Oh, the cuteness! :D Adorable video! I think bats are amazing little creatures.

LOL! Of course you're endearing. We're all endearing here, though I'm sure some people roll their eyes at me. Hehehehe!
Thanks, Berit! I hope it warms up here soon..it is still snowing. Been snowing since around 9am and it is now 2:38pm. It's a good day to stay indoors and read. I haven't been able to reach much lately, just not in the reading mood I guess. I am really liking the Book Thief :)
How did I miss the pics and video of the baby bats? Weird how that happens in these discussion threads. We used to live in an old house that had bats. It hadn't been lived in for a while when we moved in. Part of me wants to say, "ahh cute baby bats in the video", and then I remember the infestation we lived with. In the video, they look cute.
Bats are so cute. I have always liked them. We have a few that circle the yard (sky) in the summer and I love looking for them. Melissa, have you heard of the Law of Attraction? It falls in line with being happy and the things that came from that. It's really amazing how it works.
It's been snowing here all day too.
Melissa, I'm with you, being positive is so necessary, but sometimes is so difficult too! Most of the time are simple things that make the difference. Some days a "more-than-7-minutes" shower helps me to change my humor. I'm all the time running, doing 3 or 4 tasks at the same time, and at some point I'm tired, grumpy and just run out of patience. Then I just declare I need a "more-than-7-minutes" shower. Of course I would prefer a month long cruise by myself in the Caribbean , but since I can't do it, I just try to look for little things that make me happy. I won't lie you, though. Some days NOTHING works! :)

A friend of mine does things with the baby bats too. We have a few grown up bats living in our backyard at the moment. They are about 60cms long (1m wingspan) and not so elegantly crash through our trees all night.
A few years ago my husband tried transcendental meditation and he loved it so much he convinced me to do it. I love it. It refreshes and energizes me so much, it's like a nap. You are supposed to do it 2 times a day (20 minutes each) but I often hit just once although last year I had a streak of 2x/day for just over 100 days! I felt so good. I highly rec it to any and everyone! ;)
When I feel myself getting grumpy from multi-tasking and doing what moms do, I tell everyone I need to go meditate. They know a meditating mommy is a more patient mom so they give me the time. :) But a shower is pure joy as well! Love being able to get those in too!
I havent see the pic or the video yet. But bats are VERY useful. They eat mosquitos for once and a large number from other plagues
So sick of working in the cold. My absolute favorite band of all time Godsmack is touring all over Australia right now. If I didn't have to work evert day I would so be traveling through Australia following them. I've seen them many times in NY and it never gets old.
Thank you so much, Janice, Rusalka, Lisa, TJ, Tasha, Berit and Melissa.Melissa, they live at an hour's drive. I wish they lived closer though. I will try to visit them atleast once every 10 days. I am already missing the little one.
It's getting warmer here and I'm not a fan of the summers. :/
Oh good, I thought I was the only one ;-) the only bad I want anywhere near my house is a baseball bat ;-)
Berit! Your warmer weather vibes worked! It is supposed to be around 50*F here today!! Woohoo!! Hopefully it melts a majority of the snow :)
We are 33F (2C) here right now. Really warm after the freezing last days. My kids had a great time playing in the snow this morning.
Stephanie wrote: "Berit! Your warmer weather vibes worked! It is supposed to be around 50*F here today!! Woohoo!! Hopefully it melts a majority of the snow :)"I think ours is supposed to be around 40. That's a heatwave considering... ;)
Windchill of 12FAs for the bats go fishing at night and have them going after your line when you cast or if you have long hair they'll get tangled up in it. Had to pull a few bats out of a girlfriends hair before. I hate em
Glad the warm weather fives are working :-) just have to say if a bat flew into my hair, I would have a heart attack ;-)
One time on a camping trip to a state park, we were at a sunset talk given by a park ranger. She had just finished saying how wonderful bats were, etc. when one swooped down straight towards my head. I did the terrified girly squeal - and the ranger looked at me with such complete and utter disgust. I was so embarrassed - I wish the dang thing had flown into her hair!!
Speaking of bats, this little guy just landed on our balcony. I took this picture from inside the apartment..no way was I going outside, lol! He has since flown away.
I have a funny story, when my kids were younger I used to walk them to the bus stop. There was this bird who used to swoop behind my head and freak me out, big time. So, I started carrying an umbrella over my head. To this day my kids tell me how super embarrassing that was. :-) You can only imagine what I would have done if that were a bat, girly scream, you would all here it wherever you are ;-)
Travis of NNY wrote: "So sick of working in the cold. My absolute favorite band of all time Godsmack is touring all over Australia right now. Berit wrote: "I have a funny story, when my kids were younger I used to walk them to the bus stop. There was this bird who used to swoop behind my head and freak me out, big time. So, I started carrying an umbre..."Tell them you were just being an Australian. That's what we have to do all spring. We have birds called "Magpies" which are gorgeous and have the most beautiful song. But in spring they go mental. They swoop and attack you if you go anywhere near their nests. They are incredibly territorial and full on chase you until you are out of the territory. This can be down a whole street or park.
