This is what I'm Reading/going to read... - 2015
Just read Land of Enchantment, 4 stars , a moving story of three women artists . My review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....Will start Sweet Hearts and continue with the last two episodes of Ulysses.
I'm reading We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates.
Started the new year with an incredibly sad story Sweet Hearts. My review :https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....Starting Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption today.
Whoo Hoo ! Finished Ulysses after an 18 week read along. My review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Angela, that’s a real achievement! I never finished Ulysses, even though it was a class assignment and even though I loved The Odyssey. Good going for you!I liked your review, too, and am on the same page as you (so to speak) in wanting to be able simply to read a novel, not have to read all sorts of outside sources in order to be able to understand it. I’m more willing to go to that extra effort when it comes to poetry; but in fiction, I can’t help feeling that the author is being self-indulgent and show-offy when he (or occasionally she) includes all sorts of obscure references to the classics.
You might enjoy Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, which is a lot more accessible (and shorter); it’s the only Joyce novel I really liked. Or you can simply rest on your laurels!

I'm trying (again!) to get through London by Edward Rutherfurd, and I'm also reading the exquisite Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimaminda Ngozi Adichie.
Jennifer , those Rutherford books are so long ! I made it through Paris and I liked it a lot . I want to try London and New York sometime but I have to be in the mood for a tome ! I'll be interested in what you think of London.
I've tried four times to get past the first chapter! And I too really enjoyed Paris. Unfortunately, London does not appear to have been made into an audiobook, so I'm stuck with *groan* text-to-speech.

Let us know whether you like the book - I have had it on my shelf at home for a while, but I keep getting caught up in reading other books for GR discussions.

Would like to read "Paris" and I didn't know there was a "New York"!

I really loved this book Terry. Lahiri does a good job of developing the characters. The narrative goes back and forth in time, but it is never confusing. I highly recoomend it.
