Sarah | 18550 comments I bought 20th Century Ghosts after my recent success with short stories. I also received a couple books on netgalley Slow Bullets and Wayward.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments After there had been no pre order or any sign of its existence I did my weekly search at audible for The Skull Throneand there it was available now to purchase. So I did.

Hmmm, you might have to tell what he has to say about the scuba diving thing. Must have been nitrogen narcosis induced would be my guess...☺

I am pleased it is now available. Now this one is in sight I might read book 3 soon.

message 306: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm tempted to pre-order Armada after loving Ready Player One but it's not out until July anyway. I might hold off on preordering for now.

message 307: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments A friend is cleaning out her house, and she asked if I wanted her copy of The Mists of Avalon. Sure! Don't think I'll read it anytime soon though, I would like to get my other superchunky series (Outlander) out of the way first.

Ha, I got it too! I have had this on on my TBR list forever. Thanks for bringing it up, Mariab.

Glad to help!

message 314: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Apr 04, 2015 12:28AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19222 comments I toddled off to the Bookshop today. I bought:

Fire: A World of Flavor
Matter
A Guide to the Birds of East Africa. Nicholas Drayson
The Messenger of Athens
Aunty Lee's Delights
Jar City
Faceless Killers
Tooth and Nail
Rivers of London
Moon Over Soho
Whispers Underground
Out
Guilty Pleasures
Mistress of the Art of Death

He had a deal on today that if you mentioned a code word you got a $50 voucher for the next time you go. He wrote mine out without asking my name, and got my name and spelling correct. I looked puzzled and the response was "When your book dealer knows your full name, some may say you have a problem" with a wink.

I love my bookshop.

message 315: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol Rusalka. I remember you writing another fun story about your bookshop a while (maybe even over a year) ago, no idea anymore what it was though.

message 316: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments nice haul. For some reason I thought you'd read Jar City Rusalka. Where we used to live, the local Indian takeaway recognised my voice when I rang up to order as well as my name.

message 317: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I bought a couple books yesterday. I'll post later when I can link.

I think that was the day he wouldn't let me leave until I took The Lies of Locke Lamora with me.

Our Indian is the same. And the small takeaway shop we go to, but they are next door to where my Dad used to live, so at least I've been going there for 20 years.

Not yet. I have wanted to for a while. It's one of the ones where they have translated all out of order, but I've been waiting for ages, I just had to go for it.

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4069 comments I love your bookshop, Rusalka. So cool!

message 321: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19222 comments While I was there about 5 piles of books collapsed or got knocked over. There was a shout of "Don't worry about the piles of books people! They are there to impose a sense of danger, so then it releases your endorphins and then you buy more books!"

message 322: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4069 comments Hahahha that guy sure is funny!

message 323: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19338 comments I just bought Talon Talon (Talon, #1) by Julie Kagawa . It is the Audible daily deal.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11316 comments Such a nice place, Rusalka!

message 325: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That's so funny, Rusalka!

Mariab | 3059 comments @Rusalka.
I m in love with your bookdealer already...

message 327: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60103 comments I love your stories, Rusalka. Your bookseller sounds like he's a quirky guy, and I like quirky.

Are you reading mysteries around the world? I sense a theme.

Janice (jamasc) | 60103 comments Kristie wrote: "I just bought Talon Talon (Talon, #1) by Julie Kagawa. It is the Audible daily deal."

I was tempted, so I was. Still tempted, so I am.

message 329: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60103 comments I went shopping at Audible today. They aren't quite as much fun as Rusalka's bookseller, and their coupon isn't as good. Still $10 is $10 and I purchased 2 towards the 4 required to earn it.

Wolves of the Calla (I'll give George Guidall at try.)
Deadline

I must shore up those series so I can kill them off.

message 330: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I bought The Three-Body Problem for a bit of non-series sci-fi. And Assassin's Quest to complete the trilogy (although I've not read book 2 yet)

Not an intentional one. There were too many people in the shop (great for him, not for me) so I couldn't get a good crawl down some of the other sections. And I wanted the second Dublin Murder Squad book, so I was trawling the crime shelves pretty intensely. Then I realised I had run out of room to carry anything else...

message 332: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I bought InterWorld which is a Neil Gaiman book but I think it's co-authored and doesn't have a very high star rating but thought I'd check it out. I also bought Old Man's War by John Scalzi as it was only 99p.

message 333: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I joined this facebook group where you can buy or sell books to people all across the country. Someone just put a list online with 600 books, all 1 euro each!

I got The Hobbit (which I've read but would be nice to own) and Girl with the Pearl Earring.

Also got 8 or so I think bf would like.

Girl with the Pearl Earring also gave one of the most beautiful (visual) movies ever. Almost each picture is like a painting from Vermeer

I'm also absolutely jealous of you FB group

message 337: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes that FB group sounds fantastic (but dangerous) ;-)

message 338: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments So excited! My pre-order for The Skull Throne has just been delivered to my kindle. My version has a man on it - he has a fiddle so I'm guessing it's Rojer. He's foxier than I had imagined him ;-)

message 339: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments The Skull Throne (Demon Cycle, #4) by Peter V. Brett this is cover I have. Must be the dude version

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19222 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "[bookcover]this is cover I have. Must be the dude version"

*snort*. I believe there are two versions, one with a guy or a girl on the cover. I wonder if it is just luck which you get or if they are giving out one or the other based on your gender (or their idea of it) and that then leads to all kinds of assumptions...

message 341: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Or country release or kindle versus audio.

message 342: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19222 comments There are both covers as hardbacks though. The Skull Throne (The Demon Cycle, #4) by Peter V. Brett is the one you've got Sarah?

Sarah | 18550 comments Oops. our posts crossed.

message 346: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well I don't know reason other than I eould bet country it is released. But I love my cover character my poor brain can't recall but I think its Arlens woman demon fighter is too foxier than I had imagined

message 347: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes I thought it was Arlen's girl but I can't remember for the life of me what she's called.

message 348: by Cherie (last edited Apr 09, 2015 04:39PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I picked up a couple of used books off the Library Sale shelf yesterday. Two of them were on my TBR list, but the third is a new series for me. sigh.
I bought Major Pettigrew's Last Stand (I love this cover), Shopgirl - wanted to read for a long time, and Murphy's Law - which is an autographed copy and the first of fifteen in the Molly Murphy Series.

message 350: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60103 comments Audible is my downfall. Enticed by the Buy 4, Get $10 sale combined with the 50% Spring Cleaning Sale, I picked up Song of Susannah and The Dark Tower. I think I've already listed the other two books I had purchased when this sale began. When I went to look at the books in my Audible library, I was greeting by a "Surprise $4.95 Sale". I picked up Pretty When She Dies. *sigh* I'm buying faster than I'm reading.
