All this Disney talk makes me realize how spoiled my kids are. We have had Disneyland passes most of their lives, annual passes that is. My daughter and her boyfriend will just go to Disneyland for a couple hours at a time. Universal Studios is probably over an hour away, so we don't get there as often. An hour that is without traffic, probably 2 1/2 hours with traffic.
Thanks all!!KimeyDiann! Your trip sounds fun!! Hope you have a blast!!
Peggy, good luck with the house hunt :)

Berit wrote: "All this Disney talk makes me realize how spoiled my kids are. We have had Disneyland passes most of their lives, annual passes that is. Orlando, FL is about a 12 hour drive from where I live. And we did drive it when we went a few years ago. I definitely plan on flying next time though!
Congrats Stephanie! I'm excited for you.Re: Group vacations. My family went on an Alaskan Cruise about 2 years ago. There were 26 of us ranging from aged 1 - 86. We had the same seating times for meals and our tables were grouped together. Our evening show times were the same and we generally went together. Other than that, we did our own things on ship. When we got to shore, I often went out on my own. There were things I wanted to do (like whale watching), so I booked them well in advance. I'm the anal one of the family. The rest of them fly by the seat of their pants and it would have been a nightmare trying to organize them.
It's often, what are we going to do? I don't know. We should go do a,b,c. Yeah, sounds good. So are we going to go do it? Yeah, we could. Well, let's go then. The newspaper gets opened, someone starts texting on their phones. Another starts a Sudoku puzzle. Ahhh... I thought we were going somewhere. Yeah, we should. Where's dad? I don't know. Thought he wanted to come. We'll wait for him. Half hour later - are we going to go do something? Yeah we should.
I hate those kind of situations, I really don't have the patience. And it doesn't even require 30 people, 6 will do.
That is exactly what I am talking about, Janice! I've done it many times! I enjoy planning as well as spur-of-the-moment decisions.... but it drives me crazy when the situation you described happens. And more often that not (in our groups anyway) no one wants to be the one to make the decision... "Do you want to do A or B?" "I don't care, either is fine with me."
or
"Whatever you want to do."
I have often tried the... Hey, we are going to do (insert activity here) if you want to go. Which leads to waiting around for everyone that wants to do said activity to get ready and wasting time, which makes those that are waiting grumpy. Then by the time you get to do whatever, everyone is grumbling at one another and you can't even enjoy what you were planning to do. And setting a specific time ahead rarely works because there are always those few that are late to everything. Of which my sister-in-law is one!
I'm exhausted just thinking about it!
Stephanie wrote: "I got the job at the community college :) woohoo!! I start training a bit next week! They weren't going to call till Monday but they figured they would give me the good news today to make it a good..."Congratulations on your new job Stephanie! :D
Thank you, Tasha, Janice and Lisa :) I'm nervous but I think that happens when you start somewhere new :)
Berit wrote: "It is a family joke that my 18-year-old son has never met a public bathroom that he doesn't love :-) he always needs to use the bathroom when we go out to eat ;-) he also does not believe in hand s..."I always said the same thing about the bathrooms, too, Berit. Every outing we ever made when my girls were small needed a stop in the public restroom. I know where they all are. Why is it that the kids never have to go to the restroom in a restaraunt until just when the food arrives, no matter how long it takes?
@ Peggy - good luck on the house!@ Stephanie - wonderful news about your job!
@ Janice - Jasper, Colorado?
@ Sandra - no baths for me either.
@ Travis - the beds do no scare me half as much as the carpets in a hotel.
Stephanie, great news on the new job.Restaurants and bathrooms....there are definitely places in the world some of the members in this group should avoid, I've been in some that definitely give me the willies and I have a pretty high yuck tolerance.
Thank you Cherie and Roz!Hotels don't really bother me as long as they are nice, lol! We are going on a trip to Pittsburgh for a hockey game in March and we are bringing Blake with us:) he is really good in hotel rooms! We just leave the TV on for him in the room when we are gone and he is content! Not sure if I can upload video here but we have a video of him just chilling on the bed watching TV at the last hotel we stayed at when traveling :)
I don't get weirded out by germs unless someone is sick. I tend to catch the sick person's cold :(
Cherie - Every time I see your avatar, I smile. You're profile pic says "I'm so chuckling; I want you to be also."
Thanks my friend for making me smile - I needed that today. Everything I've touched today has gone down to crap. I saw your picture and I don't feel so bad. =)
Berit, the Boston Pizza used to have a bulls-eye target in the urinal in the men's washroom. We could not keep our son out of there (he was about 3-4 at the time.) I don't know how he generated all that urine, but he was constantly headed there. We were such proud parents when he'd holler across the restaurant, "Daddy! I hit the bulls-eye." I think I'll remind him of that tomorrow night when he comes over for pizza night. Maybe I should go get a target and stick it in the toilet.
