We have a rough end date for Open Me Carefully coming up soon. I really found the book to be enlightening and I was a little worried at first.
Thus far we have read

5 quarters of the Orange
Open Me Carefully.

I want to be as diplomatic as possible and get what people want for a group read so I think we should try a nomination/vote system. I'm going to start the nomination period today and end it on Tuesday the 25th. At that time I'll put all the nominations in a post and let people vote for two days on what they want. The book with the most votes will be posted on Friday the 28th and we can begin reading on the 31st.
Also if your book is chosen and you want and/or are able to lead the discussion that would be great.

So....
Nominations today thru Tuesday (25th)
Voting on noms Wed-Thurs (26th/27th)
Selected book announced Fri (28th)
Start reading Mon (31st)

Jules (juliemetz) | 27 comments I nominate The Poisonwood Bible (B. Kingsolver). It's my next read as soon as it comes in at the library, and it looks great. It's quite a few years old, so everyone should be able to get it from their libraries without a problem.

hmmmm it might be a short voting period.

message 4: by Rolana (new)

Rolana | 22 comments I'm game for almost anything. Barbara Kingsolver books are wonderful! Other authors I enjoy are Elizabeth Berg, Maya Angelou, Jodi Picoult, Jennifer Weiner.
I also recommend The Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett.

Kristen | 0 comments I just started the Eyre Affair and I am surprised that I am like 0 pages in and it already has me. I find that refreshing in a book...

Elizabeth The Poisonwood Bible nomination put me in mind of the English Passengers, which is similarly written in different voices, though with a more diverse cast of characters.

apollonia (mrsquale) What are the rules for the group read? Does it have to be a certain genre of book?

message 8: by Mandy (new)

Mandy What about The Other Boleyn Girl? I want to read this one before I see it as a movie.

"The rules are there aint no rules" (sorry quote from Grease - love that movie)

We havent put any rules on it as far as genre. Most seem to like fiction over bios and the such but we just did Open Me Carefully which is poetry/biography and I thought it was a good choice.

I say nominate anything and we will just see what the majority wants and go from there.

Reminder: Ill gather up the noms at the end of today (tuesday) and post a voting thread tomorrow morning.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) how about "confessions of a pagan nun"? i can't figure out how to link it here to the goodreads info, but it sounds really good!

whenever you're on the page you want to link to, just hilight the address, copy it, then come back into the thread to post a comment and click paste in the "post a comment" area.

That was clear as mud... :(

message 14: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccabird) | 12 comments I also would love to read Water for Elephants. I want to get in on this book this time.

message 15: by Susan (new)

Susan I've been wanting to read Loving Frank by Nancy Horan - it's a semi-fictional account of Mamah Cheney's love affair with Frank Lloyd Right.

message 16: by Erika (new)

Erika How about "Harvesting the Heart" or "the Tenth Circle" by Jodi Picoult...I love her books because they always have such intersting ethical questions that can be great for discussions of different viewpoints.....
