I personally liked the book but alot of the details were off, especially the ending. Plus they made people think Simon was a vampire and that can't be because he was in the institute and it was built on holy ground. Also they made him sparkle! SPARKLE! No! How did they think they would continue the series with that ending? How would City of Ashes happen if Valentine didn't get the cup? What else does everyone think?

I have no idea what any of this means. I haven't read this story yet, but it certainly seems interesting!
Milena wrote: "Yeah, I hated the movie as well. Only the beginning was okay. It's a shame since its a really good series. They're making a TV show out of it now though so hopefully they'll get it right."Yes! I agree! I was a little disappointed on the movie to think that it's my favorite series.
I'm choosing this, too. Well, I liked the movie (maybe only because I haven't read the book yet). One of my closest friends really loves this, too, so I'm looking forward to reading this. After all of your comments, my expectation is that this book will be totally different from what I understood from its movie.
I started it today, I hope I can finish it this week since I'm also reading wuthering heights. I liked the movie, but until now the book seems much better.
The book series is much better than the movie. I also really like the "Clockwork" series by the same author.
I'm 25% in and hate that I saw the movie before reading this. I should NOT watch movies of books that I plan to read. :/ Anyway, this is how I picture Clary and Jace:

Although Lily Collins is beautiful and she fits the "short" description of Clary in the book, she doesn't really fit the other descriptions, I think.
The reading experience so far is just okay. Again, I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't see the movie first.

[edit for Jan 29] I'm done. Sort of. I skipped a lot of pages because I didn't really feel engaged with the story. Oh well. Here's my review
I thought the movie was okay and the books were interesting. I only read the first three. I tried to read the others but it felt like her heart wasn't in it and it just wasn't the same. They are making a TV show about this?!?! How did I not know that? Now I'm excited. :)
I agree that the book was WAYY better than the movie! They had to take out a lot of details in the movie. But they did a good job, since there's too many things to try to fit in a movie. So it actually makes me happy since there's gonna be a tv series. Although there's a rumor going around that they might make the characters older and the institute will be in San Francisco instead of New York
