ABANDONED. YA crime/mystery thriller where a cop wakes up from a coma, a team is brought together to catch a serial killer

I started reading this book some time last year or the year before and never got around to finishing it. It was set in the modern day (possibly America), with a female detective as the main character. The main plot consisted of a group of specialists being assembled to catch a serial killer. An early chapter described a policeman waking up from a coma caused by a shootout and trying to get a nurse to let him watch the news.

***Several short early chapters follow the killer as he poses as a drug dealer to get information out of some minor characters (college kids) before killing them with laced drugs. ***

I did not read far enough into the book to see this, but I believe the blurb mentioned the fact that some main characters would be killed off. I found this book in a bookstore in Ireland and I believe the author was female.

These characters were all adults?

It doesn't seem possible that this is YA. Sounds like adult fiction.
