Jessica Elizabeth | 95 comments Bella-- excellent advice! I never thought of doing it that way.

Just curious, does anyone have a library in their house or just a room dedicated to books? DH and I are thinking making our spare bedroom into a library :-)

message 902: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Jessica, I don't even have enough rooms for all my kids :-) my parents just bought a new house and have a beautiful library in it, so maybe someday! And yes thank you to Bella for the great advice. I think I will buy used, it makes sense.

Travis I hope you look into those ribs and feel better. I am not particularly fond of big animals and that is why. You never know if they will kick , bite or hurt you any other way

My spare room is what we call our library/computer room. We have two desks and book shelves and a couple of file cabinets in there. It was a bed room when my girls were little, but after they moved out it was converted. It was really more of an office than a library, but all of the books are in there now, except for my granddaughter's personal ones. I would like to get rid of one of the desks and replace it with a recliner, but I need an army to move the desk that is there.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Sarah - they have Dragon Boat races in Portland in June every year. The group that I used to work for at Intel always had an entry every year, but the last couple of years I guess that they could not find enough people interested in doing it. It was always fun to go cheer them on.

Kazen Peggy - As a fellow migraineur you have my (quiet, dark) love. I hope the fog lifts soon.

KimeyDiann - Snow whatever, but ice is not to be messed with! I hope your husband got home safely and early enough for a good snowball fight. -_^

Sarah - I have never heard of dragon boating, and it looks so cool!

Mariab - Nono, that's a legit reason to almost panic! The first time my mom's e-reader rebooted itself for an update she nearly had a heart attack. -_^

Jessica - How wonderful that you have a spare room that can be dedicated to books! I don't have one (yet) but if dh and I ever move into a proper house I'd like to have a room o' books. :D

message 907: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I had also a spare room which serves now as library. I had removed every furniture from it, save from a small desk, a chair and a petite cabinet. Is is converted from roof to floor wth books. Mostly work related books

message 908: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4529 comments Sarah, my cousin used to participate in a dragon boat competition years ago (he's 81 now). He loved it.

My Kindle died on vacation last year (right about now). It was horrible. I couldn't gret it to restart so when I got home I bought a new one (a Paperwhite so I could read in the dark and not disturb my husband). Wouldn't ya know, the old one started to work just before the new one was delivered? It's like they're alive. I opened up the back and gave it a good cleaning (got that off YouTube) and now it's my backup. I also have an iPad with the kindle app on it. Hubby is using that and will probably start using the old kindle too. Nothing goes to waste.

message 910: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Elizabeth | 95 comments Mariah- that's pretty much what I want to do. Just a full wall of floor to ceiling books with a comfy chaise!

message 911: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie It has snowed again!! Aaggghh!! Oh well, at least it is warmerish ;) I'm glad I don't have anywhere to go today! I have about 200 pages left to go in The Book Theif! Maybe I will finally finish it :)

message 912: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I panicked too a while ago when I forgot my ereader on the train. And a few weeks ago I was on the train, turned my ereader on, and it got stuck. It needed resetting with something sharp and thankfully I found a broken keychain in my bag and that worked. I'm glad I never get rid of small useless things!

message 913: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Elizabeth | 95 comments Stephanie, how are you liking The Book Thief so far?

message 914: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I'm really liking it so far, Jessica! I watched the movie first but the book seems to have a lot more stuff that happens that wasn't in the movie :) I really liked the movie as well! It is just taking me forever cause the book is just over 500 pages which is a lengthy book for me :)

message 915: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Peggy we might get an inch or so of snow once or twice per year. we ended up getting close to 8 inches yesterday! It has been really exciting! We rode the gator (off road vehicle) over to my sis-in-law house when my hubby got home and played in the snow with our nieces and family. We had a great time. There was still quite a bit of snow and ice this morning on the roads so work was cancelled. Most has melted now, but since it is almost an hour for me to get to work, I'm skipping out and staying home. There isn't much point in driving that far just for a few hours. plus it'll start getting icy again when the temps start dropping.

message 921: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I'm meeting with a couple of friends in Jasper the first weekend in May. I decided to head on down to Banff, and I've booked myself in to a swanky hotel for two nights. Going to pamper myself! So excited. Three nights in a cabin in Jasper, 2 in swanky hotel should be just what the doctor ordered.

message 927: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Apparently I'm the only germiphobe in the group. I don't care how nice a hotel supposed to be gives me the willies. I don't even like sleeping at other peoples houses but if I have to its usually fully dressed with a hooded sweatshirt so my face doesn't touch anything. Unless I'm drunk then I'm down with ehatever

message 928: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Is it just hotels Travis, or also for example touching seats or poles in buses or trains?

