Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments There's a book fair right across from work and I just went there. I got

The Paris Wife
22 Britannia Road
The Promise (edit: oh shoot, I now see this is second in a series)
The Nightingale

If they would have had all the Dutch translations also in the original versions, I wouldn't have been able to carry it all home.

Kristie | 19339 comments Oh, I love finding book fairs, Peggy. The Nightingale was fabulous. Hope you love it

Audible is having a $4.95 sale. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Hehe, I know! I hadn't actually heard of it until I saw you haul it and being nosy like I am, I just had to go and check it out ;) It sounds really good so I'm looking forward to reading it.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11316 comments Isn't it nominated for the GR awards? It could fit the Dec. challenge.

message 1062: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Is it? I thought it was older but I could be wrong. I'm going to check it out. I wasn't planning on doing the challenge because I didn't plan on buying any of the books, but if this one fits I might!

message 1063: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You're right Sandra, it is! That's great :) I hope I can find time to fit it in.

message 1064: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11316 comments Great! That was lucky!

message 1065: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments I used a credit at Audible and got Winter. I also picked up one of the books on their current sale, Shadow and Bone.

Kristie | 19339 comments I'm struggling with the current Audible sale. I want to pick up a few books, but my list is way too long. Has anyone read any of the following books and want to give a recommendation?

Wintergirls
The Edge of Never
The Flight of Gemma Hardy
The Time Between
The Good Father
Stay Close
The Glass Kitchen: A Novel of Sisters
Secrets She Left Behind
The Ice Queen
Dark Witch
Keeper of the Light
Open Season
The 9th Girl
The Magician's Lie

I really enjoyed this one Janice. I hope you do too!

message 1072: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments Your rating was one of the factors in my purchase, Lisa. :)

message 1074: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11316 comments No, Kristie, I didn't read any of them.

message 1075: by Lisa (last edited Nov 28, 2015 08:14AM) (new)

Florence and Giles Florence and Giles by John Harding

The Girl Who Couldn’t Read The Girl Who Couldn’t Read by John Harding

His Dark Materials His Dark Materials (His Dark Materials, #1-3) by Philip Pullman

Now I am on a book buying ban until Christmas.

Kristie | 19339 comments Thanks for looking, Sandra. :)

message 1077: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Do you think you can stick to your ban Lisa? ;-)

Kristie, I enjoyed The Magician's Lie but it's the only one I read from the list so don't know if others are better..

message 1078: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19339 comments Thanks, Peggy.

Thanks, Cherie. I think I'm just going to reread the summaries, listen to the samples, and pick whatever sounds good. :)

The sound bytes are what usually get me to purchase or listen to an audio book. Good luck! I should check out my wish list. My daughter said we are going to have to use a credit or loose it and it is my turn to pick. She got the last one. ^-^

message 1084: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I just bought The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine at Costco this afternoon. Another to add to my list of orphan books for series already killed this year.

message 1085: by Lisa (last edited Dec 01, 2015 04:53AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Well, that lasted a long time! I broke my three day old book buying ban by picking up two kindle books:

The Winter People The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon

A Cavern of Black Ice A Cavern of Black Ice (Sword of Shadows, #1) by J.V. Jones

Now let's see if I can get through to Christmas without buying anything else...

message 1086: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11316 comments :) Well... two books is not so much... let's say is just a bump in the ban.

message 1087: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol Lisa :D

message 1088: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I bought 3 books yesterday. Should look at see what they were

message 1089: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments I nabbed one more from Audible's sale - Son of the Shadows. It's book two in the series and I haven't read book one yet. I figured $5.00 was worth the risk.

message 1090: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Not a new purchase but a pre-order. Joe Hill's new book The Fireman is out in May 2016! Exciting.

message 1091: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60109 comments That is exciting, Sarah! Woot!

message 1092: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments it's about time too.

message 1093: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I got The Last Kingdom for free because I'd bought something else. It will be my first Bernard Cornwell book.

message 1094: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Another addition to my kindle with Watchers as it was only 99p.

message 1095: by [deleted user] (new)

I found a nice hard cover copy of Midnight In The Garden Of Good and Evil at Goodwill for $2 :)

message 1096: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I bought Jurassic Park

message 1097: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yay! I'm looking forward to the buddy read. There might be a lot of us reading this book. It's the perfect book for the challenge.

message 1098: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's not like I don't have more than enough books that I haven't read yet lying around, but with my eye on next year's challenge I ordered The BFG (which will be a re-read) and In a Sunburned Country. Not for the challenge but for no reason at all I also got Moloka'i.

message 1099: by Lisa (last edited Dec 08, 2015 05:40AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I seriously cannot do book buying bans! I have just picked up four books, all by the same author. They should also work for next year's challenge in case I want to swap some of my planned books out.

The Greatest Knight The Greatest Knight (William Marshal, #2) by Elizabeth Chadwick

The Scarlet Lion The Scarlet Lion (William Marshal, #3) by Elizabeth Chadwick

The Summer Queen The Summer Queen (Eleanor of Aquitane, #1) by Elizabeth Chadwick

Lady of the English Lady of the English by Elizabeth Chadwick

Kristie | 19339 comments Peggy - I'm planning to read Moloka'i for the yearly challenge next year for the 'set in Hawaii' task.