You need to carry an umbrella, stick or anything similar with you to fight/scare them off. They swoop the highest point so if you have a umbrella up, they don't get you. Most bikers put zip ties sticking up all over their helmets so they look like Echidnas so they don't hit your helmet.
They don't usually make contact, it's just to scare, but sometimes they do. And every now and then you hear horror stories of beaks (long pointy beaks, they eat meat/ants and things) ending up in parts of people they shouldn't. Incredibly common birds too, although not all of them go bonkers. But such wonderful, smart, friendly birds you just have to deal while they go silly for 3 months.
That is good to know, I will tell them I was acting like I was from Australia, but then they will probably want to go there :-) I want to go there ;-) someday I guess!I do believe the birds were protecting their nest, so I will forgive them, but it was very scary to me :-)
It is raining here! We need it we are in a drought :-( I didn't watch the Academy Awards, did it rain on the red carpet? I guess they're still on but I'm really not interested.:-) Just was wondering if it rained on them, with those beautiful dresses! The rain usually hits that area before it comes here, I'll have to do some investigating ;-)
I missed my chance to see my Foo Fighters the last time they were somewhat close to my area. And this fall they are touring in Washington state in September and I will most likely not be able to make the concert either.... waaaaaaaaahhhhh I've seen them 4 times, but it's never enough!!! haha
Stephanie, that is amazing about the bat on your porch!!!
I have never seen one in real life and I agree, they are adorable in the video and photos, but...in real life?...I'm sure I'd do the screeching high pitched scream too...especially if their wing span is 1m!!! Yikes.
Well I'm glad they have umbrella helpers ;-)I may turn it on in a bit, the thing is I don't think I've seen any of the movies that were nominated, and it is just so very long! I do like watching Fashion Police, however, after the red carpet
I just have it on as background noise.Poignant moment was when Tim McGraw sang the song Glen Campbell wrote to his wife when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
We had a bat get trapped inside our screen porch after rescreening. Back in small co-operative housing years. A housemate quickly constructed a clever net with a coat hanger and pillow case. He bravely caught the bat and released it.
I would have been too afraid because of all the cautions I've heard about not handling lone animals due to potential rabies exposure. Major hero points assigned to housemate : )
Rusalka wrote: "Travis of NNY wrote: "So sick of working in the cold. My absolute favorite band of all time Godsmack is touring all over Australia right now. If I didn't have to work evert day I would so be trav..."Marilyn Manson too but all the weirdos show up at his shows
When I hear Godsmack's Voodoo, I start totally Jonesing for a cig. This was a popular song back when I was trying to shake the nicotine monkey.
A more than 7 minute showerLaws of Attraction
Transcendental meditation
I have written these all down! I will have to do some research on a couple of those.
Thanks guys! :)
Last summer one evening we had the door to the balcony open but we were sitting inside. All of a sudden an animal flew in (that never happens!) and I was yelling 'Rob! Rob! A bird!' He then informed me that it was a bat. I was out of the room so fast! Rob just quietly remained on the couch until the bat found its way out again, and then called me to say it was safe to come back. I'm not good with flying creatures. Showers help me too when I get grumpy!
Rob also got attacked by a magpie once.
I'd love to travel to another country to see a band. Very envious of you Peggy. Friends of ours from Austria came to visit last year and we went to see Therapy? (well I didn't I the end as I was really ill). A festival in Australia sounds amazing but I'm not sure sleeping in a tent in that heat is appealing. At least there wouldn't be the mud like here at Glastonbury. I like Marilyn Manson and I'm not a weirdo. Promise.I'm starting to think that Weather needs it's own thread we talk about it so much. I though moaning about the weather was a British thing
I thought it was a Dutch thing! :DAt Dutch festivals (and I presume English too) we encounter all kinds of weather really. I've been to festivals where we were in rain and mud for 3 days, but also festivals were it was sunny and over 32C every day (and the forecast said 20-25 and regular rainfall, so no one was prepared and there was a lot of sunburn!). Both extremes are not very fun ;-) The last festival I went to was very warm as well, but with some severe thunder storms. On the last day, they actually stopped the whole festival for two hours, because there was this supercell thunderstorm coming right over the festival. We all had to sit down on the ground, stay away from large constructions and away from the stage (it was at the end of the day, right before Metallica started playing) and I felt so sad for all the Metallica fans who had been standing in front of the main stage all day just to be in the front for Metallica, and then that area had to be vacated too. Boyfriend thought it was all very exciting, I thought it was extremely scary. Couldn't help but be reminded of the Pukkelpop incident some years ago.
I'm off swimming soon (not in the canal). the first time since last year in Croatia. I love swimming but for some reason I never make time to go to the pool when I'm here. thought I'd check out the one in the town I'm moored in at the moment. I'm in this cute little town called Bradford-on-Avon - it's a great example of an old English village.