message 929: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Never take buses or trains but I don't think it'd bother me. Having to lay down on sonething or showers and bathtubs. Well public bathrooms in general as far as that goes

message 930: by Tasha (last edited Feb 27, 2015 05:04AM) (new)

Tasha I understand what you mean, Travis. I just work to ignore it. I do spray certain things down in hotels though like remotes, phones. I always spray public toilets for my daughter.

message 931: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments It is a family joke that my 18-year-old son has never met a public bathroom that he doesn't love :-) he always needs to use the bathroom when we go out to eat ;-) he also does not believe in hand sanitizer. He also does not believe in allergies. I guess all this will come in handy next year when he's living in the college dorms :-)

message 932: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Just make sure he showers with sandals. Mens dorm showers are horrid disease traps

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I figure that's why we have immune systems. I don't worry over much about stuff like that.

message 934: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Sandra wrote: "An unexpected day off it's always welcome. Isn't it?"

Yes! I thoroughly enjoyed my day and a half off of work. But now I'm paying for it trying to play catch-up at the office! Of course it is the end of the month so everything has to be finished today so I can start compiling the month end financial reports next week.

Janice, your vacation sounds wonderful! While eating breakfast with my sis-in-law and her family yesterday morning, they started talking about taking a trip to Disney World and Universal Studios at the end of May. I've been talking about wanting to go to Universal for a few months now so I really want to go, but it will be a group of about 25-30 people if everyone goes. That many people on vacation together sounds like an extremely hectic experience! I don't know if we'll go or not.

message 935: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments KimeyDiann, as long as everyone does their own thing and meets up for dinner/drinks, it would work for me.

message 936: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm the same as you Janice. I think exposure to these things can even be good for you, by improving your immune system and getting sick less often.

Boyfriend and I have been thinking about buying a house for a while, and after months we finally found one we both think is worth looking at. We're going there next Friday!

KimeyDiann, I feel the same as Janice and Peggy. I wouldn't want to be together with that many people all the time on holiday/vacation but if you all did your own thing and just met up as and when you wanted to, it could work. Have you been to either Universal Studios or Walt Disney World before? They are great!

message 941: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I get the willies too, Travis, about hotels but basically tell myself to chill out. I'm more fearful of potential negative health consequences from dining out at restaurants. With hotels, I mostly worry a tad about bed bugs, but it hasn't happened yet. Even if it did, would be a nuisance but not cataclysmic.

Being in large crowds or closely crowded spaces makes me worry some about getting sick from spread of viruses and bacteria. But I still go to theaters and ride buses, planes, trains. I am in general a pretty big hand washer. It's become an engrained habit I think because of cohabiting with numerous cats and dogs.

I rarely get sick, knock wood, but I have some trouble with sensitivity to perfumes. Can give me allergy symptoms and headache. No ginormous sports arenas for me tho. Too overwhelming.

message 942: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments That's wonderful, Peggy!

message 943: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I'm not obsessed about germs. Not even regarding my kids. But I wouldn't have a bath in a hotel. It sounds just gross. I don't trust the cleaning of those places, specially after I found someone else's sock in my bed. Only showers for me.

Stephanie I got the job at the community college :) woohoo!! I start training a bit next week! They weren't going to call till Monday but they figured they would give me the good news today to make it a good weekend :)
The hours aren't the best but the people in the office are so nice and I really love that they are all dog people :) and it is only part time so that is nice :)

Bella | 502 comments Congratulations on the job, Stephanie. I think it's a good sign that they called you early- it looks like you'll be working with considerate and kind people. And so much of how much you love, or loathe, a job comes down to who you work with and for.

message 948: by Stephanie (new)

message 950: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @Peggy good luck on the house!

@Stephanie - Congrats on the job! I hope you love it!

As far as the Disney/Universal vacation, we are going to meet with everyone Sunday afternoon to discuss it a little further. They know someone that plans these sorts of trips for big groups and that person is meeting with everyone to discuss options and prices. I'm sure everyone will separate out and go their own ways during the day for the most part, but I can also see what a headache it could be too. We've been on several trips with groups as large as 15 and it can get really frustrating trying to organize everyone to get together for meals or whatever. And this is looking like a group of closer to 30!

I have been to Disney World once a few years ago. It was AMAZING! I really want to go to Universal Studios... mainly because I want to go to the Harry Potter themed parks! LOL.
