New Purchases - 2015
Funny you should mention massage as I was thinking earlier that I might book myself in for a facial at the spa on Friday. Hope you enjoy your massage.
Enjoy your massage Janice!Sarah, a bit of bookish retail therapy always does the trick, I find. I hope tomorrow is better for you both.
Sarah wrote: "Had a bad day today so felt some retail therapy would help. I bought Whispers Underground, Iron Kissed, and The Peripheral."Sorry about your bad day Sarah! Retail therapy sounds good though.
Janice wrote: "The massage was great! It was just what I needed. I'm all loosey goosey now."Awww, I'd love a massage, haven't had one in ages! I especially like those where they use either hot stones or those herbal pouches when massaging. Glad you enjoyed it Janice!
Lisa,I cannot tell from the story lines if you have to meet Lord John Grey in the Outlander series first or not. I wonder if reading about him in his series before finding him in the Outlander series would make a difference about how he comes across when we know him first in Outlander.
Might have to look up what DG says about it.
I want to get back to Outlander, but knowing how long the next book (Firefly) is just kills my desire to wade through it compared to my Serial Challenge mania.
Also just bought The Way of Kings as it was reduced. I've been trying not to by any more Sanderson until I finish the Mistborn series I have but I couldn't pass the low priced book up. I also pre-ordered Skin Deep.

I have heard people say you can read the 'Lord John 'series anytime but I read on DG's website that she recommends reading them after Voyager because they take place during the time frame covered in that book. So I will probably do that.
I just got To Kill a Mockingbird I didn't read anythig about it !! Its just the book kept popping into my face all the time .. So I to finally decided to pick it up !

It's a brilliant book CFDeeDee! I read it during the toppler (after putting it off for years) and I loved it. Enjoy!
I did a bit of online shopping. I decided to use my last credit on audible and got The Magicians. When I clicked on my library, I was offered a selection of books priced at $4.95 and I got Blood Work.
Then amazon.ca's daily deal had The Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy on sale at $1.99 each. I already had the first book, so I got Days of Blood & Starlight and Dreams of Gods & Monsters.
Thanks Sarah.I was on hold for the ebook of The Magicians, but I was still 3rd in line. Yesterday, I got an email from Audible about past summer favourites and this came up so decided to get it. I'll start it probably tomorrow so that I can get in on the group read.
I was getting a bit concerned about the growing number of books that I've purchased. But the other day it occurred to me that my retirement is covered. LOL!
I bought Second Grave on the Left and Angelfall as they were both pretty cheap on kindle. I've seen mixed reviews on both of them but on the whole most people found them enjoyable so I thought what the hell. They're both quite short so they can go in my future-toppler basket.
Sounds like The Magicians is popular at your library then. Glad you'll be joining in the discussion. I agree about the increasing number of books which find their way in to our possession. But I don't seem to be able to stop.
I bought On Their Own: What Happens to Kids When They Age Out of the Foster Care System by Martha Shirk and The Wisdom of Whores: Bureaucrats, Brothels, and the Business of AIDS by Elizabeth Pisani from BetterWorld Books.
So what did I do, but buy two more books. They're cheap like borscht, so no huge investment. I got Drake of Tanith and Queen of Abaddon. I may read them for Level 7 in my killing challenge.
Just ordered Big Trouble: A Murder in a Small Western Town Sets off a Struggle for the Soul of America by J. Anthony Lukas. I had to get it now because it was the last copy available for under $5. I also ordered Making the Second Ghetto: Race and Housing in Chicago 1940-1960 by Arnold R. Hirsch, again, I was forced to order it as all the other copies were $18+ and I got mine for $4.48. So, I refuse to think of this as spending money and instead I'm looking at this as saving over $15 today. I'm sure everyone here will agree with my reasoning on this.
Cheap like borscht sounds logical to me too, Janice. Magic is always good. I will be waiting to hear if they were worth it. :0)
I just bought Die Again
from the Audible daily deal. I hope there isn't too much that I miss because it is #11 in a series and I haven't read any of the others. I'm hoping that it's enough of a standalone mystery.
Well, since everyone is in agreement that I saved $15+, then it only makes sense that I should now spend that money on more books. (Where I may save more money, so I can buy even more.)
I just orderedThe Shadow of the Wind
The Angel's Game
The Prisoner of Heaven
Guess which series I'm starting next? ;-)
I also got Baby Booties and Slippers: 30 Designs to Stitch, Knit and Crochet as a gift for a friend who loves shoes, crochet, and just told me she's pregnant.
Hm I don't remember a buddy read of the books. Maybe it was before I was a member, or I must have just completely missed it ;-)
Peggy wrote: "Hm I don't remember a buddy read of the books. Maybe it was before I was a member, or I must have just completely missed it ;-)"Here are the threads for them:
Shadow of the Wind - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The Angel's Game - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Prisoner of Heaven - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I read the first two but I haven't read the third yet.
With all the money I saved, I bought more books. Defying Dixie: The Radical Roots of Civil Rights: 1919-1950 by Glenda Elizabeth Gilmore
Arc of Justice: A Saga of Race, Civil Rights, and Murder in the Jazz Age by Kevin Boyle
The Graves Are Not Yet Full by Bill Berkeley
Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement by John Robert Lewis
Virus Hunter: Thirty Years of Battling Hot Viruses Around the World by C.J. Peters
The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter by Katherine Anne Porter- won the Pulitzer
The Invisible Cure: Africa, the West, and the Fight Against AIDS by Helen Epstein
Peggy wrote: "Thanks for the links Sarah :) I was a member, no idea why I didn't join you back then.."I think we set up the buddy read as a number of us had chosen to read The Shadow of the Wind for the monthly task which had to be set in a library.
Peggy wrote: "Guess which series I'm starting next? ;-)"I expect to read this series this year too, but I wanted to read it in Spanish (the original) but they were pretty expensive. Last time I checked, there weren't e-books of those one, and the 3 paperback were around $50. I'll have to check again.
Peggy wrote: "Guess which series I'm starting next? ;-)..."I am still trying to get to the second one. I hope you love the first one, Peggy!
Sarah wrote: "Some interesting reads there Bella. Did you save on those books too?"Not very much, but I've been wanting some of those books for a while. And I need vacation books. We don't go for, like, three more weeks or so, but I'm already planning/obsessing about what I'm going to take.
That's one of the advantages of an ereader. You can take a whole library and just have the weight of one physical book.I do tend to stress about audiobooks because I don't have them all downloaded. I only download one or two at a time.

I have a few ereaders, but we're going to the beach and to Knott's Berry Farm (for the water rides) and I don't want to take them to those places. So, I need lots and lots of real books. I'll probably bring about 15-20.
What kind of ereader do you have? I have a Nook, so I have a 64GB memory card installed so I have plenty of storage space.

I like that kind of therapy! I've had a bad day as well and I'm off to have a massage. Maybe I should stop by a bookstore on my way home.
