Ugh! Way too much snow! It warmed up here today so our snow is melting :) Hope the snow goes away soon for you, Travis, but not too fast, don't want it to flood:)

The constant harsh winters has been blamed why this region has one of the highest rates of depression in the country. We're all on happy pills.
Seasonal depression? I thought that happened more in places they didn't get sun for six months. Mind you, if I had to shovel all the snow every day I think I would get a bit depressed too. So that makes a lot of sense. It looks rather pretty though, even with all the snow.
Flooding will definitely be a concern whenever things start getting spring like. I think its people being cooped up in their house going stir crazy. Next thing its redrum redrum
Should learn how to do the photobucket deal and load my own pics. Could even show some nice weather pics. We get at least 4 months a year without snow
There is a lot of beauty in winter yhough. There is a light layer of ice on everything and is quite a stunning sight as the sun rises in the morning
Does everyone spring forward today or tomorrow?I think some of you have already sprung! I live in Pacific standard time or soon to be Pacific daylight Time.. I like when it is lighter later!I sat outside most of today in 70 8F at my son's baseball game.of course, we do have water rationing starting soon here.
Berit wrote: "I think some of you have already sprung!"Hahaha! Is that something like flipping one's wig, or as Travis said - redrum redrum!
I read somewhere that people in Iceland actually have some genetic protections against developing seasonal affective disorder. People here suffer from it too, although I'm not sure what the prevalence is. I notice it in myself too, definitely not clinical levels of depression, but my mood and energy levels drop dramatically when winter is well on its way (january and february), and it disappears as soon as the days start to get longer and warmer. In Jan and Feb I feel moody when my alarm goes off and often stay in bed for half an hour longer because I don't want to get up, but now that it's light outside by the time my alarm goes off I jump out of bed without any problems. Daylight savings here too, but not for another three weeks.
I took Friday off from work to go look at a house with boyfriend, and I thought I'd work from home on Sunday instead, bf is at work anyway. But, today is such a nice day! It's sunny and cloudless and 18 degrees, and probably the warmest March 8 in this area since the beginning of measurements in 1901. It feels like such a shame to sit inside and work while the weather is so nice and won't be for a long time, from tomorrow it's only 11 or 12 degrees. So I think I'll just feel guilty and sit on the balcony and read, and tell myself I'll be more productive coming week at work if I take a bit of sunshine now.
I'm so happy for all you getting to finally enjoy the warm weather!i'm trying to adjust to the time change, I hate when the time changes, it seems to throw me off completely!
I went clothes shopping and put a big dent in my MasterCard. Yikes! I think I'm going to have to have a nap now. I tired myself out.
He had a sunny day too, but only 42F (6C) degrees.I wouldn't say I fell depress in winter, but I definitively feel the lack of energy in the cold season too. In summer my energy level is really, really higher. I wonder if it is kind of "hibernation"? Maybe it's a way the body has to save energy in the moment we need it more and the supplies are shorter.
Interesting about the Icelanders. Don't e have a member from Iceland in YLTO who could comment? I can't remember who now. Doh!People get SAD here too and can buy those light boxes to help. I think it does have a lot to do with mindset too. We expect Winter to come, it to be dark and dreary, not do much and then it happens, and we feel rubbish. As Travis says, there is a lot of beauty in Winter so focusing on what you like about the season is a good idea. But I think you're right too Sandra that there might be an element of hibernation going on. Typical in winter there is less food around and more dangers (i.e. ice and other hungry animals) and therefore we just hole up and wait for the warmer weather to come and preserve our energy stores.
We had a gorgeous weekend of weather here. It feels like Spring has sprung. We moved our boat yesterday up the canal so I had a nice new view when I woke up this morning. The clocks don't go forward here until the end of March. I noticed that some of you in Canada and the US had some time changes yesterday (my diary told me).
