Phillies although not the same with Halliday not on the mound and now Cliff Lee is probably done too
I bleed Dodger blue!I come from a huge baseball family, both my boys play, the older one in high school. My great grandpa pitched for the Boston Red Sox A long time ago and had to quit to farm so he could support his five children. The only time I am cold is sitting out at baseball games at night, that is the only reason I own a coat :-) I will be doing that tonight as a matter fact!
Travis, it's another reason to retire to Arizona. A lot of those spring training games are being played right here, in and around Phoenix. Temps here are in the 80's this week.
My parents go to Arizona every year for spring training!we play a lot of travel ball tournament there as well.
That's so cool Berit!! I was a dodger fan in the 80's (I loved Alfredo Griffin) but when Jose Offerman came up and took his job :( I moved on to the Braves because I liked David justice and then when chipper signed on to the Braves I became a full time Braves fan lol! Now he's retired but I still love the Braves :)
Stephanie, BTW glad your first day of work was so great.on another note we were just looking for my younger son's baseball hat for tonight's game and his big closet mirror doors came crashing down and shattered everywhere! Fun! Fun! Fun!
Glad your first day went well Stephanie :)Berit, that sounds pretty scary! I hope none of you got hurt?

I'm fine, just now I'm going to have seven years of bad luck ;-)those doors are just so darn heavy, !

It was the first- and only- baseball game my mom ever went to and it was when Sandy Koufax pitched his perfect game.
Bella wrote: "it was when Sandy Koufax pitched his perfect game..."I watched it on TV. ☺ I loved the Dodgers when I was a kid. I only got to go watch them a couple of times. My ex-husband and I watched a lot of the Angles home games in Anaheim Statium when we lived in So. California. He had a lot of baseball buddies and someone always had tickets to share. I miss that. I got to see the Seattle Mariners in the old stadium before they tore it down. We went on Opening day and it was a lot of fun.
I cannot remember when I went to Portland to catch a AAA game last.
I've been away for a few days so I'm just now catching up on about 100 posts in this thread alone! I can't quite wrap my brain around Travis's 23' of snow of the comment about only getting 4 snow-free months per year! We've had a lot of ice and one big snow this winter (all in the past month or so) and I'm so over winter! SAD is a very real thing here too. And it doesn't even have that much to do with the cold as it does with the shorter days I think. I hate that is always dark when I leave work during winter. The time changed this past weekend so now it is dark when I leave home but still daylight when I get off work. Rusalka, the bees sound really interesting. I look forward to hearing about your adventures with them once the hive comes in! I have a cousin that has bees, but I don't really know much about the process. And now I'm questioning myself why I've never talked to him about it...
Stephanie, I'm gald to hear you have a good first day! Good luck with training and getting settled!
@Travis, what is the best way to keep all of the beef from getting freezer burn? I have thought about going through a local "green" farm to get fresh beef, but I worry about how well it would keep. I think the smallest portion they sell is a "half cow" and that is still a LOT of beef.
All our meat whether its beef, pork or venison is vacuum packed. If its vacuum packed properly and your freezer is defrosted freezer burn shoukdn't be an issue. Should easily keep 18 months
I have a question for you all. Do any of you have Kindle unlimited? Is it worth it?We are having record highs here, it is going to be around 90 F on Sunday which is the LA Marathon, I guess they're starting it and hour early. But running 26 miles in the heat sounds not so much fun to me. :-)
I've heard about it, but of course it's not available here. I just read some more, and it says you can try for free for 30 days. How does it work? Is it like a library service or do you actually own/keep the books you read?
It's like a library service to what I understand. You don't get to keep the books. It just became available in Canada and I debated. But I have so many owned books that I have yet to read, when would I fit books in from Kindle Unlimited.
Maybe by the time they introduce it here (if ever), I will have finished all the other books I own ;-)
Maybe I will try the 30 day free trial. Janice , You're probably right I have way too many books as it is :-) Maybe I will try the 30 day free trial. Janice
I just looked at the terms and conditions, and it says you may borrow up to 10 titles at a time, but it doesn't say how long you can keep those titles or when they must be returned.
UGG! I updated my software on my phone and there is probably some fancy new something, to make it easier. And now things are getting repeated, sorry in advance :-)
I don't have Kindle Unlimited myself but so far I haven't heard anything good about it either.I've heard the selection is terrible. The bestsellers and popular books aren't available. It's mostly filled out with self-published books and classics that you can get for free elsewhere.
