanie!

Peggy!!! How did I not know that you were doing a PhD on that topic? I must have been living under a rock! That sounds like so much work. I am still struggling with my review of literature chapter and have to start data entry. 2 months and you will be all done. Although these 2 months will sure be crazy. 6 papers would be great! I just got 2 published papers and sent one for consideration a few days back. I really do need to write more. I am sure you will do it all despite the craziness. You have come so far already. Let me know if I can help somehow, would love to.

Rusalka, thanks for remembering me. If all goes as planned, I plan to submit by August end and should be done with viva by year end. Seems so far off right now but it will be done (hopefully!)

message 1512: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I don't think I mentioned it here that often Pragya, so no worries! You're so close to finishing too! Good luck with all the last things you need to do :) If you want, could you send me the references to your published articles? I would love to read what you've done.

message 1515: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Just had to go through 88 new messages. Really people. Lol. Back to the friend request business. I had a strange experience. Guy facebook friend requested me couple months ago. I remember him, he was 3 years behind me in school, but I swear I never talked to him. I neither friended nor ignored just let him hang out in the friend request pool. If a person like this racked up a significant number of mutual friends I would eventually friend him. 2 weeks ago there was a fire in his apartment building. Evwryone except him and his friend got out basically unscathed. Those 2 had to have fire deoartment rescue them. About a day and a half later he died from burns and smoke inhalation. 30 years old sad story. So 1. I felt like a huge turd never accepting his request and 2 had to delete his request because it was too weird having a dead person requesting a friend.

No there is no point to the story it was just weird.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments That's sad Travis. So young...

message 1517: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Always remember you Pragya!

Thesis babies... such a common thing. We have a joke in our office that PhD students need a short term goal that they can focus on as 3-4years seems so far away. So they choose a 9 month project and get a baby. It's really more the fact that PhD students typically are in their late 20s - early 30s, but I like our theory better. My nephew has a jumpsuit at the moment that says "Thesis Baby" as my brother had 3 months to go when he was born, and now is on program leave until he can start sleeping normally again.

I understand those feelings Travis. I had a similar person on my friends request list. I had to realise that it was just guilt because the person had died, not because I really wanted to be friends with them. So don't beat yourself up about it. Sad story though about the fire. Poor guy, not a nice way to go.

message 1522: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks guys. We didn't do anything special. My partner is of the mindset that we don't have an anniversary date. Generally I'm not bothered either but 10 years is a biggie so I mentioned it a bit to him. We did go out for a Thai meal and he bought me a folding bike for commuting to work but these were more coincidence than planned for our anniversary. Men!

That is a sad story Travis. But as Rusalka said. I'm the other way around. I have a friend on facebook (more of an acquaintance) who died but I feel bad deleting them so they remain.

Day off today. I was hoping to go for a spin on my new bike to get used to it a bit but it's raining. I bought all the hi viz gear so everyone can see me. It makes me feel like I'm all geared up to go to a rave - just need some glowsticks and UV paint now.

message 1523: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Party? What is this again? I think i remember liiking these. :)

Congrats all around.

Good luck Peggy. This will be very intense but you will make it somehow.

On my side, if I do vanish, do not sent the rescue dog. My life is on the buzy side. My chinese class will be done at the end of the month, at least the studying will be over soon. This class requires more time than i have with all the other stuff going on lately.

I cannot remember when was the last time i manage to read more than 20 pages of a book in a row. Next weekend, is a long one. I promised myself to fit in a long bubble bath with a glass of wine and a book.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Did you have the stormy weather in the UK in the past days too Sarah? Hope you can use the bike soon!

Esther, Chinese class, interesting! How is it going? Are you taking the class for a reason or just for fun?

message 1525: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Learning Chinese sounds as interesting as challenging, Esther.

message 1526: by Berit (new)

A year after Lexx and I started dating I realised it was our anniversary. We went out for dinner, it was lovely. Yay. But the next week I realised, hang on, we didn't start dating really until this week, so now it's our anniversary. We went out for dinner, all good, fixed it. Then the next week, I was looking at my diary and realised, no, hang on, THIS was when we started really dating.

I was banned.

11 years later (12 all up) and we haven't had an anniversary since.

message 1529: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Wow! so many messages and things going on! I've been so busy these days so don't get to come in here as much. If I miss anyone, I'm sorry...

Peggy, I'm impressed! I'm an "All But Dissertation" in psych. At the dissertation part I was already burning out in the field and decided it just wasn't something I wanted to do anymore so I never continued, so I'm impressed. But really, I think your dissertation is way more work than mine was going to be. I'm looking forward to the party!

Pragya, we'll be partying for you soon too!!

