Berit, that sounds pretty scary! I hope none of you got hurt?

I missed seeing that! ugh!

My mom's boss went out of town on vacation, so he walked through the office giving away his family's season tickets for that week's Dodger game. It was the first- and only- baseball game my mom ever went to and it was when Sandy Koufax pitched his perfect game.

I watched it on TV. ☺ I loved the Dodgers when I was a kid. I only got to go watch them a couple of times. My ex-husband and I watched a lot of the Angles home games in Anaheim Statium when we lived in So. California. He had a lot of baseball buddies and someone always had tickets to share. I miss that. I got to see the Seattle Mariners in the old stadium before they tore it down. We went on Opening day and it was a lot of fun.
I cannot remember when I went to Portland to catch a AAA game last.

Rusalka, the bees sound really interesting. I look forward to hearing about your adventures with them once the hive comes in! I have a cousin that has bees, but I don't really know much about the process. And now I'm questioning myself why I've never talked to him about it...
Stephanie, I'm gald to hear you have a good first day! Good luck with training and getting settled!
@Travis, what is the best way to keep all of the beef from getting freezer burn? I have thought about going through a local "green" farm to get fresh beef, but I worry about how well it would keep. I think the smallest portion they sell is a "half cow" and that is still a LOT of beef.

We are having record highs here, it is going to be around 90 F on Sunday which is the LA Marathon, I guess they're starting it and hour early. But running 26 miles in the heat sounds not so much fun to me. :-)

How does it work? Is it like a library service or do you actually own/keep the books you read?

I've heard the selection is terrible. The bestsellers and popular books aren't available. It's mostly filled out with self-published books and classics that you can get for free elsewhere.
I've also heard that part of the reason for the bad selection is both the price they pay to the authors, which is very minimal, so not many sign up and the argument they had with the big publishers means that their books have not been made available for the service and aren't likely to be in the future either.
I've read several convincing arguments for sticking with the library's digital offerings or going with Oyster (for best selection) and Scribd (which includes audiobooks) instead.
This http://www.cnet.com/news/what-are-the... is a pretty good article that sums up everything I've read about the service. Newer article are still saying the same things too.

Does anyone know why all these services are only available for tablets and phones, but not ereaders? Is it because you need to install an app? It's such a shame, ereaders are so much nicer for reading (especially if you read a lot) than tablets or phones, but you can't use them for this.

I think it's just because of the app, since you cannot install one into an ereader, AFAIK.

It depends on what you mean by ereaders, Peggy. My Nook Simple Touch and Nook Classic ereaders are only connected to my Barnes & Noble account, but my Nook Tablet (Samsung T2) allows me to install the Kindle App and buy and read Kindle books.
Amy has a mini iPad and she has both the Kindle App and the Nook App and can read and buy from both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
The reason I bought the tablet was so that I could download ebooks from the Library and read them directly via the Overdrive App instead of downloading to my PC and transferring to my Nook. I hated the whole transfer process and my tablet allows "one stop shopping". I could also install Audible and do it all on my tablet because it has a speaker, but I like to listen to audio books on my iPod better. The only advantage if I had the Audible App on my tablet is that I could also buy the audio books. The iPod App only allows me to listen to them so I have to get on my PC to purchase them.