I've also heard that part of the reason for the bad selection is both the price they pay to the authors, which is very minimal, so not many sign up and the argument they had with the big publishers means that their books have not been made available for the service and aren't likely to be in the future either.
I've read several convincing arguments for sticking with the library's digital offerings or going with Oyster (for best selection) and Scribd (which includes audiobooks) instead.
This http://www.cnet.com/news/what-are-the... is a pretty good article that sums up everything I've read about the service. Newer article are still saying the same things too.
Hm, that doesn't sound good at all. Thanks for the info!Does anyone know why all these services are only available for tablets and phones, but not ereaders? Is it because you need to install an app? It's such a shame, ereaders are so much nicer for reading (especially if you read a lot) than tablets or phones, but you can't use them for this.
Peggy wrote: "Hm, that doesn't sound good at all. Thanks for the info!Does anyone know why all these services are only available for tablets and phones, but not ereaders? Is it because you need to install an a..."
I think it's just because of the app, since you cannot install one into an ereader, AFAIK.
I have not heard anything good about Kindle Unlimited. There's a wonderful reddit thread somewhere I can dig up that talks about how bad it is, and then the customer service.
Peggy wrote: "Hm, that doesn't sound good at all. Thanks for the info!Does anyone know why all these services are only available for tablets and phones, but not ereaders? Is it because you need to install an a..."
It depends on what you mean by ereaders, Peggy. My Nook Simple Touch and Nook Classic ereaders are only connected to my Barnes & Noble account, but my Nook Tablet (Samsung T2) allows me to install the Kindle App and buy and read Kindle books.
Amy has a mini iPad and she has both the Kindle App and the Nook App and can read and buy from both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
The reason I bought the tablet was so that I could download ebooks from the Library and read them directly via the Overdrive App instead of downloading to my PC and transferring to my Nook. I hated the whole transfer process and my tablet allows "one stop shopping". I could also install Audible and do it all on my tablet because it has a speaker, but I like to listen to audio books on my iPod better. The only advantage if I had the Audible App on my tablet is that I could also buy the audio books. The iPod App only allows me to listen to them so I have to get on my PC to purchase them.
Today I'm going to my oldest son's open house for college, it is at his second choice, which he has already gotten into :-) I kind of want this to be where he ends up going, it is pretty close only an hour or so away and he got into the Honors College at the school. It is a really good program:-)
Wonderful to hear about the Honors College. What school? I went to Fullerton JC part time before I married and had my Amy. So much for my career in Oceanography.
We are on a road trip this weekend :) Blake was so tired from standing in the back of the car that he fell asleep right away after we checked into the hotel :) there is a couch with a couple of ottomans and that is where he slept all night. (We brought his blanket in) It is 6:42am here and he just now climbed up onto the bed with us:)
We are in Pittsburgh :) going to catch a hockey game and do a bit of sight seeing at some point ;) Jamey has some homework to do so not sure how much sight seeing we will accomplish, but that's ok, just nice to be able to get away from home for a few days :)
We take Blake with us on road trips when we can :) he does ok in the back of the car but we are going to have to figure out more of a barrier because he can still get up on the back of the seat even with the netting we have up. It doesn't stretch all the way across so there is space on either side that he can stick his head through which also means he can semi climb over as well..which is not good :(
Thank you for all the congrats and nice words! Yesterday was a very long, but informative day :-) San Diego State University, is where we were yesterday. They were definitely trying to sell us on going there. The Honors College is a really good program with only 250 incoming freshmen, which is quite an honor when 65,000 freshman applied to the school. His drive to the school is a mandatory semester abroad and it is a Division I sports school. His first choice is still Berkeley, which is in Northern California a lot further away, but it would be very hard to turn down Berkeley. . So far, he has gotten into all the schools he applied to, and honestly I'm a bit surprised this has become his second choice. We also need to wait and see how much money all the schools are willing to give us, to me that is very necessary! So, the next two months will be a bit crazy for me, the decision needs to be made by May 1, I will definitely keep you all informed. And thanks again for the kind words :-)
That's great news, Berit! I love that SDSU requires a semester abroad - the year I spent abroad in college was one of the best experiences of my life. It is really hard to turn down Berkeley, though, especially if some money comes through! Sending all kinds of calm vibes to get you through the next couple of months.
Thanks, and I am proud! It is quite the process, and I get to do it all over again next year with my daughter. Then I do get a five-year break before my youngest goes off to college :-)
Happy St. Patrick's day! Don't forget to wear your green or you will get pinched :-) is this just an American thing?
