Yes, that's the plan Peggy. I'm not sure exactly when I will pick it up but hopefully it will be sometime in the next couple of months. Also, I'm not sure whether to re-read Outlander first or just jump straight into Dragonfly in Amber. The tv series has jogged my memory of the first book quite a bit but I'm sure there is still loads I have forgotten.

I agree, the 5th book is a doorstep! They seem to get thicker and thicker as the series goes on! Hopefully it will be a fairly quick read for you once you get into it :)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I think you can go ahead without rereading. I think important things are explained in the second book if necessary, and if you really have something that's unclear there's so much to find about the series on the internet that you can probably google your answer in a few minutes :)

That's good to hear Peggy. Thanks for the advice! :)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I agree with Peggy. I think you can go on without re-reading the first one. I am starting the 4th book over. I started at the end of last year and never got back to it. It is going to be my audio book - when I have no other series book going on. I am not using it for a specific series level, because it is too long.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Thank you Cherie! :) I am not going to use the series for the serial killer challenge either because I doubt I will get through all the remaining books this year.

message 359: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Same here. Although with 4 books and 8 months to go, who knows what will happen. Maybe I can end the challenge with a bang ;-)

If you have a shorter series and need extra points to get to the 100 requirement, you can use them as "orphan" books.

They are too long to get through for a single level and I have too many other books to mow down. I can listen to this one series outside of the challenge. If it comes down to the last one before the end of the year, they will still count as having been read. I am in no hurry to finish Jamie and Claire off. ☺

Oh yes, I forgot about that. I may well end up doing that as I think there will be a few occasions when I need to read an orphan book to reach 100 points.

Mariab | 3059 comments @Lisa and Peggy. I'm also undecided about re-reading The Fiery Cross before continue the Serie. Umphf...

Isn't one book around 1500 pages? Yikes. I knew there was a reason I didn't read past book 1. I now have it on audiobook for a re-read.

If I was going to read the whole series for the challenge, I'd probably read one book per level as "orphan books" and then kill off one level when reading the last book. But it would likely take me all year to do it. Strategy.

Janice (jamasc) | 60103 comments Mariab wrote: "@Lisa and Peggy. I'm also undecided about re-reading The Fiery Cross before continue the Serie. Umphf..."

That would be the one that's around 1500 pages. That's insane! The audiobook is 55.5 hours long.

message 366: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's my strategy too Janice :) Although in the time I read the 1500 page book, I could also start and finish a 3, 4 or 5 book series and get up to 75 points instead of 5, so I'm not convinced it's the best strategy ;-)

message 367: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60103 comments That 1500 pages is off-putting. I may just read Outlander and call it done - again (like I did after the first time I read it). I'm kind of in chunkster hell right now. I think last year's challenge just whet my appetite and every book I pick up seems to a long one. Here we are, mid-April, and I've barely crossed any of my planned books off my list.

No calculations or whatsoever for points.

You can do that too. I've read several series books and not counted them for the challenge. Some were read during a level for which I didn't need points, so I didn't bother counting them. Some were monthly challenge books, like the one I'm currently reading, and therefore doesn't qualify for points in the serial killer challenge. Ultimately, it's my mood that drives what I read or don't read.

Hehehe - for a second there, I thought you were claiming one of the mods as your own personal slave driver, but then realized it was a typo for "mood".

No on kindle. Not sure if audiobook has a release date or not. I need to read book 3 still but now I know another one will be out this year I will get to it sooner.

message 392: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Will do Mariab. It's apparently being turned in to a film. Since buying it, I'm thinking perhaps I shouldn't have bothered which is not a good sign. I've not started it but now reading the synopsis again it doesn't sound entirely plausible. I guess I'll find out. Plus some mixed reviews but then even classics have mixed reviews.

message 394: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60103 comments I picked up Nightmare House for .99 on iBooks this morning. I have yet to read any on Douglas Clegg's books, but I am intrigued.

I also got The Secret Place by using a credit of Audible. This series seems to be a hit or miss on Audible. They come and go according to publisher's whims, or so it seems. I bought Faithful Place a couple years ago on Audible, and it's no longer available to Canadians. I decided I'd better snatch The Secret Place up before they pull it out. Unfortunately, The Secret Place isn't narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds like Faithful Place was, and yet it's the same character - Frank. :(

Thanks Neenee. It is a really nice collection of books, I would have bought more given the chance ;) Plus they are only 80p each here in the UK.

Sarah | 18550 comments Feeling very indecisive at the moment. I returned the two books I bought at the beginning of the week. They were bought more on a whim and one hadn't even been on my wishlist. Instead, I've bought Lexicon. I feel like I need some retail therapy so went on to spend a bit of money but other than Lexicon, I don't decide on what other ones I want so I'm going to leave it there for now.
