Irene | 651 comments Finished and came to really love this book. It took me until the final part before I began to see below the surface of the story to a deeper meaning. When that happened, it really became "amazing" for me.

When the Golem was referenced toward the end, I realized that it had deeper significance than just a means of Joe's escape. Does anyone understand this symbol?

Thought the character development was terrific. Felt as if I really knew these folks personally.

So good to see that someone made it to the end of this one! I didn't embark on it, still trying to work through Middlesex!

Your comments have made me keen to read this when I get through my current to-reads. I'll be adding it to the list!

However, I do remember liking this novel. I didn't mind that it's chunkier than your regular novel. The writing is fast-paced, at least for me. And it's not just "adventures" that you read. I appreciate that historical parts are melded with comic book geekery.

My favorite part in this novel is when (view spoiler)