Stephanie, I'm sure you will LOVE the dog job much better!! You could start up a dog sitting/walking business in your new area. My neighbor started hers up a couple of years ago and is really busy. We use her now but for almost 20 years we used another woman. She had a very steady business as well.

Berit, your job sounds fun! You must be a high energy level person. :)

Travis, that is a sad story. My stepdad passed several years ago and I think he must still have his FB account up...

Congrats to all the anniversaries as well! My hubby and I will be celebrating 20 years this september and are planning a trip with the kids to celebrate. We were thinking big like Hawaii or Europe but my 13yo hates/scared to fly so we are thinking something more within the states now. We don't usually do much to celebrate our anniversaries but since this feels like a big one, we are planning something fun.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments LOL Rusalka :D
My bf and I have had a discussion for a couple of years too, but in the end I decided to give in. We count from our first kiss, which happened after midnight. I took August 4th as our day, bf is sticking to August 5th. Not that we ever do anything to celebrate really, at least not anymore. Just a 'hey, today it's X years!'

Friends of mine have been together for a couple of years, got together on the 1st of some month, and since then they have a date night on the 1st of each month. Nothing big usually, maybe go for dinner, go to a movie together, small things like that.

How wonderful to go on a family holiday to celebrate Tasha. Lots of amazing places to go to in the States as well I think :) My mom and dad took us to Spain two years ago, when they had their 40-year anniversary. By the way, which field did you work in?

message 1531: by Tasha (last edited Apr 02, 2015 05:12AM) (new)

Tasha We have been to Captiva Island, FLA (South Seas Resort) and love it there so that may be an option, or somewhere new.

My husband and I were actually together for 2.5 years before we married so it's also really been longer than the wedding. Sometimes it's hard to fathom how many years it's been!

I'm sure Spain was wonderful! My parents were there many, many, many ;) years ago. I've never really thought about going there but I should add that to my list!

message 1532: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I looked up some pics of Captiva Island, it looks like paradise!

message 1533: by Tasha (new)

Tasha it's really beautiful down there. My mom's husband had a time share in South Seas there and that's how I found out about it.

message 1534: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's basically how we are Peggy and Rusalka - sometimes difficult to tell when a relationship starts making anniversaries difficult (unless you get married and then use that date). Best to ditch them (anniversaries not partners) same as valentines day.

I've just cycled up to the pub for some lunch. Started well but then got tired and a sore arse. I'm going to have to do it all again though in a minute. all good fun though.

message 1535: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Oh yes and Peggy, we had the windy weather. pretty crazy on the boat. it's eased off now. did you get it then?

message 1537: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments LOL! Rusalka, I can see why you were banned.

Like Tasha, my ex and I lived together for 2-1/2 years before we got married. For a while, we noted both anniversaries, but eventually graduated to the wedding one.

Now, I'm counting the anniversary of "getting my own place" - three years ago yesterday. :)

message 1538: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Woot Janice. And I'll pass that on to Lexx. Bah.

message 1539: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Janice, my anniversary for getting my own place will be on June 4 :-) I lived with my ex has been for 10 years before we got married, then we were married for 13 years, I don't think we celebrated either date. But it will be two years in June and I will be a celebrating :-)

Susan Guard | 695 comments We're headed out to visit our daughter and new son-in-law for her milestone birthday and Easter weekend. In an attempt to be a good mother-in-law I did check with him first to make sure we wouldn't be interrupting any big plans he was making for the weekend. Note to self: teach him to start making big plans for her birthday weekends. Heehee. :)

Do you have any traditional Easter desserts over there? Here many people eat either "Mämmi", which is a very traditional Finnish, erm, dessert. Mämmi is made of water, rye flour, and powdered malted rye, seasoned with dark molasses, salt, and dried powdered Seville orange zest. The mixture is then allowed to go through a slow natural sweetening process before being baked in an oven. Preparation takes many hours, and after baking the mämmi is stored chilled for three to four days before being ready to eat. Generally mämmi is eaten cold with either milk or cream and sugar, and less commonly with vanilla sauce. None of my family likes it - you either love it or hate it - so no mämmi for us.
Many people opt for "paskha", I like it but nobody else in my family does. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paskha

message 1550: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Apr 03, 2015 07:11AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments No, we don't have any traditional desserts here. You can buy a bunny cake at the stores, but I find them dry and tasteless. I might make an apple crisp or something like that.

My mother-in-law used to make a "baska" bread which was a sweet dough baked in cans. She saved up the large tomato juice cans and baked the dough in that. She'd cut off the bottom to push the bread out. The bread was airy. I loved to toast it and put butter and honey on it. The melted butter/honey would drip through the airy bread onto my fingers. She gave me the recipe (such as it was because she never really used recipes), and my attempts were miserable failures.
