As for me, I have started so many books, I would like to actually finish them! I have a problem with starting a book, then getting interested in another one, and so on. Now I have quite a few on my 'to finish someday' shelf.
Heather : "As for me, I have started so many books, I would like to actually finish them! I have a problem with starting a book, then getting interested in another one, and so on. I concure, with Heather, and perhaps I might add, that some discipline, and a relative ' ease of mind' , is needed to necessitate, a speedy reading.
Also , a good choice of books, and regardless if it's a fiction, or a non fiction set up, a certain talent from the part of the writer that will make the reading enjoyable, or at least help U in reaching out his 'focal points' by adressing the subject in a [personal way]. By that I mean, avoiding the academic dry writing..
Hey Heather, show us that shelf of yours.. will ya?
You're right, Dan. The eloquence and structure of the author is one thing that keeps me captivated. I have started all of these books and just now looking through them, I see a few I might just want to take off the shelf with no more interest in reading it.Here is my shelf, a bit eclectic!

[correction- these are some of yer books, that I urge U to 'go on' with them, to the better end]the first 3, simply on a hunch.. the title is so catchy

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... [ Ι thnk it was in this group, where I read lots of good things about this book, but as far as i recall it's too damn long]
My advice leve 'Foucalt's pendulum' aside, and try the 'history of beuty' instead [I could direct U to one of Moore's GN, that deals with the same 'fictional worlds' in a more tidy and accessible manner, if U wanna]
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9... [ also this one, I've erad in Military historyabout her, and I wanna knowm ore, ha ha regardless of Miller's fictional portrayal]
Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain
Sacks, Oliver [ I know from varios Reviews, that this one is a must]
and well I simply luv Ken Follet, I urge U to find the time, to finisht teh 2nd installment of eorld without borders' [ it proved way too difficult for me to find that one.. and the purchase from the deleted [Bell series] the first overpriced.so far I've only seen the series on BBC.
Too many books about the subconscious mind... and well, I am trying to cut through the 'fictionalised books' straight to the heart of the matter, with the 3 tome series, on neurology, but given time, I would like to see some of yer books in my own TBR list. [ feel free to propose anythin that suits yer fancy] .. in any case, I will return my tomoe in 3-4 days to the lcl library..
Heather, taking a brief look at the books you've put back on the shelf, I would say that you have much that you think you "should" read waiting for a better day. Why don't you go with something you actually want to read? Something you would really enjoy? I tend to read one book at a time. If the book is slow going, perhaps not well written but has something to offer me, I plod on. If I find it too tough going or not worth my while, I either put it back on the shelf for some other day or more likely, put it in my giveaway pile. Life is too short and there are lots of good books out there.
Having said that, I am currently rereading a biography of Colette that I read a few years ago. There is no problem with this as I tend to forget what I read! But this time I'm thinking of reading a little and putting the book aside to read whatever novel of Colette has been discussed in the biography. Then I'll get back to the biography, etc. I have most of Colette's books that have been translated into English (and have read them all one or more times), so this will be easy enough to do, although it will take a while. It's my own self-designed "Colette" course.
Interesting, Dvora. I agree with you, I think I'm going to disregard some of my books altogether and focus on the ones that really keep my attention and/or I am learning from. I tend to read several books at a time. I think for this year, I'm going to focus on one book at a time and make sure it is a good one for me.I like your "Colette course" idea. I wish you Happy Reading! :-)
Lee Krasner: A BiographyI am also reading the Border Trilogy books by Cormac McCarthy.
I'm almost finished with Capital in the Twenty-First Century
And a lot of other books....

Hello, not sure if this is the right place to post. I'm seeking recommendations on works about Rodin. Bio or otherwise. Your thoughts?
