Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Nice Lisa!

I went to a used goods store this afternoon to drop off some old clothes, and I had a look at their book selection. They had a few English ones, and I took The Lieutenant and The Hero of Ages home. The Hero of Ages is actually book 3 in the Mistborn Trilogy, which I have on my tbr, but I don't own the first two books. I guess there's nothing to do except buy those too ;-)

Bella, there is a tv series currently airing here in the UK which is based on the books. It started last week and the first episode was great so now I am interested in reading the books too. They are meant to very good from what I've heard.

Here is a link to a picture from the series. The dark, brooding Cornish scenery is quite something! ;)

Hehe, they tend to be the books that I really did not enjoy so I'm not sure if I would want to inflict them on you ;)

message 258: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments Looks like PBS Masterpiece will be airing the series in the US sometime this year. The show is called Poldark and here is the Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poldark_...

I had to look it up as that picture was so intriguing!

Not those books, lol! I meant the books that you just bought. When you're done with them, I'll take them, except for To Kill a Mockingbird. I already have that one.

He has a few of my old copies, but so far he thinks they are a little too scary.

Whoops! Brain not in gear! Lol. If I lived in the US I would happily send them to you Janice. Except I would then have to buy other copies for myself ;)

message 265: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments Even if you lived in the States, it would be too costly to mail to Canada. I borrowed a book from someone and the postage was more than the book.

message 266: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments I bet it would be cheaper for you to send them all the way from the UK than it would be for me to send them from 1 province over in the same country! :)

Sarah | 18550 comments I just bought The Likeness by Tana French which is book 2 in the Dublin Murder Squad series. Loved the first one so I couldn't resist. Different POV this time too by the looks of it.

The first three books of the series are loosely connected, and are told in a different detective's POV. I don't know about the 4th and 5th. I shall find out.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments https://mobile.audible.com/Most-Wante...

Some pretty good titles even though only about 100 book selection. Eyed a handful of them

message 272: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Actually not sure how many titles are available. There is a glitch with the audible sale. Page 1 is the sale but the next pages are the sale which ended february 7. I know there are more pages than 1 because my email said I had wish list books in yhe sale. Yet the books they show me aren't on page 1. Sale ends march 23 so pkenty of time for audible to unglitch.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19222 comments Lol definitely not the Finders Keepers I was expecting in that link. I was thinking, Travis doesn't usually read kids/YA books, let alone Aussie 90s ones.

Excuse me as I go off on a nostalgia trip now...

I've stuck 3 books into my shopping cart to decide on later. There's a few more I'm interested in.

My pages seem to display correctly. But when I click on individual genres listings, there seem to be some titles missing. I'm going to pull up the "all" listing later today.

message 280: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments that's annoying about the preorder for skull throne on audio. fingers crossed they'll sort it out soon.

Travis doesn't, but I do. Too bad there are only two books in the series. I wonder if I can find copies?

message 282: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I purchased a few books on Amazon today for my kindle because they were free :)
Stolen in Paradise by Toby Neal
The Warrior by Joyce Swann

message 283: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I pre ordered A Place Called Winter A Place Called Winter by Patrick Gale which goes on sale next week here in the UK.

message 284: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments You mentioning "pre-order" made me think of my upcoming holiday. There's a book being released on May 7th and I made a plan to go shopping and pick it up on that day. I'll be on holidays and I even arranged the shopping expedition with my dad. Do you think I can remember the name of the book? Sheesh! I'm losing it.

message 285: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments I couldn't stand it. I had to go find out which book - A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson. It's the sequel to Life After Life, and we talked about doing a buddy read.

message 286: by Lisa (last edited Mar 20, 2015 12:46PM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Lol Janice. Don't worry, that often happens to me. I will probably forget that I pre ordered 'A Place Called Winter' and then wonder what on earth it is when it arrives!

'A God in Ruins' sounds really good. I haven't read Life After Life yet, despite the fact I have had my eye on it for ages. I have just added it to my wishlist as I just realised that it wasn't on there.

message 287: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who does things like that. One of my clients' employees emailed me today about something coming up in a few weeks. She said she was informing me now in case she forget. I replied and told her she was really taking a chance that I wouldn't forget. It's a hit or a miss what enters my memory cache and sticks because it's full to overflowing.

So glad you mentioned this! I went and put a hold on it at the library. They have ordered copies, pre-ordered I guess, so hopefully I'm not too far down on the list.

message 297: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I promised myself I wouldn't buy any dead tree books after getting rid of mine when we moved on to the boat. But as I finished one of the ones I kept this week (and it was a chunkster) I thought I'd buy another one. And it is a small one after all. I bought Pump Six and Other Stories. I know it's a book of short stories and I don't get on well with them but I really like the author so fingers crossed it doesn't let me down. Two of the stories are set in the same world as The Windup Girl.

Samantha A I'm on a bit of a budget since we are driving to Florida next week and I plan on stopping at some bookstores on the way there, so my trips to the bookstore have been scarce. I did go today though.

The Magicians by Lev Grossman (paperback)
The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith (hardcover)(I don't own the first one, but I couldn't pass this one up for a dollar)
We're All In This Together: A Novella and Stories by Owen King (paperback)
It by Stephen King (mm paperback)(I have multiple copies of this)
Looking for Alaska by John Green (paperback)(This is my second copy but I loved this book so I wanted a second copy to lend out)