KimeyDiann wrote: "That is exactly what I am talking about, Janice! I've done it many times! So I booked the things I wanted to do, sent emails and said, "Here's what I've booked. You're welcome to join me." Invariably, I'd come back and someone would ask, "What did you do today, Jan?" "I went on a whale watching tour and we had an open air salmon bake at a beautiful resort on an island." "Really?? I wanted to go on a whale watching tour so bad!"
Berit wrote: "Janice, LOL, I loved that post :-)"I'm glad you did. I was a little afraid people would think I'd finally flipped my wig.
Stephanie wrote: "Oh no Anne! Sorry your day was poor :( hope you have a better weekend :)"Me too, Stephanie!
I spilled shampoo in the shower, then spilled 1/2 gallon of milk as I got it out of fridge, then dropped a box on my foot, almost slipped on said milk as I cleaned up. Almost tripped over Clyde who was playing dead in front of his empty food bowl - tongue hanging out, 4 paws in the air. AND YES I spilled his food...
Case of the dropsy.
Janice-my parents are paying for our whole family, including my brothers and their families to go on an Alaskan cruise in September! It will be a little overwhelming since the most time we really spend now is a holiday DAY...But I will take your suggestion and book what I want to do and let them know in case they'd like to join!
Steph-I think this job will be great because the people sound very nice! You could use that this time ;) What kind of school is it?
What cruise line are you going on, Melissa? We went with Disney. You can book excursions when you're on the ship, but if there is something you really want to do, I'd recommend that you book it online before you go so that you aren't disappointed. Highlights for me were the White Pass Rail trip in Skagway and the whale watching tour in Juneau. I was really disappointed in a tour in Ketchikan that implied you would see the totem village, eagle sanctuary and a lighthouse. We did see all of them - from the deck of a boat. We didn't get to wander around in these spots. Bonus there was we cruised past Johnny Depp's place.
Tejas Janet wrote: "Anne, so sorry for the very bad day. Hoping tomorrow is brighter **hugs**"Thanks, TJ! =)
Hope you are having a better day today, Anne :)Melissa, it is a community college :) but I will be working in the testing center so a little bit different than what I did at Carrington in Spokane :) it will be a nice change :)
Wow. you guys know how to talk I had 64 unread posts in this thread alone. Congrats all round for booked holidays, jobs received, house viewings arranged and anything else I might have missed. Clean trousers on this morning to go out to meet up with my family. they've been on for 3 hours max. bumped into a little scottie dog on the towpath on my way out who was very friendly so I went to pet him and he jumped up abd now I have muddy paw paw prints on my trousers. more clean trousers it is then.

Awe! Who could pass up a passing puppy dog that is friendly :) Hope you have a good time with your family, Sarah :)
That's good to hear Travis.I had a nice weekend seeing family and my partner's family plus managed to get lots of things done on the boat including the dirty job of cleaning the flue on our log burner. feeling productive.
Thanks everyone. I'm sure the stress test will be fine and the heart ultrasound is pretty cool to watch
I can imagine it is pretty cool to watch that. I always like having the picture of the back of my eye done as it's pretty amazing to see what it looks like. Fingers crossed for stress test.
Well this is fun :) so I may not get to start till later in the week. My soon to be boss didn't realize some things that have to be done before I can officially start working there..so hernia in the process of getting those things done :) he is hoping that they will get to have me start by Thursday maybe Wednesday..I will just enjoy the extra few days I have to myself then :)
So much of life is hurry up and wait! I am cleaning my house right now, I had a house full of teenagers all weekend and it is a disaster. I know I should have my kids clean, but I do such a better job of it!☺️
I'm not usually good at waiting but I'd rather wait and have all the i's dotted and the t's crossed :) Sounds like you had a good weekend, Berit :) yes, us adults definitely clean better than most teenagers :) I know I hated cleaning as a teenager and didn't put a lot of effort (hide things in the closet instead or under the bed worked for me, lol)! I'm much more organized now though :)
Exactly Stephanie! If they clean I just end up going behind them and doing it right. So, I'm cutting out the middleman :-)
Berit wrote: "So much of life is hurry up and wait! I am cleaning my house right now, I had a house full of teenagers all weekend and it is a disaster. I must hang my head in shame and admit that I don't have my kids do much of the cleaning. Which people have said is bad. I just don't have time to argue, listen to whining, bargain, supervise, get mad, calm down, and then do the job myself.