Rusalka wrote: "bee hive..."Oh, how cool, you got one of those that I have seen on posts on FB. I did not know that they were available yet. I always thought it would be neat to keep bees, but never thought it a reality. I try to be bee friendly and not spray insecticides in my yard. Just make sure Lexx has an eppie pen. My brother is allergic and we almost lost him twice before they were available. You will have to drizzle the honey on his pancakes for him. :0)
I forgot to comment about your bee hive Rusalka. Thanks Cherie for doing so to remind me :-) That is so amazing. I'd love to keep bees. It seems to have become quite popular here in the UK. More hot toddies to come then! Make sure you protect yourself though even if you're not allergic yourself. I hate bee stings.
Heh thanks guys. He's not that bad, otherwise we wouldn't get them at all. But I will do most of the bee things at least at the beginning, as we want to limit exposure so he doesn't get worse. But hopefully we get a nice friendly swarm, not an aggro one. I loved that in their FAQs they recommend always getting at least a bee helmet, as there is nothing worse than get's a bee up your nose.
And due to my shellfish allergy, we always have hard core antihistamines around and on us. Which was lucky the other day when our festival in Canberra sold me Japanese pancakes and didn't mention the giant chunks of prawn in them until I realised halfway through! Bastards.
Hope you are doing good with the hives, Rusalka. As far as I read in The Honey Thief, it seems really complex but yours sounds easier.
It will be fun to hear your progress on the bees, Rusalka. My husband has talked about getting bees but we've never really done anything about it.
Berit wrote: "I'm so happy for all you getting to finally enjoy the warm weather!i'm trying to adjust to the time change, I hate when the time changes, it seems to throw me off completely!"I know, it's only an hour but it still takes me a couple of days for my body to adjust!
I'm the same Tasha when the clocks change. I blame it on the fact I was born around the time in changes in October. According to my mum it has always thrown me out.
Funny Sarah, I was born around that time in March. One hour doesn't bother me though. 10 hour jetlags on the other hand have me messed up for weeks.
Well I was born in November and I have a really hard time with it! It is now Monday morning, and I am dreading having to wake my children up. No one will be happy this morning :-) and they were born in November, December and February, so they have no real excuses;-)
Sent an Angus steer in for butchering couple weeks ago. Wife is on way home with 872 lbs. Of fresh beef. Thinking its a good day for a tbone with a side of hamburger and cube steak. Maybe with a nice sirloin as an appetizer and some beef tenderloin for dessert. Feeling carnivorous.
Travis do you have a really big freezer? Or somewhere to keep all that meet? Stephanie good luck on starting your job tomorrow! :-)I just thought of something, Travis you could probably just keep the meet outside ;-)
We have 2 big uoright freezers plus the one wih the fridge. Some of that goes dtraight to my parents. It will feed 3 families for ayear usually
Peggy wrote: "Funny Sarah, I was born around that time in March. One hour doesn't bother me though. 10 hour jetlags on the other hand have me messed up for weeks."Me too, Peggy. Going to and from Malaysia was just awful because of the jet lag. My sleep cycle got very messed up. At one point I just couldn't sleep period. Ugh.
Mmm, steak sounds so yummy, Travis.
Good luck, Stephanie. Enjoy your new job :)
Thank you Rusalka and Janice :) I only have to go in for a few hours to start training so not too long of a day :)
Had a really good first day at my new job :) I really like my co-workers and the one that is trading me had been there forever so that is a plus :) they don't expect me to know everything right away which I don't know anyone who could with all the info their is to know so that's a plus ;) training the rest of this week and the following week (minus Monday since hubby and I will be traveling back that day from a hockey game). Then hopefully I will be down to my real shift :)
Oh and first thing Blake did when I got home and sat down was hop up on the couch with me so he could snuggle :) I think he missed me..gotta love big dogs that think they are lap dogs :)
doing bills and paperwork which sucks, but watching preseason baseball. Even though my team is losing is still love preseason baseball. It's always nice and sunny while I sit in the snowbank. Makes it feel more like spring just to watch.
